Always best to check this out: What's In Standard

Dragonlord Kolaghan is really going to mess with those graveyard decks surfacing. Pity that only in his last 6 months in Standard he'll see play. But pretty good deck! See how the meta shifts and maybe make some changes to fend off the human or control decks.

Mclovin8617 I used Dragonlord Kolaghan quite a lot when SHE first came out in DTK.
Based on what you said I am think about adding another copy. I think that would mess with my curve too much, though.
If I can get Sword of the Animist happening, the deck thinning will make it easier for me to draw into her.
I wouldn't be surprised if my Sideboard ends up changing quite a bit. I'm already thinking about using Flaying Tendrils instead of Languish.
Thanks for the kind words.

Oh no I'm SO SORRY I thought Kolaghan was a he. Wait are all the Dragonlords female? I'm pretty sure Silumgar is a he...
July 23, 2016 9:55 a.m.
Mclovin8617 heh, it's no big deal.
I just kind of love Kolaghan.
The Dragonlords from the DTK block are split as far as gender goes.
Atarka= female
Dromoka = female
Kolaghan = female
Ojutai = male
Silumgar = male (so you've got that right)
I loved that block so much.

Khans block was the shit. I was just making my Scion of Ur EDH and all the new dragons (although not that good for EDH) got me so hyped up. The fetches were also nice bonuses each time you got one.
July 24, 2016 11:06 a.m.
Some of the Dragons were fantastic for EDH.
I've put a few in my Kaalia deck.
Deathbringer Regent
and of course Dragonlord Kolaghan

I feel like Cryptolith Fragment Flip is slowing my deck down without really offering anything great, so I'm going to remove both copies for more burn spells.
Coz better than dead.
July 24, 2016 4:48 p.m.
Found that I wanted more Creatures in the early game so I added another Rancid Rats and Relentless Dead.
Readjusted the burn spells to accommodate those.
Also tipped the scales in the favour of mana, as I seemed to need more of that in the early game.
July 26, 2016 4:41 a.m.
I needed more Flying Creatures in here so I've moved things around a bit to put in 4x Drana, Liberator of Malakir, because she's just that good.
The four copies allow her to draw out removal spells from my Opponent's hand.
I've also taken out Cemetery Recruitment as I have other ways to return Creatures to hand (Sanitarium Skeleton, Kolaghan's Command), or stopping them from dying (Relentless Dead). I've put in one extra Kolaghan's Command instead, as I think it offers better value.
Returning Creatures to hand acts as de facto draw, so I'm not too worried about losing that from Cemetery Recruitment.
I've put in a couple of more burn spells to round things out.
Creatures with a lot of fliers are my biggest problem at the moment.

Looks good, +1. Why no Draconic Roar? Haven of the Spirit Dragon could also be good for mana fixing and recursion. Foul-Tongue Invocation good against R/G Ramp and Avacyn-fueled indestructible attacks among other things. As for fliers, you could also use Mirrorwing Dragon, Avaricious Dragon, Boltwing Marauder, Hangarback Walker and possibly fuel a turn 3 Thunderbreak using Dragonlord's Servant. With the ramp Dragon Whisperer can also have flying whenever needed. Just to be inclusive, Tyrant of Valakut is nice with cheap spells to surge out and take out a creature, and Dragon Tempest is slow for burn or non-dragon heavy builds, but speeds up with mostly dragons lacking haste and also features a ping bonus.
July 28, 2016 4:36 a.m.
I know about these spells you are suggesting, and they would have been great in a deck that has much more of a Dragon focus, but they aren't suitable for a five Dragon deck.
The type of deck they work best in is something like this: Lord of the Skies, which was built by me at the height of DTK.
You can almost think of this deck as recursion with a twist of Dragons, but that deck name sounds dumb.

You can't burn from within and block with rancid rats to destroy a creature. Burn from within is sorcery speed and the lose indestructable affect is only until end of turn. you could however attack with rats then they block it then you force it to lose indestructable and it would die. However Rancid rats has skulk so most things with indestructable would not be able to block it anyway.

Ah yes, good points Fendercris.
For some reason I had a brain freeze and forgot Burn from Within was Instant speed.

Great deck! i love dragonlord kolaghan, i'm surprised it hasn't seen more play, her second ability second ability makes it impossible for a lot of decks to do anything. I've run a mardu control deck with kolagahn as a centrepiece. I had Goblin Dark-Dwellers so i could recur a removal spell on cast but i ran more low cost instants and sorceries so i'm unsure if it would be suited for this deck but you may find it helps.
Also have you considered Grasp of Darkness to take out an Archangel Avacyn Flip when she's flashed and get around other invincibility triggers, Selfless Spirit might be a popular option.
+1 from me!
July 29, 2016 12:30 p.m.
Thanks, monkeyprophet
You might not know this about Archangel Avacyn Flip, because I didn't until I was playing at a tournament in Japan.
She comes into play.
Unless you Counter her, her Invincibility trigger goes on the stack.
You can then kill her BEFORE her Invincibility trigger resolves.
She dies. Her trigger still resolves and makes all the other Creatures Invincible.
So, unless you use a Counter spell you can't stop her making all her friends Invincible, and there's no need for Grasp of Darkness as even an Ultimate Price can take her down.
Grasp of Darkness is a spell I love that I haven't really thought of for this build, so thanks for bringing my attention to it. It would be useful against Spell Queller.

Argeaux I did know that, which is why i mentioned other invincibility triggers such as Selfless Spirit, if it becomes a popular addition, will probably be on the field already before Archangel Avacyn Flip, so for those situations your opponent could sacrifice it in response to Ultimate Price making Avacyn invincible before her own invincibility trigger. Obviously you'd know in advance if it was going to happen as selfless spirit would already be on the field, unless it was later in the game and they had a Rattlechains on the battlefield and 7 mana.
As an aside, i don't know why i always call it an invincibility trigger, when it's indestructible, invincible would be much better.
Glad i could help.

You should definitely add 1-2 Westvale Abbey Flip(s) because it fits the them very well, especially since you have a token generator. It can also be used as an alternate win con and is very powerful. Still, +1 from me. I'm a big fan of the B/R combination.
July 30, 2016 12:21 p.m.
I have thought about that SirFowler but there is only room for three lands that tap for colourless in this deck.
That means I would have to remove Hanweir Battlements, removing it's Meld with Hanweir Garrison, and also losing its Haste ability.
With only two copies of Hanweir Garrison in the deck it's not exactly a very reliable Token generator.
However, if either of the Hanweir cards turn out to be underperforming, it's certainly something I'll consider.
Rogue's Passage is another land I could have included.
July 30, 2016 12:31 p.m.
After reviewing my Sideboard I've realised that most of the cards in it, while solid, are Sorceries.
I'm going to rethink it if I keep having problems with Indestructible Creatures.
In that case I would consider some of these cards:
Butcher's Glee
Foul-Tongue Shriek
Grip of Desolation
To the Slaughter

On the What's in Standard site, it says that Dragons of Tarkir and Magic Origins rotate out today, so you might want to rethink the strategy a bit. That means a lot of your cards are being removed, mainly you dragons, firecrafts, and commands.

Dragons and Origins don't rotate until Kaladesh comes out.
July 30, 2016 6:04 p.m.
Right, for some reason I thought it was September. Sorry.

Hasn't dragons of tarkir dropped from standard rotation?
