Played a couple games against a boros agro and selesnya agro (Fleecemane Lion and Advent of the Wurm) and the deck was hit or miss.
With so much mana ramping, the actual creatures that do work are a little too scarce. And by turn 5 or 6, I need to start sacking my mana dorks to stay alive. And I found Voyaging Satyr was not all that useful for untapping mountains,and finding my 1 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is not reliable, so I'll swap them out for the 2 drop defender Gatecreeper Vine to get some more synergy with Axebane Defender and help with ht land drops (which I was was also missing far too often).
Xenagos, the Reveler. worked very will for mana ramping and as well as a distraction. Could use more if him in my budget allows.
mana191 was right in that the Cinder Elementals were too slow, not being able to sack them until a turn after, will probably swap them out for a Volcanic Geyser or more Arbor Colossus.
Also really need to get my hands on Polukranos, World Eater, he would make an excellent mana dump.
To extend the game long enough to pull off the big guys, I need some sort of control. So thought about Mizzium Mortars to keep my mana dorks alive longer,. Or see if I can pull off Spear of Heliod to help with defense or Bow of Nylea to dump mana to buff defenders for survivability?. Or Dragon Mantle to draw a card and at least scare off/kill larger guys with my defenders. So might have to drop Ruric Thar, the Unbowed if I keep adding more non-creature spells, but I like that he stops more shenanigans (but not bloodrush) and forces more creature vs creature battles.
But defender of akros is definitely fun once you get him out. 20/20 trample indestructible is about as good as it gets. Just gotta be mindful of control.
And I'll probably sideboard Mistcutter Hydra and add more Savageborn Hydras if I can find some. Simply more playable being able to add counters.
