Main Deck
This deck is a beautiful perfection of awesomeness. It gives the speed of burns, the midrange to deal with longer matches, and the aggro tokens for dealing with most creature decks. This deck has 3 different strategies imbedded into it which is highly unrecommended for most pro-style deck making but I feel like this deck makes me capable of handling most of any deck, from control to aggro to anything. The Sideboard is a HUGE part of that. Also, the 3 different strategies seem to interact and flow well together. The only issues I have seen with this deck has been mana management. It seems that the only times I lose, is when I'm either mana flooded or mana f***ed. I have tried to play mainly basic mountains and have played with everything from 20-23 lands and it just seems that no number of lands seems to be good. I just recently found out about fetch lands and will most likely be adding them this week.
The Burn
Ok, so basically, it has some of the best burn cards and can end a game within turn 3 almost irrelevant of your opponent's hand as long as you get a killer hand. The Goblin Grenades combo awesomely with the
Goblin Arsonist
s and the Mogg War Marshals. For a more extended game, the Guttersnipe works wonders for a turn 3-5 win with the burn spells.
The Army
The Goblins work as chump damage/blockers and if Krenko, Mob Boss can't be dealt with, it usually will be the game changer that takes a game to mid/long range guaranteed win.
The Planeswalker
Chandra, the Firebrand basically is there mainly for her -2 ability and because she's a planeswalker. Her -2 ability in combination with most of these burn spells functions great to deliver killer blows. If somehow I make it to her -6, it usually makes the win. Although, after much consideration, I may be changing her for
Koth of the Hammer
or may be playing one of each. We shall see.
The Beauty
The coup de grace for this deck is really in the beautiful and lovely
Browbeat
. It is basically the win-win card. For my deck, it either functions to strike 5 certain damage to player, or in most cases, it allows me to draw 3 cards. For my deck, those extra 3 cards usually result in more than 5 damage and allows for much greater strategy and allows me to use all the different possible strategies. The beauty of it is, if the opponent lets you draw 3, I would say from experience, 75% of the time, it leads to ANOTHER
Browbeat
. I would also say that if they continue to let you draw 3, about 25% of games will lead to playing 3
Browbeat
s, and it has also happened that I have played 4
Browbeat
s. The beauty is, if they choose to take the 5 damage, then you are that much closer to winning. If you are allowed to draw 3, about 80% of the time, it generally leads to a win. And interestingly enough, most players will allow you to draw 3 at least on the first game. After they lose to you the first game, they will usually start taking the 5 damage, and usually, this means you can now move in for the kill with other burn spells. :)
Side Board
Blood Moons - How can any modern red deck not play this card?
Goblin King - This card is for going against other red decks, or in combination with the Blood Moons.
Vexing Shusher - The beautiful counter for the Blue Control Counter deck. :D
Smash to Smithereens - The artifact remover that burns. What a beauty against artifacts. :)
Leyline of Punishment - This card is just great for those annoying healing decks.
Future Plans
Planning on using Terramorphic Expanses or/and Evolving Willds for mana controlling and thinning of the deck better in place of using just basic lands. I'm a bit afraid of possible cards out there that might counter or effect nonbasic lands, but so far, the only one I really know of for modern is Blood Moon which basically might cause me to mana flood at worst... Question right now is, if I do use these cards, how many do I use? 4? 6? 8? I feel that if I play too many of them, it might slow me down 1 turn since the lands come in tapped. I will see what works.
Most likely will be gettting
Koth of the Hammer
and hopefully will work well.
