Draw cards and maintain control as you build up a manabase to make big plays. This is the first EDH deck I ever built, and I've been steadily improving it for almost 3 years now. The goal of this deck is to balance cards that create fun interactions and board states with cards that can help the deck hold its own against a more "competitive" casual setting.

This is the 2nd large overhaul the deck has gotten, effectively making this Kruphix 3.0. The first overhaul consisted of throwing 22 counterspells into the deck, and this new update has a return to splashing in creatures of value.

Looking for another infinite combo or two that would easily fit in the deck, as well as any suggestions that would really add something interesting to the deck.

The Deck

  1. Get some lands.
  2. Play Kruphix.
  3. Get lots of lands.
  4. Store mana on Kruphix.
  5. Politics your way through the game to ration valuable counterspells.
  6. Continue storing mana on Kruphix.
  7. Use your counterspells to stop others from winning the game.
  8. Keep storing mana on Kruphix.

Repeat steps 3-8 as necessary before moving on to steps 9-10. You'll know you have enough mana when someone is muttering an expletive under their breath when looking at the dice you're using to keep track of your mana. You're ready to move on.

  1. Find a spell with an X in its cost and dump as much mana as you feel necessary into it. Repeat this step until you're the only player left.
  2. Win.

Kruphix's ruling states that riders on mana stay on the mana as it becomes colorless. This means you can use different types of lands and have to keep track of all the different types. I'm running snow forests so I can float mana and have to keep track of the "colorless snow mana" just to inconvenience the table. You can also toss in a Boseiju, Who Shelters All or a Cavern of Souls just to deliberately inconvenience yourself, as well as the fact that they just might operate well in a deck where you can use "uncounterable" mana on demand.

Cards I'm thinking about adding and will test if I get hold of them.

A good counterspell if you've got the cards to keep bringing it back. I'll be testing to see if the draw power feels good enough first.

It seems like it could be good value with all the colorless mana and permanents I can fetch, but I'll have to look into it further.

Suggestions

Updates Add

Garruk, Caller of Beasts and Gelatinous Genesis are out, Victory Chimes and Nezahal, Primal Tide are in.

Garruk felt underwhelming in the grand scheme of this deck, usually a dead draw and at best just a card to give me a little more gas. Gelatinous Genesis was a really fun card that has won me a few games, and maybe I'll consider it again (it is a blast to make 50 50/50 tokens), but for now I want to smooth this deck's rough edges out a little.

Victory Chimes is a great card for Kruphix. It's everything Spectral Searchlight wants to be politically, or if you're selfish it's 4 mana every round of turns. Nezahal is a great addition by being a hard to stop threat that will keep giving you gas.

Not that anybody noticed, but Frantic Search has yet to be put into this decklist, I'm doing a lot of playtesting to figure out what I personally find to be underwhelming so that I can toss it in, but the list is becoming really tight for a card that is really nothing more than a personal favorite.
