Rats and Racks - Kamigawa Discard

Casual* Discard Mono-Black Rats Theme/Gimmick

johnpants

The aim of this deck is to whittle down both the opponent's hand and their life total using rats from old and new Kamigawa.

The Rats

This deck has some of the rat classics including Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni and Marrow-Gnawer but also a suite of discard-focused rats. The most powerful discard rat is probably the Okiba-Gang Shinobi which works best when ninjutsu'd out with one of the smaller rats: Burglar Rat which will make the opponent discard again if played again and Okiba Reckoner Raid  which features an incredibly cool jacket.

The Racks

Nezumi Shortfang   has the repeatable discard ability and works like The Rack once transformed. The Rack is also actually in here so you could call this a 5Rack; would be 8 but the rat-rack is legendary. Those effects plus Raiders' Wake provide additional life loss just by doing the discard thing.

The Rast

The rast of the cards are utility / interaction. Reckoner Shakedown is the 3-mana discard sorcery from Neon Dynasty. It only discards 1 card rather than 2 like most other spells like that, but we get to pick which one rather than the opponent. Plus if there's nothing good to discard, it can buff a rat. Assassin's Ink is our removal spell. With 10 enchantments and artifact cards in the deck its cost may get reduced a good bit.

I considered Typhoid Rats as a 1-drop because the deathtouch is quasi-evasion so would make ninjutsu abilities slightly easier, but it lacks an ETB effect so it doesn't actually do much other than that. Silver-Fur Master could be really good because every creature other than Burglar Rat is a rogue or ninja but I don't know if it's worth splashing Blue for.
