i think molten nursery would be a good addition.

Have you considered Elusive Spellfist as a cheaper alt to Zephyr Scribe? And you're playing blue, cram 4x Serum Visions in the list :)

Cool idea! +1

Maybe you'd consider one or two Mox Opals in your zero mana artifact slots.

@ddxxe Elusive Spellfist does not run the combo as he will not untapwhen I bring something in so all I could use him as would be a large creature that could be easily blocked which seems a bit in consistent to me. As for Serum Visions I love the card but it's a bit slow for this deck as it can not so easily facilitate the turn 2 or turn 3 win I can often pull.

@sergiodelrio I had first though to utilize Mox Opal but I just don't run enough artifacts that I can consistently cause it to active it's functionality so it offent felt like a bit of a dead card.

@hawksmash65 In the current iteration of the decks build I have 12 outlets for my engine (4 infinite mill, 8 infinite damage) all of which I can bring to play faster than Molten Nursery, however if I do decide that I require more outlets down the line nursery would become a fair choice but as it stands I can not currently warrant the addition.

You should almost certainly be playing Mirran Spy or Battered Golem over Zephyr Scribe, since neither die to Gut Shot or Orzhov Pontiff.

@TheFanatic At a competitive level I just rarely see something like either of those cards, I worry about Lightning Bolt, Dismember, and Path to Exile none of which I can directly answer out side of casting Pact of Negation. To this end I find it hard to justify adding in Mirran Spy or Battered Golem as Zephyr Scribe offers me utility outside of the combo to dig for my missing combo pieces. To any extent thank you for the comments I appreciate the time you took to post.

ArchFline I think TheFanatic was talking about using Mirran Spy/Battered Golem to replace Nettle Drone, which is easier to kill. Just in case they do happen to play Gut Shot :)

@Nightdragon779 I actually can not remove Nettle Drone from the deck as I can not produce a turn 2 win without him. Aside from that he plays a similar role as Zephyr Scribe in that he offers me far greater utility which is worth the risk of his low toughness. That being said I really don't mind spot removal as this deck can consistently pull wins on turn 3 and 4 even in the presence of moderate removal.

If you change out Elusive Spellfist for Zephyr Scribe, then turn three is your damage win if you do not draw the Altar of the Brood for the mill turn 2. Scribe only helps you find pieces starting turn 4.

As for the side board. I would suggest: Dispel, Serum Visions, Lightning Bolt.

I updated the deck to increase the ability to filter while also adding Manamorphose to mana correct my turn two allowing Grapeshot to function for the turn 2 win.

@Eckerd It is important to note that for the core engine/win of this deck I run effectively 8 of each component which facilitates combo consistency. What your asking me to do would be to effectively move from 12 combo outlets to 15 while halving the consistency of the combo engine... Which is a step backward in the core nature of deck design. Aside from that I find using a creature for a turn 4 win outlet unreasonable as next to every modern competitive deck runs creature hate.

would love to see a hyper-budget version of this deck

I think you can shave off around $470 if you drop the fetch lands in favor of some cheaper land choices. And dropping out Mishra's Bauble to save another $40 ish.

Deck seems pretty solid as is, maybe Izzet Staticaster in SB against some hyper aggro decks? Your deck seems to have enough oomph to still be able to combo out on turn 4 or 5 if needed, and staticaster just as a one of may help against certain decks. As far as mainboard maybe sleight of hand? It is potentially a bit "faster" filtering as you get a chosen card instead of just a draw and can send a dead draw like a land to the bottom, increasing consistency a bit. Also, wouldn't tormod's crypt be better in sideboard as well as herbal poultice and replace them with Welding Jar as they offer a bit more protection to your combo if needed, and accomplish mainly the same goal overall.

If in a control match-up, or you know they are playing cheap counters, perhaps putting Dispel in the side is worth it.

ArchFline says... #20

I utilize Tormod's Crypt as my primary kill is through mill and tormod's can ensure they have no response to what I've done. As for Welding Jar I will board it in main over Herbal Poultice as herbal often doesn't see use.

But...you know this deck gets hosed when they ban Eldrazi Temple

February 27, 2016 9:23 p.m.

ArchFline says... #22

I don't see the likely hood of an Eldrazi Temple ban just a ban on Eye of Ugin and perhaps Chalice of the Void as both pose a direct threat to game health mostly eye though as wizards of the coast does not mind longer games but will not accept the ability to very consistently win earlier than turn 4.

Wait, isn't this my deck? Where did you find this?

I feel like Gifts Ungiven might not be bad to have 1 or 2 of in the deck, as it could search out combo pieces.

@s4s_FlavorTown I built this deck from concept to paper when I noticed more cards similar to Midnight Guard had been printed. From there I pieced it together like most combo decks do (based on synergy). That being said for this type of deck there are few ways to really deversify the combo as most combo decks are at a core very similar.
