I don't think she is as good WizKerr, xenagos seems miles better. The bow Doesn't look good For a fast pace deck, furthermore the air scry lands are terrible for fast paced decks

I'll be trying out my first go with this deck tommorow with the release of theros, at my local LGS. I won't have any of the new theros cards until they are delivered, but that's only 6 cards, and 2 mainboarded!.

Congrats on the 3-0, I'm curious to see what Xenegos brings to the party once you get them. Probably won't have any trouble remembering to sideboard out the savageborn against control once you get your mistcutters :)

Thanks hopefully this can become a winning streak, or i'll have to change my description :D.

Check back every two weeks, for more FNM reports. I might try to find another place that does FNM's.

I dunno if this has been mentioned, but how bout Ruric Thar, the Unbowed for control match ups?

September 28, 2013 3:38 p.m.

playtested this against my mindlessness deck,

game one: you couldn't pump out enough creatures to touch me, and anything that did stay on the field was usually a hydra etc. so i just hated on it with Grisly Spectacle until you had about 30 cards in your grave, so i played Consuming Aberration , which got hit by Abrupt Decay so i just played my second consuming aberration and you had no kill spells

game two: very similar, i was a bit manascrewed at the beggining, so my only real control was Far and Syncopate for your hydra, but my mana sped up, so i could eventually get out 3 Consuming Aberration and you had no Abrupt Decay

general point: your deck doesn't like control

Reading_is_cool, i like to play spells too! :D

That's why I have a sideboard bantam1234 let me make some changes and let you know how i got on.

September 29, 2013 8:35 a.m.

But... but... Even if you are playing noncreature spells, you won't even need to play them if you have Ruric-Thar out against a control deck! You'll just straight up win!

In my opinion, i think Reaper of the Wilds has way better value than Savageborn Hydra . She can make her self death touch so anything that trys to kill her ends up being dead also and you scry 1. Where I could just chump block with a 1/1 against Savageborn Hydra . Not to mention the two mana hexproof is amazing. "Oh your thinking of board wiping? Ill just scry until i get a kalonian hydra.". The thing with savage born hydra is that it costs way to much for so little. Sure the pump thing is ok but he has no way to defend himself. Anyway, thats just my take on savageborn hydra.

Oh, you took. savageborn out for misscutter. Anyways i still think Reaper of the wilds is a crazy good card.

Schuesseled says... #12

No, actually i was just messing with my sideboard for playtesting purposes, look he's back now.

Anyways, i disagree, Savageborn Hydra is really good, due his versatility, you can play him quickly, or late game, you can pump him, or not whilst maintaining the threat of his presence.

Reaper of the Wilds seems cool, but he's not powerful enough to replace my luvely hydras, and i can't cast him early. :(

So I accepted your challenge and played 2 BO 3 series against my Rock Lobster Party. First set was tight, I won due to topdecking the right cards 2-1 (Gaze of Granite is insanely good against you, as you curve out at 4, and for the Dragon or Kalonian I have spot-Removal, after SB I have Lifebane and TS to disrupt your hand and play early on). Second set was rather clear: 2-0 for me. Just fyi, no bragging or anything. Try it out please.

Whoops, I only now realize you don't even have Stormbreath Dragon in your list (WHY?!). Sorry for that, all the time during playing I've wondered why I never draw it..

Forgot to mention something: You were able to pop Xenagos, The Reveler 's ultimate once, but only got a Mangler, a Rampager and a Savageborn Hydra (which died a horrible death :()

Sorry for tiple-post: I really love your list and wanted you to know I added it to the queue. More people need to know about how awesome Hydras can be with Theros :)

@Putrefy I'm trying to keep the mana curve low, i didn't want to add to my two five drops that I already have, plus it's really expensive. :P

I shall have to playtest your deck, doing some siding of my own.

I really like this deck; I am always looking for a good challenge to test my deck and this deck delivered. I playtested 2 games against my deck: Tehehehe. . .

Result: I won both games. My deck is more defense / control and makes your big creatures not so good. I believe with your sideboard I would have had a much tougher time. Anyway, cheers! +1

Gotta echo what Putrefy said here, Stormbreath Dragon is so, so, good in this build. But totally understand budget issues. Have you playtested with Xenagos, The Reveler yet? I am wondering if it is worth the inclusion.

Lol, I play tested this against my G/W aggro deck that I built for rotation.I won, solely because of Soldier of the Pantheon . That card just kind of laughs at your deck, he got through with 2 damage each time and gained me life in the end. I dont think even your sideboard takes care of him. One thing you might want to consider is the instant speed Dreadbore , Hero's Downfall . Its insane. Another card you may want to try to find a spot for in the SB is doom blade, its conditional but its still removal which halts just about any other aggro, creature based deck out there. Anyway, I like this built I've always seen Jund and liked it but never built it, +1 from me!

Check out my deck: G/W ridiculous

How is Xenagos, The Reveler working out for you? I considered trying him out and in the end opted for Garruk since he can put me back in the game post board wipe. Also, congrats on the FNM win. :)

@ ct519: how exactly did you manage to gain life with Soldier of the Pantheon ? Just curious.

October 4, 2013 3 a.m.

ct519 says... #22

@ Putrefy well, just about all of his spells are multicolored. I didnt GAIN life, just one life everytime he casted somthing.

October 4, 2013 1:16 p.m.

Schuesseled says... #23

I agree that Soldier of the Pantheon is good, but he's just a 2/1 my deck can outrace the damage he can pump out, i suppose it all depends on what other cards are in play.

@emrakool, haven't had a chance to use him yet, i didn't have him during the last FNM, ill keep you informed.

Think I've got this just about perfect for my next FNM, just need to pick up those BTE's. Anywho, i wanted to give a wink and a shoutout to everyone that's voted up my deck, let me know what you think of the deck with all the changes.

Sweet. Nice to see that its good. I have most of these cards anyway, I might have to sleeve it up and give it a go sometime...

Have you found Xenagos to be essential? Not good, but something the deck absolutely needs. Because he's the only thing that I don't have.
