Xenagos truly could be a nightmare for control, given that there's no drawback to pooping out 2/2s with haste. I opted for Garruk, Caller of Beasts but I did go a bit more midrange with the heavier Hydra count, so he works out nicely.
As much as I do love the Hydras, have you considered Stormbreath Dragon in place of Savageborn Hydra ? The double strike is nice, but the dragon has built in evasion and doesn't have to worry about having a Ghor-Clan Rampager in hand to get through.

On the other hand emrakool they are less flexible with ramping, 7 mana is a lot, even for my deck, (also less flexbile to cast) with savageborn i can do it in little lumps. But it's not a terrible suggestion, i don't have a bigillion dollars with which to buy them, so i'll just add a playset to my wants list for the moment, in case i should need them.

I'm very interested in testing your deck in my next installment of Showdown. Not only do I want a rematch, but your's is an archetype that NEEDS testing.

Honestly, I have found this to be a little clunky in my play testing. Just stalling out a fair amount, although that might be problems with my version of the build. I think I am going to shift to a B/G build using Lotleth Troll , Desecration Demon , and Reaper of the Wilds . I think that the format works better for two color decks unless you are doing the control thing.

Hey Schuesseled I've been playing this deck for the past 2 weeks of post rotation and i gotta hand it to you this deck does work! I've made top 3 in standard for the past 2 weeks now and i couldn't be happier with this deck build the only changed i have to the deck is i took out the Zhur-Taa Druid and replaced it with Gyre Sage which which makes this deck even better cause there are so many evolve triggers that happen and you have so much mana to put into your hydra's! but yeah i followed your sideboard options and it is so good against esper deck Golgari Charm is so underrated people never see it coming lol! plus those Burning-Tree Emissary make it very easy for me to get out those Savageborn Hydra haha! let me know if you think removing those druids for the sage would be better thanks!

It could work better but I hate evolve so I'll never be using it. Glad to see someone net decking this.

As I said on the article mentioned above I have a similar, yet radically different take on Jund where I use Signal the Clans and 1-2x of some of the more powerful creatures in Jund standard. Two that I find particularly effective are Stormbreath Dragon , and Mistcutter Hydra . Is there a reason you are choosing not to run Stormbreath Dragon ? He can be quite a force.
I also get quite a giggle out of Nylea, God of the Hunt + Savageborn Hydra . Gets em every time. Have you ever considered her? Seems like you could get her devotion fairly easily with Burning-Tree Emissary .
Speaking of the Gods. There has been a recent surge in devotion decks, I find a 1x Polis Crusher works really well against these decks by providing protection. Putting aside his protection he is still a 4/4 for 4 with trample, that alone is pretty good.
Mine for reference: Jund Clan

@ Ohthenoises The main reason he is not on here is because i don't have any. If you need an extra reason, I also want to keep the curve as low as I can, so if i was to put the dragon in, Savageborn Hydra would have to leave, and if he leaves Kalonian Hydra has to get cut, and if he gets cut Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch needs to be replaced. I'm afraid it will mess with my build too much, but it's definetly something to consider.
I prefer blood rush trample over nylea, although i can see that being quite the combo.

It's a fun one for sure. Yea, dat bloodrush doe.... All in all looks good. Personally I like the synergy that Gyre Sage and Kalonian Hydra have but I noticed you said no evolve, what's the motivation there? Is it because it doesn't produce mana until after you cast your first body? That doesn't seem to be much of a problem here with Burning-Tree Emissary and all of your other 2 drops. Or is it just because you hate the mechanic? It just seems to be better than Zhur-Taa Druid

Thoughts on Corpsejack Menace and Crowned Ceratok for this deck?

@ Ohthenoises, i have two main problems with him, firstly evolve is very dependent on over extending, and i have tried him before in another deck and it didn't work out, secondly he can't ramp the turn after he comes out, what i like to do is Turn 1 Mana Dork into Turn 2 Dreg Mangler, or Turn 2 mana dork into turn 3 exava or xenagos or savageborn. Even on occasion turn 1 mana dork, into turn 2 mana dork into turn 3 kalonian hydra. And gyre sage can't do that, as he needs to evolve. He's a slower paced card, not bad, but I want this deck to be as fast as possible.
@ acbooster corpsejack is a little slow, and ceratok doesn't work very well in a vacuum. Plus I have the bloodrush trample dude and that works nicely.
October 19, 2013 9:34 p.m.
Very true. What about Armed / Dangerous slapped onto one of them? Either wipe their board, win, or both. It is slower, but the Armed half could be a finisher.

Savageborn Hydra is basically an Armed on legs. :D

What about Voyaging Satyr for the dork slot then? He combos well with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx (Which I notice you're not running. Might I suggest 2x?) Seen the top 8 theros Pro tour one guy had Gruul midrange and Voyaging Satyr did work for him. He also gets you multiple colors.
October 19, 2013 9:39 p.m.
It is, but you can't use him if I Slaughter Games him games 2 and 3. :3

@Spootyone What do you think of the new changes, I know you thought Savageborn Hydra was good for this deck, as did I, but I'm thinking the new red dragon is a better fit due to the haste.
@Ohthenoises I'm not keen on the shrine, but Voyaging Satyr seems like a nice fit, and he would help with casting costs. I'll have to try him out.
I suppose GamerSonX, what's your point?

YOU state, FNM results, and yet those are not FNM results. just nit picking I guess.

I include game day and any FNM like official tournament not necessarily held on a friday.
October 20, 2013 3:28 p.m.
Like the changes, but I'm thinking with the changes, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch wants to be a Desecration Demon
October 21, 2013 3:55 p.m.
Also, I think Nighthowler wants to be a Boon Satyr given that you are running Scavenging Ooze . Plus the flash is really nice for the control matchup

Couldn't disagree more armedpp, Desecration Demon is rubbish in an aggro deck, your finishers have to attack. I'm not certain if Nighthowler will work but I think he works well with his pal the ooze as it's a failsafe, if you kill one you ensure your doom from the other.

@Unforgivn_II I'm still unsure, I really like the ability to spam out 2/2's in order to overwhelm the opponent, also all planeswalker tend to draw damage away from you, and if you can use his +1 he's simply money.
Turn 3: Play Xenagos, with Elvish Mystic and Zhur-Taa Druid already on the field, pinging the opponent for one, add 2 mana, play Burning-Tree Emissary , tap a swamp to play Dreg Mangler . That's quite an efficient hand dump.
I haven't had an oppurtunity to play him at FNM just yet, but in casual matches i've found that he can pump up your available mana, or board state with relative ease.
