since BloodMoon will effect you as well, i'd put in 2-3 Plains so that you don't just die to your own card.

I have meant to, I just haven't got around to putting them in the deck yet...

A singleton leyline doesn't seem like a great idea to me.

It's not my most favorite thing to do but I can't drop anything else to get to 2.

If you want to keep burning your opponents, try Shock (a good one drop that deals 2 damage in an instant)

What exactly are you running if for? I don't see discard or burn being a problem for your deck and if you're struggling against burn, just run Dragon's Claw.

Singleton sideboard cards are typically rather meh and Leylines are especially terribad as singletons. It's essentially a dead draw and you won't be seeing it in your opening hands too much. You essentially have to cut it or play a few more - at the moment it is a waste of a sideboard slot.

Against Rack, if I can play Eidolon of the Great Revel turn 2 then I am in a much better position. I guess the same goes for the mirror, but that will not always happen. The single Leyline is in fact in the side for decks that target me specifically. Of course I agree that I will not see it very much but at least I have a chance of seeing it.

So I noticed something. In every matchup, when I sideboard, I am either taking out a playset of Lava Spike or Searing Blaze. That just makes me feel like there should be a different set of cards in their place, especially Searing Blaze. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The fact that you side out cards for most matchups doesn't mean they are bad at all. It just means that for most matchups, SOME cards in your sideboard are better than said cards. Which is ok because you need to sideboard out something anyway - there will always be a weakest card in your mainboard, and that card will often get cut while sideboarding. It doesn't mean that you should cut said card from your mainboard.

8rack is hardly played because the deck's not all that good. As I already explained, a singleton Leyline is hardly anything but a hinderance. If you feel like you need them, by all means run 3-4. Running a single one, however, will not accomplish much.

I'll think things over, I am not sure what I will do yet but thank you for your comments.

Side:

-2 Spellskite

-2 Path to Exile

+1 Leyline of Sanctity

+2 Wear / Tear

+1 Searing Blaze

Main:

-2 Searing Blaze

+2 Path to Exile

since you said searing blaze is a card you side out often, why not use less of it for more reliable and stronger removal (path). and i agree with what everone is saying about the leyline. it is a necessity to have more than one in the side. it is meant to be seen in your opening hand rather than topdecked later in the game. also wear/tear is a great card since most decks like to have enchantments or artifacts to get combos going or to power them through for the last points of damage. (tron, splinter twin, affinity, pod, just to name a few).

Path to Exile vs. Searing Blaze:

In my opinion, these cards are either a 4 of or a 0 of. Which means that I would not split them up 2 and 2. Path to Exile is obviously better, but I am sacrificing the damage that Searing Blaze produces if I switch it out for path.

Spellskite is almost a necessity. There are just so many things that it potentially stops.

So if I add a playset of path to main then I could add 2 Leyline of Sanctity or 2 Kor Firewalker.

A question.

Why do you play Eidolon of the Great Revel ?You effectivly burn the living shit out of yourself. I mean sure, your opponent gets burned as well, but your curve ends at 3cmc. You get 100% burned.

OhHellfireMTG says... #14

EpicFreddi Because they need to remove it or else they will die faster then you will die. Delver is a thing where the entire deck is 1-3 drops, so if they don't remove it, they will die because you're burning them.

HSF117 says... #15

EpicFreddi you are correct. The Eidolon definitely hurts me because every card that is available to me to play will trigger the ability. But my life is not the one that I am concerned about. OhHellfireMTG is also correct. Many many decks such as Delver have to deal with the Eidolon or risk losing the game. It is really is that much of a game changer.

I would suggest Soulfire Grand Master. The life gan is insane, and possibly Monastery Mentor. It produces tokens with prowess, and also triggers itself.

326 says... #17

Soulfire Grand Master and Monastery Mentor are also both painfully slow and present great targets for your opponent's removal spells. The creatures burn runs are really awkward to kill efficiently, while Grand Master and Mentor just die to any old removal spell the turn they come into play. Grand Master is also just horrible in most matchups.

HSF117 says... #18

I agree that they are good cards but to me they are just too slow. Especially in the modern format.

So is my sideboard "good"? There is no perfect sideboard but are there any cards that I am missing? I'm not sure if I like Dragon's Claw still.

For your Sideboard, I recommend Slagstorm over Anger of the Gods. Against Delve/Dredge mechanic decks, with Rest in Peace you should have to worry about the exile effect of Anger of the Gods and with Slagstorm, you can also use it for that last bit of damage you need to defeat your opponent.

February 9, 2015 9:12 p.m.

HSF117 says... #21

That's fair. I used to run Slagstorm but I guess I needed someone else to tell me to run it over Anger of the Gods to help me understand why.

Stony Silence? I know your sideboard is full and all. But I, as well as many other players, expect a rise in tron numbers. mainly red/ green tron. stoney silence is a very nice card in that matchup, especially with the Blood Moon in the side. It also helps with the affinity matchups, which also should see more play since aggro is becoming more and more of a thing now in the modern meta-game.

Cut path for 2 Shard Volley and 2 Grim Lavamancer

What queso said. Path to Exile has no place in the mainboard of a burn deck.
