Here's some more suggestions:+1 Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch +1 Ghor-Clan Rampager
Scavenging Ooze Very good card, but seems very situational. I'm experimenting with other 2-drops at the moment to see if they work better.

I agree on Slitherhead . It's really no big deal unless you can discard it in the first place. Consider 2 more Elvish Mystic plus the added Exava and Rampager also mentioned in its place.

Ogre Battledriver seems better that the blood witch here

I think Battledriver would work better in a Gruul build. The RR would be less cost intensive there. Jund colors offers access to better removal though.

I disagree armedpp, exava is a 4/4 with first strike and haste, she can win games all by herself.

+1 from me, I like the take on it. I'm doing something similar. Maybe you can take a look and share some ideas, possible get some yourself? Jund Hydras (Post Rotation)

I've taken out 2 of the Savage Summoning for 2 Lotleth Troll
Thoughts?

Yes, but this is an aggro/ramp deck, i want to keep my mana curve low, and ramp up in other ways.

Nice, I like the exclusion of Corpsejack Menace . In nearly every one of these type decks I see him as a 4 of, but its just overkill. If your hydra even survives a turn, youve already won, you don't need him. Anyway, for our little playtest thing, I'm supposed to do my own sideboarding, then play them? I'm totally down with it, just making sure I know what I'm doing.
August 4, 2013 11:16 a.m.
I don't know if I really understand why you have 3xVarolz, the Scar-Striped
. Considering you have 8 mana dorks and 6 hydras, you're looking at 14 targets which are going to give you either 1 or 0 counters from his ability. Outside that, you don't have any great targets other than the rampager after you bloodlust with him. If you really want to keep him in, I would think he should be a 1 of at best, but I think your deck would be better off without him. Maybe mainboard some of your removal, or better yet 3xGolgari Charm
to protect your guys from ever making it to the graveyard.

8 +1/+1 counters is still pretty good, plus he can protect himself, prevent creatures from falling under an opponents control, etc.
He is a badass

Well, you got me. In the end, 9 mainboard removal spells wasn't enough. Here's the game:
My sideboard: +2 Pithing Needle (stop Lotleth or Varolz from regenerating), +2 Abrupt Decay (you've got lower CMCs, and Doom Blade doesn't hit most of your stuff), -3 Doom Blade , -1 Dreadbore
M: Unforgivn_II, Y: Schuesseled
M gets to choose who is on the play, elects to be on the play.
M starting hand: Stomping Ground , Rootbound Crag , Woodland Cemetery , Putrefy , 2x Desecration Demon , Kalonian Hydra (Not too bad, guaranteed a turn 3 Putrefy and one black mana and I can take off)
Y starting hand: Mountain , Forest , Elvish Mystic , Putrefy , Varolz, the Scar-Striped , Kalonian Hydra , Scavenging Ooze (Eh, this is scetchy, if I can get black mana, its perfect. Even if I don't, I'll still have early plays, so I'll go hardcore.)
Both keep hands.
M1: plays Stomping Ground tapped, pass
Y1: draw Swamp (boom), play Forest and Elvish Mystic , pass
M2: draw Dragonskull Summit (everyone gets good topdecks!), plays it, pass
Y2: draw Putrefy , plays Swamp and Scavenging Ooze , swing with Elvish Mystic for 1 (M:19, Y:20)
M3: draw Ghor-Clan Rampager , play Woodland Cemetery , pass (I'll Putrefy at instant speed)
Y3: draw Savageborn Hydra , swing out, Scavenging Ooze gets Putrefy d, Elvish Mystic hits for 1 (M:18, Y:20), play Mountain and Varolz, the Scar-Striped (I hope killing the Ooze was worth it...)
M4: draw Kalonian Hydra , play Rootbound Crag and Desecration Demon , pass
Y4: draw Elvish Mystic , Putrefy the Desecration Demon , swing with Varolz, hit for 2 (M:16, Y:20), tap Elvish Mystic to play Elvish Mystic , pass
M5: draw Putrefy , pass
Y5: draw Ghor-Clan Rampager , swing with Varolz, hits for 2 (that's a lot of open mana, and I feel like that's baiting a kill spell that I have since I didn't play anything last turn. I'll hold on, Varolz isn't too big yet...), (M:14, Y:20), plays Kalonian Hydra , (bingo), it gets Putrefy d, pass.
M6: draw Ghor-Clan Rampager , play Desecration Demon , pass
Y6: draw Stomping Ground , play it tapped, Putrefy s the Desecration Demon (you do know you're only allowed 4 of one card right? Enough putrefying...), scavenge the Scavenging Ooze (ironic) onto Varolz, swing with him for 4 (M:10, Y:20), pass
M7: draw Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch (land, any day now...), play her without unleash, pass (I need blocks or I'm done in 2 turns now...)
Y7: draw Blood Crypt , play it tapped, swing with only Varolz, no blocks, Bloodrush Ghor-Clan Rampager onto him, hits for 8 (M:2, Y:20), pass
M8: draws Woodland Cemetery (yay?), plays it and Kalonian Hydra , pass
Y8: draws Blood Crypt , plays it tapped, swings out, Kalonian Hydra blocks Varolz, Exava blocks one Elvish Mystic , the other is unblocked. In response to blockers, Varolz sacrifices the blocked Elvish Mystic to regenerate. Mystic hits for 1 (M:1 Y:20), Kalonian Hydra dies, tap 5 for a 3/3 Savageborn Hydra , pass
M9: draw Elvish Mystic , plays it and Ghor-Clan Rampager as a creature, pass (did I maybe stabilize?)
Y9: draw Forest (come on, I've already drawn a couple Putrefy s, why not another?), play it, add 3 counters to Savageborn Hydra , swing with only the hydra, chumped by Elvish Mystic , pass
M10: draw Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch (because two is better than one? Nope), plays Ghor-Clan Rampager as a creature, pass
Y10: draw Stomping Ground , play it tapped, add 3 counters to Savageborn Hydra , swing with just the hydra, chumped by Exava, pass
M11: draw Hellhole Flailer (so glad Savageborn Hydra doesn't have trample), plays it without unleashing it, pass
Y11: draw Ghor-Clan Rampager , GG
You have bested me sir. I think I'm going to put Lotleth Troll in my deck. I like how he's cheap and difficult to get rid of, and somehow he slipped my mind every time I thought "so how can I make this better?" Honestly though, I feel like we were closely matched, life total aside. I was one kill spell away from laying down a gnarly onslaught, but it just wasn't in the cards. But mirror matches are supposed to be close. And yeah, Varolz was a beast. I don't think he fits in my build since mine doesn't have many cheap creatures, but he's an all-star in yours.

@Unforgivn_II, Yeah, Varolz is great in this deck, so much junk i can sac to keep him alive with, which makes him really hard to block properly or get rid of.
Lotleth Troll seems like a smart choice for your deck as well, I over looked him back when i was running BuG Aggro because discarding creatures didn't sound like a good idea, but he's also really hard to kill and has built in trample. (And he can get bigger through Kalonian Hydra or in the case of my deck Varolz, the Scar-Striped too).
This was a fun match up, it's a shame you weren't able to lay down those big creatures a little faster, because that's the one thing my deck doesn't handle too well, lots of big creatures.

I also think Savageborn Hydra is a really great card for this deck. (i went on ebay to complete my playset last night), I can get it down on turn 2 as a 1/1, and pump it with excess mana untill it's truly horrible. Perfect fit for an Aggro and Ramp deck, it's both fast paced and slow paced. (Actually that's true of a lot of the cards in here)

I would absolutely add in Domri Rade in this deck. So many creatures, he's bound to hit them on a constant basis. Probably lower the number of doom blades, and sub in some Dreadbore s or Putrefy s . Savage Summoning to me is more of a sideboard card that is placed in for control decks. Not sure how your meta is, but its understandable having it in the mainboard because i know my meta is full of america control.
Im definitely going to think about putting in Dreg Mangler over Hellhole Flailer . I want to test it to see how different they work.
This is a great deck, so many beasts. +1 from me

The mainboard isn't set in stone yet, after a few FNM's after theros comes out i should have that nailed down.
I'm not sure about Domri Rade notamardybum, i feel like i'd rather have a creature in his place, i don't know maybe, worth considering.

Its incredible hand feed, its also a kill spell when you force your creature to fight another creature, and the ultimate is just win

I made a couple of changes Unforgivn_II; added two Domri Rade , as notamardybum suggested. (Now i just have to find them, and the hydras) Took out Doomblade all together, making room for 2 Golgari Charm 's in the sideboard. Mainboarding two Abrupt Decay 's in there place, one of the best kill spells out there. Also replaced a Swamp with an extra Mountain , as there's now more red in the mainboard.
Let me know what you think.

Varolz, the Scar-Striped is not a good fit here. As previously said, you don't have very good creatures for scavenging. I would take out Savageborn Hydra as it is too slow for aggro and too easily killed if you pop him in at as a 1/1 or 2/2 creature. Shock or Doom Blade would be two common choices for that duty. And once it is in the graveyard, Varolz, the Scar-Striped couldn't even use its corpse. Kalonian Hydra is a great win condition, but nothing to rely on with so much removal in play at the moment. 2 of those are good, but if you are going to keep Varolz, you need cheap mana cost to power ratio. Brushstrider , Kalonian Tusker , and Spike Jester are pretty good choices. If you really want Savageborn Hydra , I would take out Varolz, the Scar-Striped and replace him with a aggressive 2 or 3 drop.
I am working on a similar deck, and the hydras are tempting, but they are not as fast as you may think. You may also want to consider Ranger's Guile to have a little creature protection.
I will keep watching your progress to help me get ideas for my deck Exava makes haste.

I'm not the kinda of player that likes to react, howls88, so i tend to stay away from purely defensive cards, especially whilst i'm building an aggro deck.
I shall probably start taking this to FNM when theros is released, and thanks always great to have subscribers.
Savageborn Hydra is awesome, almost every playtest i've done on here, he's the all star, the champ, he totally kicks butt. He's a turn 2 1/1 with doublestrike (if i play Elvish Mystic ) a turn 3 3/3 doublestrike, a turn 4 5/5 with doublestrike. If my opponent can't answer him, i will kill him with this.
Yes Varolz, the Scar-Striped cant scavenge the hydras, but that's not even his primary roll. Regardless he has a few good targets for scavenging, and anything he can't do Scavenging Ooze will hover up, he's not actually as good as the ooze, although sometimes he does net more counters, but 7 scavengers is better than 4.I just love how hard he is to kill, (black and has regenerate) and when i need to i can use his ability to get rid of some junk in my graveyard to make him or some other dude strongerer. (yes that's a word, trust me).
Thanks for your suggestions, i'll add them to the maybeboard for the time being, in case some spots open up.

Love the use of bloodrush, and its a nice way to give Savageborn Hydra
trample.
I see how yours is unique. +1 Kind sir, i meant no offense :D

I would suggest losing the Slitherhead . There are lots of other cards that could give this deck more mileage. Maybe Rakdos Cackler
