This certainly isnt an archetype Id expect to land a pro tour spot, but am really happy to see it did. I think it really comes down to your ability to pilot this. Good job mate and congratulations! Ill be rooting for you.

Thanks Naksu! I'll definitely be making some changes, but I think it has a shot if I can correctly predict the meta.

I think so too. Have you considered a single copy of Plow Under ? It messes up draws for two turns if opponent cant shuffle. It could be a card to play around with and you shouldnt really have trouble casting it by turn 4 either.

Plow Under was more powerful in the standard or block ponza decks of yore, these days Primal Command is generally seen as better and even then not everyone runs it.

I see. Valid point.

I like having a couple copies of Thragtusk in the sideboard honestly.

December 8, 2017 1:37 p.m.

Nightwing690- Swagtusk is a good card, but the more I play this deck, the more I realize that keeping the curve down is really important. Against burn, I want faster sources of lifegain so I can get it down while they're still playing out creatures before they start holding up skullcrack. Against attrition decks, I like having Baloth and Colossus as trump cards. Finks made it in there as a smaller thrag really. Thrag is a great card though, and I don't fault anyone for using it.

I've been playing my ponza build against E Tron, BG Tron, Naya Burn, Mono Blue Control and Affinity (my friend has been playing since about 95 and has multiple playsets of modern staples so he gets to play all sorts of fun stuff) so that I can see a good variety and I completely agree with GeminiSpartanX. Having a lower curve for your early threats is super important. Congratulations of the pro tour spot man, that's awesome.

Thanks austinbromine97! Hopefully I'll do well enough to make day 2!

Hi there! I am not so good at playing Ponza decks (I am trying out one right now, maybe you can help me to improve it Ramp/Ponza), but I think you can play Molten Rain in this deck since you have Blood Moon

December 17, 2017 12:53 p.m.

AWOK1 - molten rain is a good card, but often you want to search out 2 forests early so you can operate under a blood moon easier. The double red in molten rain can be a liability sometimes. Also, with a blood moon in play you want to destroy basics that they find more than the mountains they have under a moon, so the damage isn't relevant. That makes stone rain just as good in most games.

Hi there!

Can you please explain to me, why do you play 9 fetchlands and 3 Tireless Tracker? I am very unexpirienced and really can't understand the synergy. And also is Deus of Calamity can be a card in such deck?

Thanks for replying,

And good luck

December 21, 2017 11:55 a.m.

AWOK1- Tireless Tracker and fetchlands work with each other to make sure this deck doesn't run out of cards later in the game. Against certain other decks (like Lantern Control), it can help save the game in some spots by drawing cards at instant-speed. Also it helps against black decks with Liliana of the Veil by drawing us cards so we have better choices if we need to discard. Since this deck makes so much mana, the cost of cracking the clues doesn't hinder the deck as much as it would in other decks. Sometimes landing an early threat like tracker helps more than blowing up lands on turn 2 like against control or combo decks, so having an early threat that grows can win some games. Tracker is just a really good card, and fetchlands mean you get 2 clues for drawing a single land (unless you have blood moon out of course).

Deus is a nice card, but most of the other creatures I use either impact the board the same turn they come into play, or have protection from a common removal color. Deus needs to live to your next turn in order to have any impact, so for a competitive deck like this it simply doesn't match up well compared to other options. If you don't play competitively, Deus could be fun to play though!

Thanks for your help

I am really interested in playing Ponza deck. And I wonder Why don't play Lotus Cobra, if you have so many fetchlands? Is it too slow?

Any updates on how your protour adventure is?

March 4, 2018 1:02 a.m.

hman4398- I ended up playing an Evolution list at pro tour RIX that you can see here. I lost my win-and-in for day 2 on the back of a poor draft. The losses I had in modern were due to people finding their answers for Blood Moon, otherwise I would have done better. Although Ponza is great at stealing wins in less-competitive events, people at the pro tour knew they would encounter blood moon decks and were prepared for them. I don't regret my choice to play the deck I did, since Blood Moon was a great counter to 5C Humans, Tron, and the various other 3C+ decks running around (the top 4 decks that won the PT either played Blood Moon in their 75 or didn't care about it too much). Maybe with the unbanning of BBE I'll give the newer lists a shot in the future, but for now I'm taking a break from Ponza to play some other decks that I want to play in Modern that I couldn't use before since I was always testing Ponza in preparation for the PT.
