M21 Update + Mutate —June 9, 2020

With the advent of M21, Rayami can now exile himself with a blood counter instead of going to the graveyard if he would die. This means creatures mutated onto Rayami will also be exiled with a blood counter. Then you can move Rayami to the command zone.

Previously, mutated creatures would be redirected to the command zone instead of into exile, so they were fairly worthless to us. With all the hexproof and indestructible creatures we're running, we have plenty of great mutate targets.

Benefits of mutating onto Rayami are increased power/toughness.

We do have to remove protection from blue, green, and black, and from multicolor.

Finally a good Rayami deck. There are a few but some people don't seem to understand aristocrats sucks with Rayami. First of the Fallen . The only thing I could think that would make this deck really good, would be The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale . There is that enchantment which does the same thing but you can never have too many outlets lol

Hey thanks, Bloodsucker1211! I didn't even know people were trying to play aristocrats with Rayami. First of the Fallen ...because Rayami stops creatures from having death triggers. I thought aristocrats tried to capitalize on those triggers with Blood Artist and the like?

I wish I still had my Tabernacle, and I think the enchantment you're thinking of is Pendrell Mists . Great suggestion, and I have that noted!

I was thinking we could take advantage of some of the morph creatures with keywords. You pay to play the creature face down, and if that creature dies while Rayami is out it'll be exiled face up with a blood counter.

PS Nice username to go with Rayami!

jasonkrivera you are correct. Aristocrats does capitalize on death. Which makes me sigh when i see people say "Blood Artist goes great with him!". Your deck is honestly great and not too bad on budget. I hadn't even thought of the interaction with morph though! Thats actually amazing! I'll be building a deck today. Mind if I net some of this list?

Bloodsucker1211 be my guest!

I added Primordial Mist and Scroll of Fate to the main. Getting those morph creatures will help save on mana costs, especially with the scroll. Then you can technically play your creatures as though they had flash (manifest + pay their cost), or you can manifest, block, and cast your face down instant spell with scroll + mist out.

If you think of anything else please let me know!

jasonkrivera so question about Primordial Mist . It says exile a face down permenant you control face up. If you do this and its an instant or sorcery what happens? Can you still play the card?

Bloodsucker1211 yes, for the duration of that entire turn, you can play that land or cast that spell at any normal time you could normally do so. Typically this is sorcery speed except for instants and cards with flash. Notice also that the face down permanent could have been placed face down by being morphed, megamorphed, manifested, or flipped face down by Ixidron or a similar effect.

jasonkrivera I ordered a few cards off your deck list. Any chance that you're gonna be building the new volrath?

Bloodsucker1211 probably not with Volrath for now, since Rayami is taking up my BUG cards currently. He looks like he could be super fun to build, so maybe I'll swap out Rayami for Volrath down the road. I supposed I'd run a bunch of clones/shapestealers or -1/-1 counter theme. Or both.

jasonkrivera I'm building him as an infect commander. The way i see it, no one wamts a poison counter. So theyll block with a creature. Eventually all their chump blockers will be gone so they'll have to block with a more important one. Thats where volrath comes in. A lot of people are building him voltron infect but that doesn't seem super fun to me. Throw in a +1/+1 counter sub theme for my creatures and it'll be a load of fun. I already had a Yawgmoth deck built around -1/-1 counters and infect so Volrath just kinda absorbed that.

jasonkrivera I also remember you saying something about more morph stuff in this. So here you go! https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&text=+[Morph]|[Vigilance]|[Trample]|[Deathtouch]|[Lifelink]|[Indestructible]|[Double]|[strike]|[First]|[strike]|[Hexproof]|[Protection]|[Reach]|[Flying]&color=|[U]|[G]|[B]+![W]+![R]

There is a list of all the morph creatures with keywords. Some good hexproof and flying. As well as trample. Just some unique stuff
