Since Ixalan has brought tribal like merfolk back in vogue I'm trying out other tribes to see if I can eke out enough power to be playable in modern. One new tribe that Kaladesh gave us new tools to play was constructs. The focus of this deck is recurring your creatures to generate value while directly damaging your opponent.
Strategy
You are looking to throw constructs out, pump them up and then recur them back to your hand when they die. Spells do direct damage (Galvanic Blast), lands do direct damage (Sunscorched Desert) and some creatures can do direct damage (Walking Ballista). A second group of cards help increase the threat of other creatures on the board (Steel Overseer & Metallic Mimic). A third type gain value by recurring cards (Pia's Revolution, Scrap Trawler & Workshop Assistant). The final kind of cards provide general value by allowing you to play out cards without paying mana costs (Aether Vial, Treasure Keeper & Foundry Inspector).
Synergies
Walking Ballista & Metallic Mimic - Dropping the ballista for can help get threats out quickly.
Walking Ballista & Steel Overseer - Being able to pump all the ballistae for free is also helpful
Combo
Walking Ballista, Metallic Mimic & Pia's Revolution - Not infinite but a high damage output combo that can set itself off with other cards in the deck.
Fun Cards
Treasure Keeper - There is no card in the deck treasure keeper does not hit. It's no Bloodbraid Elf for sure, but the effect seems strong enough.
Scrap Trawler - The trawler is a value engine in this deck. It pulls back all the engine cards for this deck and makes sure that if an engine card you control is dealt with it cal pull back another to keep the deck going.
Concerns
Right now this deck is a very casual list of a tribal deck I've been working on. It needs a lot of tuning.
Given the popularity of artifact and graveyard hate in sideboards in the format and that this is a mix of direct damage, value and attrition this deck may be a bit unfocused and not perform as well as I hope.
Help Needed
This deck is focused on the tribal aspect but a bit all over the place in every other. What can I do to tighten it up?
