My own version of a defender/burn modern deck based on Xagon42's "Defender Modern Deck" viewable here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/defender-modern-deck/ I have been primarily aiming for a more budgetted version, and dropping a colour is one of the easier ways to do that.

It follows largely the same process as Xagon's deck: build mana and ramp into large defender walls and begin to burn with the VentSent and Banefires.

The primary difference between ours I dropped the white, feeling it wasn't contributing enough to merit more cards than the few that there were. I'd also have used Swords instead of Path, and still am considering doing so.

I also have more of a focus on card draw and have included Browbeat as a key card, seeing it as either a 3mana draw 3 or a 3mana lava axe. Even if the opponent gets to choose, either works with me fine. Keeping the card advantage is important to keep spending the sheer amount of mana that can be produced, and keep pumping it into Devil's Plays and Banefires.

The Colossus I'm actually considering just taking out entirely, as during playtesting I'm finding he usually just sits there and is made redundant by Banefires~
