Rhys the Redeemed Tokens 3.1 update

Commander / EDH Convoke Elves GW (Selesnya) Tokens

brantsilvester

Your not-so-typical EDH token deck. This is an elf-tribal themed token-generation deck focused mostly on going wide at the end of my opponent's turn to off-set the natural board sweep weakness that typically devastates token decks.

This deck runs pretty lean and as such as very limited spot removal, hard ramp (because it's better for the strategy to have creatures ramp instead), and board wipes. Ultimately, I've optimized it to ensure that tokens curve well with my deck (e.g. turn 4 I should have 3/4 creatures) so I've avoided cards like Verdant Force and Hornet Queen which require many turns to generate even one token and they have no natural evasion.

The latest iteration of the deck is focused on using Priest of Titania, Elvish Archdruid, or Wirewood Channeler to generate infinite mana with Umbral Mantle or Staff of Domination. I've have added a couple of card draw elements to smooth the deck out that appear to work well in my meta (because Priest/Archdruid/Rhyss will often get killed with spot removal).

The strategy has somewhat changed due to how well elves synergize with tokens and the goal is to make it as efficient and curved as possible. The most ideal scenario is to have a mana dork or two, generate at least 2-ish tokens (hopefully by turn 4 or 5), and tutor for Regal Force with Eladamri's Call, Fierce Empath, or ideally Natural Order to draw cards. The hope is that Priest or Archdruid can be cast at the end of your last opponent's turn (unless you have Concordant Crossroads out) so you get the chance to untap. From there, you should have quite a few cards and all of the mana you need. Strong finishers are Craterhoof Behemoth, Finale of Devastation, Mirror Entity, Coat of Arms but realistically if you have resolved Staff of Domination you can draw your deck, generate infinite tokens, and resolve Concordant Crossroads to finish. Some other cards can be finishers if you have enough tokens but are mostly present because of their dual purpose like: Eldrazi Monument (for protection from board-sweeps), Camaraderie (predominantly for card draw), and Umbral Mantle (for infinite mana).

How this deck answers board sweeps is typically by either protecting the board with reactive spells like: Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention, or Akroma's Will; generating a large amount of mana with Cryptolith Rite, Ashnod's Altar, Priest of Titania/Elvish Archdruid to resolve a mass token generator spell (March of the Multitudes, Secure the Wastes, or Decree of Justice); after the board sweep.

Feedback is definitely appreciated.
