(with a couple changes before FNM started, taking some sides in main, and main in side because of what I was expecting to see)
Since entry fee was practically being paid to play, (no entry fee, and a free pack + prize support).
I figured, what the heck, I can make a good showing. SO I DID!
I won my first 3 matches handedly a couple of the games in those matches, got a little close, but nothing I wasn't expecting.
Game 4 was against what I really wanted to test against, unfortunately my deck seems to have a personality at this point. So I only got no lands or all lands, after always siding out a Shivan Reef each game, never had any issues until this match. Playing against the meta golem deck, Junk Midrange, person playing it claimed to be aggro but he just doesn't know that it was really a midrange deck. Lost both games terribly, game one kept a 2 land, never saw a land again, even with a Magma Jet scry. Gas ran out really quick, I won game 2, then game 3 was just all of the lands in a row, I removed threats very well and smoothly, but 4/4's for 3 seem to really really be a bane of this deck, even with a good sideboard against them.
My last match was just malarky. Everything was going to plan against this Mardu tokens list, until the third game, mulled to 5 with a 3 land hand. 2 Reefs and an Island, hit myself on the way out pretty much, and got flooded, against down to 18 lands for game 1 and 2, but I can't do anything to deal with Mana Screw, when 3/5 games tell me I'm fine, and the other 2 show me a couple crucial games where I can get flooded and run dry. Just 2 games that it happened in.
I'm glad it was over after that, I got really salty over that last match. I went from 2nd, to 5th, to 12th place.... kind of dumb, but I know this list now, it's almost modern good. I went 3-2 in the end, and had a real shot at being undefeated, or 4-1, but I didn't, still saying something though.
Notes for anyone reading:
Mardu Scout is great, but I always ended up siding one out, at least, and one game I sided out 2. Flamewake Phoenix did 2 or 4 damage at any game, but it was a finisher more than anything else. Those are the two cards I am considering taking out, or downsizing on, but I'm not sure. I will glady take suggestions, Searing Blood was really good, but not good enough with Control decks running around, I might add another, Eidolon of the Great Revel will likely be bumped to 4 in main.Dragonrage is gone, Break Through the Lines was fantastic with Goblin Rabblemaster, near end game, land one, go for it. Magma Jet was a replacement for Wild Slash since I had none, and it might have gotten itself a permanent spot in the list. I might also need Scouring Sands or Anger of the Gods, preferably Anger, but I'm still up in the air on it.
