Sideboard

Welcome to my take on Mono Blue Tron. The thing I like most about this archetype is how versatile it is. Everyone builds this deck + sideboard differently to fit their playstyle/ metagame. My build aims to have a few different grind based combos to ensure the late game.

Combos

The first and most simple is Academy Ruins + any of Wurmcoil Engine, Sundering Titan, or Mindslaver. To protect the creatures from Path to Exile effects Phyrexia's Core is avaliable.

The other engine I am playing is Trading Post this card in the few games so far that I've tutored it has been amazing. If you have a Solemn Simulacrum in play and in the graveyard you can "Sacrifice a creature to return an artifact to your hand" doing this every turn draws you an extra card and searches out an extra blue mana. the other thing is it allows you to sacrifice while chumping. say they are attacking you with Tarmogoyf you can block then sacrifice an artifact to draw a card, but it mainly hoses burn. Being able to gain 4 every turn until you are at a safe life total is awesome. There are other uses as well if you don't have Academy Ruins you can sacrifice Treasure Mage and Solemn Simulacrum to return Mindslaver to your hand. Lastly it protects all your creature threats from Path to Exile.

Another thing my build has different than most lists I've seen is the second copy of Academy Ruins I am thinking of moving it to the sideboard for Eye of Ugin and the Eldrazi, but having the second copy in the 75 is something that I value. From the matches I've played having this card online with Phyrexia's Core has made most of my opponents concede. My playstyle has always revolved around grinding out my opponent. In the past Nephalia Drownyard has been my win condition of choice, but it is nice to use things that advance the board and heavily pressure the opponent.

Card Breakdown

Now for the spells, I use the generic set as they seem to be the most efficient. Remand and Condescend for the primary counters with one Spell Burst for buyback shenanigans.

The removal spells are Repeal to buy time along with Oblivion Stone and All Is Dust to wipe the board. I like having the variation in wraths for a few reasons firstly All Is Dust is cheaper money wise, secondly it goes through Stony Silence and Pithing Needle which is a plus. Another plus is it doesn't kill any of your spells aside from Treasure Mage.

My creature package is a bit standard, I'm back and forth on whether I want Platinum Angel in the list. In my meta there is a lot of burn which is why I run 2x Wurmcoil Engine in the main.

For the smaller creatures I run 2x Treasure Mage and for the moment 3x Solemn Simulacrum, I run one Fabricate so that I can search for Oblivion Stone, Trading Post, or Silent Arbiter. It is probably correct in lists not running Trading Post to just run 3x Treasure Mage the body protects your life total for an extra turn in a lot of situations.

Playing the Deck

In general you are not looking to jam turn 3 tron, however there are situations where you have to. normally you want an island by turn 2 to hold up counters. Blue tron can function without the urza lands active for quite some time and once you do get it active you fly ahead. The biggest part of this deck is knowing all of your utility lands and threats. Since you have so many pieces that can tutor being able to find the right line is very important. When people watching ask what my win condition is most of the time I say Academy Ruins because we win through our lands. They are uncounterable, and give us inevitability. another trick is to remand and repeal your own spells to dig through your deck. especially doing this to Talisman of Domination . This is probably my favorite deck that I have owned so far, it does some very unfair things while having plenty of interaction with your opponent.

37 player event.

Round 1: Grixis Twin 2-0

Game 1: I got tron online by turn 4. kept Condescend or Remand up while casting Solemn Simulacrum to establish extra blue mana. eventually got Academy Ruins and Oblivion Stone going to blow up any threat I needed to. Won with Mindslaver lock

Game 2: Both mull to 5 my 5 card was Urza's Mine, Urza's Power Plant, 2x Urza's Tower, Eye of Ugin I drew a Solemn Simulacrum by turn 3 to ramp further. He stalled on 3 mana and cast Tasigur, the Golden Fang. I searched and casted Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre blowing up one of his lands. He cast Remand and attacked me to 12 with Tasigur. I recast Ulamog targeting the Tasigur now that he was only on 2 mana he remanded it again then conceded.

Round 2: Elves 2-0

Game 1: He had a bit of a slow start. Repeal and Remand kept me from taking too much damage used Oblivion Stone to force him to rebuild board, by the time he got 3 creatures in play I Mindslaver locked him.

Game 2: I kept a hand of natural tron, Expedition Mapfoil, Solemn Simulacrum. He played mana elf turn one, I followed with turn one Expedition Mapfoil. He cast turn 2 Reclamation Sage to kill my map. Turn 3 I drew Steel Hellkite and won shortly after.

Round 3: Jund 2-1

Game 1: I countered the threats that mattered and played a turn 5 Wurmcoil Engine with Remand backup. He cast Terminate on it giving me tokens. The next turn I drew an extra Urza's Tower and used Fabricatefoil to tutor Trading Post end of his turn I sacrificed the lifelink token to return wurmcoil enginge to my hand, once he realized I could recur every turn he conceeded.

Game 2: He had a fast hand and by the time I stablized the board he killed me with Raging Ravine.

Game 3: He got me low but got the board stable with Academy Ruins + Oblivion Stone, while countering the Scavenging Oozes he played. Tutored up Ghost Quarter with Expedition Mapfoil he kept me off tron for awhile with Fulminator Mage but eventually I was able to Mindslaver Lock

Round 4: Infect 1-2

Game 1: Lost quickly

Game 2: Slowed him down enough to Mindslaver lock.

Game 3: Lost quickly

I think that this match up is awful for me, I'll be putting a Platinum Angel in the main to help out this one and Amulet Bloom.

Round 5: Grixis Twin 2-1

Game 1: He went for turn 4 combo when I had 4 mana up but I didn't have an answer.

Game 2: Kept him from killing with the combo with counterspells, Repeal and Oblivion Stone + Academy Ruins long enough to use Eye of Ugin to search for Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.

Game 3: I mulled to 5 and kept a one lander with double Expedition Mapfoil he got very flooded and I eventually forced out all his counterspells and fell onto the Mindslaver lock.

**Round 6: Merfolk** 0-0-3 Split

***Top 8***

**Round 7 Grixis Control** 2-0

*Game 1:* Long game, I never saw Expedition Mapfoils so did not establish tron. once I had 12 lands I cast and activated Mindslaver then played Academy Ruins. First time I have used this lock without tron active.

*Game 2:* He mulled to 4 I mulled to 6 and proceeded to ramp into a turn 6 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

**Thoughts** The deck has exceeded expectations getting Top 8 in my first two events with it. I think I am going to cut Karn Liberated for Platinum Angel to help out a few of the poorer matchups. Other considerations are cutting Trading Post and one Solemn Simulacrum for the 4th Thirst for Knowledge and potentially Spine of Ish Sah. I'll try out the Platinum Angel for sure next event and consider trying the deck without Post. I really have liked it so far in the situations where I cast Fabricatefoil to search it out. There are definitely situations where it is the best card in the deck, but sometimes it is a bit slow, or clunky. However you can always ditch it with Thirst for Knowledge. We'll see.

**Updates to come** Updating the list to reflect the sets/ foils that I have.
