Saw someone try a Capricious Hellraiser which got my attention a bit. I can see why no one plays it but started to wonder what kind of a deck could actually work with it. First thought was Ghired, Mirror of the Wilds to copy any token enchantments that the Hellraiser makes, and some sort of Surveil/self mill in Naya colors to fill the graveyard like Blossoming Tortoise and Conduit Pylons.
I like a Treasure generator like Generous Plunderer with Ghired. Turn 2 Plunderer, turn 3 treasure then Ghired then copy treasure twice ramps into 6 or 7 drops on turn 4.
Ghired-friendly big creatures I like Gruff Triplets and Calamity, Galloping Inferno. A good fit in the midrange is Urabrask's Forge, obvi. Terror of the Peaks is a power finisher combo with all the token copies.
I tried Caretaker's Talent because duh all the tokens, but I just got a bad vibe from it. The pacing feels wrong. This deck wants to blitz a bunch of big token copies in one turn, and the Talent isn't doing much with it. A card draw is fine, but the 3-cost part of the curve is already jammed with other cards that fit with the high speed nature of the deck. I ended up finding Nahiri, the Unforgiving does much better. It can be a 3-drop but gives value to wait an extra turn. It helps give some of the card draw function that Talent would give. And it can make more tokens from graveyard cards.
And it's a nice party trick when Ghired copies the tokens made from Nahiri or Calamity, those copies don't go away.
The rest of the deck is a bit random. But there are a few packages for different angles.
The noncreature cards I like for Hellraiser to copy are things like Season of the Burrow or Push / Pull or The World Spell. Of course Smuggler's Surprise does well with a Calamity/Terror deck and strangely it can fit with a Hellraiser copy in situations where you get the cheap cast on the Hellraiser that opens up mana to spend on the Spree costs on the Surprise.
On the self mill side, Fabled Passage and Volatile Fault are interesting Tortoise combos. Tortoise makes the Fault cost free, so you can generate a Treasure if you don't have a better land for the Tortoise to fetch. And then Ghired can copy the Treasure.
Charming Scoundrel makes two types of tokens, and having haste helps Ghired make more tokens. Haste in general is good for this deck and I'm going with Surrak and Goreclaw instead of Imodane's Recruiter but I've waffled a few times.
I like the blend of cards but it's way too loose and I don't have much of an idea what a tight version of the deck should be, but whatever.
