To start, thanks for your comments and voting this into a T/O Top Deck!!
This deck is super fun to play and operates completely unlike any standard decks I've played so far. The goal: fill up that graveyard and bury your opponent under a mountain of your creatures corpses. The engine of this deck is in our 12 dredgers Satyr Wayfinder+Grisly Salvage+Commune with the Gods. These ensure we hit our land drops and pile tons of creatures into our graveyard. Deathrite Shaman is at his best here, fixing mana and doling out deaths by exiling our spells and lands.. Just don't touch those corpses cause the deck won't work.. Okay, you can touch those corpses if you have your heart set on it.
From here, it isn't difficult to cast a t3
Nemesis of Mortals
or Nighthowler and
Herald of Torment
to get in one good hit for 10-12 dmg. A second attack could win the game but what do I do now that they've d-sphered my Lotleth Troll leaving me a non evasive Nighthowler against their active Thassa, God of the Sea??
"Well Me, I'm glad you asked." This is where Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord comes in. He's almost a free creature in our dredging scheme by choosing any other threat over him and putting him in the grave. Sac two lands to bring him to hand and we've a game ending answer to board stalls. His 1GB ability kills by throwing the 10/10 corpse of nemesis or nighthowler. A corpse like that to the face is no joke. With a deck that can consistently play and monstrous nemesis on t4, swing for 10 sac for 10? Yes please and thank you.
Our removal comes in the form of 2 Shadowborn Demons and one Putrefy. Shadowborn sticks around after his dirty work is done more often than not.
So much putrid, corpsey, desiccated goodness.
Help me tune the deck further. I've recently replaced 2 Elvish Mystic for 2
Gladecover Scout
because I found myself wanting a target for herald and howler that was as durable as Lotleth Troll and found my mana surprisingly consistent for running only 20 lands (more so than my u/w/x running 27 at any rate).
Now to break down this eulogy.
Commune with the Gods - dredger
Deathrite Shaman - mana fixing and ping damage. Tended to equate to 4-6 dmg a game. Great vs burn as the life gain essentially countered two or three burn spells.
Gladecover Scout
- a resilient target for Herald and Maude.
Grisly Salvage - to salvage grizzlies
Herald of Torment
- sends Jarad, Nemesis, and Nighthowlere aka Maude over the top. Also resilient threat that sticks around.
Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord - he lords and such. A huge and resilient threat that sacs out other huge and resilient threats for direct damage.
Lotleth Troll - a huge and resilient threat. Also an engine to send our unwanted dorks to the grave.
Nemesis of Mortals
- a less resilient but still huge threat. With all the corpses he rarely costs more than GG to cast and GG to monstrous.
Nighthowler AKA Maude - Im in love this homely little lady but the only howling I heard was from opponent as I swung for 12/sac for 12.
Putrefy - it's nice to start with or draw into this one of removal spell. The GB mana cost is less taxing on our mana base and it's versatility optimizes utility. Also, Shadowborn Demon can't hit
Desecration Demon
. That said, not a huge deal to dredge past this spell.
Satyr Wayfinder - gets lands in our hand and corpses in our van.. Err, graveyard.
Shadowborn Demon - our decks reliable removal. With all the ways to filter through the deck, it's easy to find one when you need it.
Sylvan Caryatid - resilient mana fixing. Fine to start with, easy to dredge past.
