I'm glad to hear you started with RDW for your first modern deck. I have always enjoyed playing RDW in modern. You should checkout my RDW decklist: Red Deck Wins

I've had it for almost a year now and I'm getting it ready for the GP in two weeks. Hopefully it will do well.

Whipflare is better than Path to Exile in the sideboard.

quesobueno123 says... #5

No, path is good and if you want a whipflare like effect use Pyroclasm, or even better Volcanic Fallout.

Path to Exile is used where Slagstorm is ineffective such as when my opponent is playing Tarmogoyf, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Wurmcoil Engine.

Just curious as to why you're not playing Grim Lavamancer. I've seen some lists play him and others don't. Personally I play him in my Naya Burn list for the late game plan.

HSF117 says... #8

Well I'm one of the lists that don't use it. I would use it if I used Shard Volley but I need the lands against Monastery Siege.

Is there any particular reason why you don't use it? I'm trying to figure out if I should keep it in my Naya Burn list. It's good to see late game, but most of the time it just dies. Then early game it's kind of dead.

Well. I don't use Grim Lavamancer because of how the current modern meta is. If most of the decks were control decks, I would definitely run it, but since there are plenty of decks that are winning by turn 4 or 5, Burn needs to keep pace but my opinion is that Grim Lavamancer is too slow.

Personally I would keep/put the Lavamancer in, this would be because it provides late game fuel for your decks if the game turns really grindy. And as a bonus, if they waste removal on it, then there isn't removal for your guide or swiftspear.

You could probably take out a Stomping grounds for a Mountain

Tyrannosary: If I had to be honest then I could probably take out 2 each of the shocks and add 2 fetches and 2 Mountains.

HSF117 says... #14

That actually might help with Searing Blaze.

With 10 fetch lands, I'd cut your shocks to 2 each and replace them with basic Mountains. Your life total will thank you in an Aggro matchup. You could also fit in 2x Grim Lavamancer to improve the main board.

I'd run 3x Molten Rain in the side, as it's a relevant card. I prefer Anger of the Gods over Slagstorm, as the exile effect is awesome against Arcbound Ravager, Elves, and Melira CoCo, Kitchen Finks. Although Slagstorm can go to the dome, which is nice. S'Kite isn't all that relevant except against Infect and Bogles. I'd replace it and Smash to Smithereens with 2x Skullcrack and 2x Forked Bolt.

Lastly, how has Deflecting Palm worked for you and in which match ups? Curious...

aeonstoremyliver: Thanks for your suggestions. Also, Deflecting Palm has been good against decks that try to use one creature to deal a lot of damage or infect in the infect deck. So I guess it's better match ups are Infect, Affinity when they use Cranial Plating, I guess Mono-Green Aggro even though it's not played very much but it can blow them out. Also you can use them against naturally large creatures such as Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, or Wurmcoil Engine. Those are just examples.

Love to see another Boros/Naya burn deck. I have been working with my sideboard for awhile, and have found some impactful cards. Kor Firewalker is better than Spellskite in the mirror matchup, something I run into a lot online. Another great card there, and also against affinity that could replace Smash to Smithereens, is Reality Hemorrhage. It can kill a non-pumped Etched Champion even when metalcrafted. Also for the board, Destructive Revelry is amazing, taking care of many burn hate cards. I recommend four.

My maindeck varies slightly, but the numbers in this type of burn are always up for debate, and yours looks plenty powerful.

The deck I keep referencing is Boro$ Burn$. If you have a minute I would love to hear what you have to say about it.

Keep burning!

ESTABAUSS: Kor Firewalker is a great card but it's double white and I'm playing 3 colors instead of just 2 so I don't really like it in my list. I'd like to keep Smash to Smithereens just because I have trouble against affinity. I'm thinking about dropping Molten Rain for 1 each of Smash to Smithereens and Destructive Revelry.

Here is the Generic Modern Burn deck:http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/generic-burnrdw/

And here is the Modern Burn Deck I play:http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/21-07-15-red-deck-wins/

Which one is better depends on the metagame, and admittedly that's about a 65/35 split with the generic burn deck in the lead. Mine is better in slower metas or very fast metas where burn is hated on a lot. It has 2 3-drops, 4 "3-drops", and a few extra 2-drops. On of the things that makes it cool is that Flame Javelin doesn't trigger Eidolon of the Great Revel, since it's technically 6 CMC.

You might want to consider adding Molten Rain back to your sideboard with the Eldrazi deck rising in popularity. I also second ESTABAUSS's suggestion of Reality Hemorrhage. Having a legitimate way to kill Kor Firewalker in the mirror can't be understated. They'll likely be taking lots of damage from shocklands to power him out, you use Reality Hemorrhage and continue with the beatdown. Being good against Etched Champion just adds to the versatility.

TheLitchKing: I'll think about adding Molten Rain back. Also, if I were to add Reality Hemorrhage, what do you think I should drop?

February 11, 2016 2:03 p.m.

Lightpulsar9 says... #25

Maybe take out the Slagstorm? I don't really see where it's really good. vs affinity you already have lots of hate, as are trying to add more. vs other creature decks.... well you're playing burn. And maybe a Smash to Smithereens or two? I feel it's rather redundant with Destructive Revelry already in the side as a 4 of. You could run 1 smash and take out the slagstorm and go for 2 Molten Rain and 2 Reality Hemorrhage. That's what i'd do. What do you think?
