Basic Description
This deck is a fun, budget illusion deck.
It's built around Lord of the Unreal that protects and ramp the illusions and when Phantasmal Image is used on him the result is a nasty ramper very difficult to remove.
Krovikan Mist is the damage dealer since it can become very powerful very fast and when the enemy has air dominance you can use Phantom Warrior to sneak damage in.
Cancel, Mana Leak, Unsummon and Into the Roil allow for a discrete degree of control over the battlefield.
Card Breakdown
(in alphabetic order)
- Cancel: The standard 3 mana counter
- Illusionary Servant: much better than its cost, the downside ability can be solved with a Lord of the Unreal on the battlefield.
- Into the Roil: Permanent bouncer, if you have spared mana it evens replaces itself.
- Jace's Phantasm: a one drop illusion that is scary even when drawn lategame for its ability.
- Krovikan Mist: The damage dealer of the deck. It gets big very fast and has also some evasion.
- Lord of the Unreal: The only non-illusion creature. Ramps up and protects all your other creatures and when it becomes the target of Phantasmal Image it makes it just too amazing.
- Mana Leak: The blue mage's favorite.
- Mulldrifter: Not an illusion but a solid 2/2 flyer that lets you draw cards.
- Phantasmal Bear: 2/2 for 1 mana is well worth inclusion.
- Phantasmal Image: allows you to create an even more powerful version of Lord of the Unreal or to just copy the scariest thing on the board.
- Phantom Warrior: Solid damage dealer since it can't be blocked.
- Shaper Parasite: Gives you the option of using it as a removal, to increase the toughness of a creature or just as a 2/3 for 3 mana.
- Sleight of Hand: In my opinion the best draw spell in modern.
- Unsummon: Creature bounce spell, usefull for saving your Lord of the Unreal from removals or to put a nasty creatures back into your opponent's hand.
Maybeboard
- Pongify: The only blue removal (together with Rapid Hybridization that does the same thing).
- Fathom Seer: Nice card but I removed it since I rarely got to use it's ability.
- Phantasmal Dragon: Nice but too mana expensive for my tastes
