Riding the Cinder Wind

Standard Aggro UR (Izzet)

zarjamar

Howdy! It's been a while since I've tried doing some deck brewing, so I thought I'd work the brain a bit to get the cobwebs off. :P

The deck is centered around the idea of abusing the heck out of Adeliz, the Cinder Wind, capable of making your Wizards threats at the blink of an eye. Ideally, you'll be able to stall and build until you reach the point that you can take out your opponent in one or two turns.

Despite the focus on Wizards, Smelt-Ward Minotaur was a bit of a no brainer, able to get some extra milage out of using those Instants and Sorceries by locking down blockers. For evasion, Wee Dragonauts felt like an easily obvious choice, able to double dip on the Instants and Sorceries with Adeliz boosting them as well. Between the three of them, you could make quick work of your opponents easily. Toss in some Ghitu Lavarunners for early hits and Murmuring Mystics to add more threats to the board and that should put our creature base on good standing.

For spells, I'm heavily considering both Wizard's Lightning and Wizard's Retort since a majority of my creatures will be Wizards anyway. Opt will be key for filtering and card advantage, so a play set of that is going to be necessary. I also like the fact that Warlord's Fury can make absolute beasts out of these wizards, especially if Adeliz is on the board to take advantage of it, and you might find it hard to argue with that extra draw. Beacon Bolt ends up being a huge threat for 3 with the sheer amount of Instants and Sorceries we plan on using plus that Jump-Start means it can come back and backhand from the graveyard.

That said, I'm certainly not used to these kind of decks and I'm concerned that my scope may be far too narrow. I did consider Erratic Cyclops and Crackling Drake for creatures along with other spells like Ionize, Divination, Smelt, or Shock, but was having problems deciding where they would fit in. Should I try to make room? Should I give greater consideration to the Izzet Locket? The only card I'm really attached to is Adeliz, but I understand if a 4-of her is a little overkill. Thanks for the assistance!
