totalyepic Umm I retract my previous statement seeing as how Polukranos, World Eater Stormbreath Dragon and Genesis Hydra are cards.

I've seen a few Abzan decks that are going with the "counters" theme instead of midrange/control.
Mind you, I haven't seen the counters decks do particularly well (my housemate went 3-1 during the first Khans FNM, haven't seen another one do that well though). Counters deck has a nice early game, but is outclassed in the mid-game by monsters.
I'm actually surprised that the Jeskai Tempo decks aren't running things like Spear of Heliod since they seem to have a small token subtheme with Goblin Rabblemaster and Brimaz, King of Oreskos . Triggers prowess as well shrug

Oh and yeah... monsters are still things. Add Mistcutter Hydra to that list too.
Is Hooded Hydra seeing any play yet? I have so far seen 0 played in standard since Khans was released.

WomboCombo Mistcutter Hydra isn't seeing that much play currently and Hooded Hydra isn't lol. Even so a +1/1 boost on occasion shouldn't be too relevant. I will play test and see how Polymorphist's Jest works.

There's still a 1 or 2 Mistcutter Hydra hanging around in sideboards at my LGS. Slightly annoying to see when I have Surrak Dragonclaw and Savage Knuckleblade , but at least I have Soul of Shandalar and Crater's Claws to deal with it.
Let me know how you go with Polymorphist's Jest . Seems like it has a home somewhere in this list, just need to figure out what it's good against and how many to add.

Wombo-Combo Will do. I also like the idea of being able to handle creatures with haste and evasion such as Stormbreath Dragon .

Another pro for Polymorphist's Jest I guess. That's kinda why I wanted to drop Arbor Colossus in the sideboard for Polymorphist's Jest instead since it can screw with Mantis Rider / Stormbreath Dragon / anything else relevant and flying while having other applications as well.

@bighead066, there are also other cards, Fleecemane Lion , Flame-Wreathed Phoenix and Ember Swallower . im sure theres more i just cant think of at the moment. Fleecemane Lion can become very nasty with both ajani's in standard right now. i personally prefer curse in my rug deck. just my 2 cents =]

WomboCombo I realized I forgot to up vote your deck, so I gave you your 20th up vote.

Might be going too janky, but while looking for Polymorphist's Jest I came across Polymorphous Rush . Added in to the maybeboard to mess around with.
Turning all Elvish Mystic and Sylvan Caryatid in to Stormbreath Dragon or Sagu Mauler late game seems like a really hilarious way to end a game.

+1 from me. Pretty similar to my R/U/G Munchers (Play test please!!) I haven't taken the full version to a fnm yet but in play test, and proxy games its pretty strong.

Solid looking deck (and funny deck name) Ghostfang1337! Thanks for the +1 as well.
Just wondering - in your proxy games, how has Genesis Hydra gone? I've had him in my maybeboard since I put this idea together, but haven't actually had a chance to try him out.

I typically play Genesis Hydra as a 5/5 by turn 4 to combo into a walker which has swung the game in my favor. I also like the secondary effect of shuffling the cards I didn't pick back in. I don't typically cast him at anything below 6 mana due to having most of my win con's costing 4 or 5. In a few matches against a life gain deck he's come out for 11 or more even if it was just to pop into a Xenagos, the Reveler or another creature if I already have him, then to +1 for a 16+ dmg Crater's Claws . I prefer him over See the Unwritten , because he becomes a body, and can play more then just creatures. In playtest it sucked losing a handful of walkers to that spell.

Sounds pretty awesome to me. I will need to give him a shot at some point (maybe if I can get my hands on a Nissa, Worldwaker and this deck gets more planeswalkers added).
Thanks for the info.

My standard deck came in second both gamedays i went to, and first at FNM's :DThis looks like a fun deck to run though. This is the deck actually that i beat to get firstplace. I Almost lost. Fun Times!

totalyepic What had counters that you needed to remove? I am curious. In the previous standard there was alot of things with counters but in this one I can't really think of anything that is competitive that has counters.
