I built this deck and found that Jhessian Balmgiver works nicely in it. Only using 1 of her though. As does Grasp of the Hieromancer.Been debating about putting in Spectral Shepherd and Drogskol Cavalry, as spectral would let you replay Topplegeist and Rattlechains for their effects which would also play well with Drogskol.

Nice deck. Reminds me of an esper spirit token deck that I built as my very first deck.

If you want to make this deck as competitive as possible, you need to take out some "win-more" cards: Angel of Flight, Promise of Burei, Call to the Kindred, etc.

There are also couple weak cards like Kami of False Hope, which are ultimately a 1/1 and could have had more impact (and even save more life) if it was something else entirely.

Notice that some of your cards lack synergy: Geist of Saint Traft has Hexproof in a deck that focuses on protecting all other creatures. Likewise, cards like Lingering Souls would be a fantastic boost to the power of this deck, but the whole point of Lingering Souls is to make the opponents' removal as redundant as possible (i.e Drogskoll Captain seems pointless). The solution? Well it's not straightforward. It's just something you have to think about. Cards like Rattlechain is pretty cool but its only useful target is protecting a Drogskoll Captain (and that's assuming you have the mana open at the right time).

General rule of Modern is if you're going to play a "fair" deck, you want each individual card to have as much power as possible. Cards that meet this criteria but are also relatively budget friendly would be Midnight Haunting, Lingering Souls, Obzedat Ghost Council, etc. Obzedat would actually synergize well with most of your protective spirit cards, even if a 5 drop is a bit slow for modern. Still far better than Angel of Flight tho...

Cool deck! I have a few suggestions:

  • Drop Tranquil Cove, you don't want to be slowed down in an aggro deck, so I would suggest 4x Glacial Fortress, 4xPrairie Stream or 4x Port Town, they are all fairly cheap and way better then cove.

  • I don't know if you want to keep it a bit on budget, but Cavern of Souls is awesome in a tribal deck.

  • Detention Sphere is not a bad card, but lower cost, instant removal is better. Don't know if anyone suggested this one, but Path to Exile is the best removal in modern probably. I know it's expensive for an uncommon, but once you have a playset, you can run it in many other decks. Sort of an investment :D Otherwise, I would suggest Condemn. You can also consider Azorius Charm, it can act as delay, card draw or life restoring and having an option is always good!

Any thought to Deadeye Navigator? I understand it's a little costly, but it would allow you to bounce your Rattlechains and Topplegeist effectively triggering their abilities as much as needed.

CaputStercoris I do think it's a little too costly, considering most of the cards in this deck cost less than 3 mana.

+1 for a fellow modern spirit runner! I think you can make more money with your Tallowisps with an aura toolbox approach. I'd bump their number up to four and run defensive auras like Prison Term over Detention Sphere (which you can't get with the wisps). You can get pretty crazy with the aura combos like Arcanum Wings + Eldrazi Conscription or Pariah + Spirit Mantle on a Geist of Saint Traft.
Feel free to check out my spirit deck and plagiarize some if you want. Hot Traft on Traft Action

Since you want to be dropping your best creatures on turn 3, and you're not running AEther Vial, I would recommend dropping Detention Sphere for some cheaper removal. Path to Exile is always nice, although it does cost quite a bit. Remand is another option.

Great deck. One of my favorites on this site. Have you thought about inserting Port Town in the land base?

Spell Queller. Also, I'm unconvinced of the viability of Azorius Herald for lifegain, especially mainboard.

Feels like running Call to the Kindred without a big nasty spirit like Drogskol Reaver to cheat in with it kind of makes it lackluster so I'd consider trying to run 4x call and 4x reaver one more time otherwise I'd remove call as most of the time I feel like I'd just be searching for traft or your captains which is still good but they're CMC is already quite low to the ground.

A similar deck a friend of mine runs has a creature base made that is very similar yet more concentrated around Kindred to ensure reaver everytime. And although he may not synergise with the spirit theme, Invisible Stalker is hex/unblockable so you could use Curiosity as a method of card draw if you wanted to run more enchants. What fits the theme and can be quite useful is Selfless Spirit.

So, in the end I do have a vision of what cards I'd remove from this deck to include these suggestions but it all depends on your interest and card preferences but if you're not interested in the reaver, I'd remove kindred completely

If you need a cheap land you can replace Azorius Chancery with something cheaper like Port Town or Prairie Stream

Maybe Moorland Haunt would fit this deck? In lategame, you must have quite a few creatures in GY.

Also, given that you have many creatures with low cmc, a single Ojutai's Command could be useful.

Landcount seems a bit on the low end. You need 2 more lands or so, just to be sure to hit your landdrops in the early game.
