If you want unblockable, you could play Shadow Slice , but its up to you. Also depends on weather or not your going up against another Aggro deck or not

that card would work good but the mana cost is just way too high. this deck only runs 20 lands so putting in a 5 mana cost card just doesn't seem logical. Besides Liliana's Caress with Liliana of the Veil on the board is the real star of the show. All the extra -1's are just a bonus.

I thought so too, but with everything else so low, I think you could probably pull it off. Its a nice deck though +1

yea, i've wanted a Liliana deck since I pretty much started getting into magic. I think I'll fine tune the hell out of this thing then buy it.

Thanks. Still needs a little work though

Narwek says... #8

But with all the dual and tri color decks out right now, i usually have many unblockable creatures

Only thing I would suggest is run 4 of Puresteel Paladin instead of 2

Narwek says... #10

Yep. Still want to do that, just to lazy and tired right now to change the mana base too :)

Shrieking Affliction is a good alternative to The Rack ; it's a fair bit cheaper and the modern-frame version of The Rack is annoyingly difficult to find.

you could always use things like Raven's Crime and other cards that can benefit from being in the graveyard so that liliana doesn't hurt you with her +1. I also reccomend something to do with.

Dakmor Salvage works nicely if you do use Raven's Crime , and gives you something to discard easily when you need your other things in hand, particularly if you have Phyrexian Arena out.

Invisible Stalker is a good choice for unblockable, particularly if you find something to do with the unblockable. He can also block, which is something your current creatures can not do.

Isochron Scepter could also potentially help with getting constant discards.

Morokai says... #13

*the stalker might not be the best choice if you don't want to splash in blue, though.

Unblockable is fun, but unfortunately none of them can block. That means your Liliana of the Veil is left undefended and without a way to defend herself. Sure, she can edict your opponent, and you have some other edict effects, but that may not be enough on turn three when you drop her and can only edict once. You don't want to have to be choosing between whether you can pump her up or need to edict down, and some turns you won't be able to edict with her ability if you have to rely on it for defense.

Point is, you need some kind of defense. Either more targeted removal, or better, resilient blockers.

Maybe sideboard the Inkfathom Infiltrator and mainboard in 4x Doom Blade .

Maybe Augur of Skulls to chump, with regenerate, and even sac to move the discard along faster.

Maybe Drudge Skeletons for cheap chumping and regenerate.

Maybe Blood Scrivener to give you even more draw power and to trade or chump if you desperately need it.

Maybe Cemetery Reaper to steal from their grave to fuel your field and protect your Liliana, and to assault them.

Maybe Guul Draz Assassin to possibly chump, or to sink extra mana and get him to reliably kill off their creatures.

Dark Confidant

Ooooh, the Isochron Scepter is a brilliant suggestion. Either put Dash Hopes on it for constant counters or life-eating, or Geth's Verdict to keep getting rid of their creatures, or Surgical Extraction to steal everything discarded from their library and graveyard.

yea, if I didn't have to splash, Stalker would be beyond perfect. Really want to keep it Mono black.

Isochron Scepter might work, but what would I take out for it?

Truthfully, at first I had tons and tons of discard cards in this hand and through playtests discovered that most of them just sit in my hand because the opponent already has no hand. I want something else along the lines of Liliana's Caress to make this deck get the kill faster.

Morokai says... #17

if there is anything to take out, it would probably be Tormented Soul .

if you had the mana, you could even use Bloodgift Demon to make opponents draw cards just to discard them. you could also use Sign in Blood for this purpose. there is also Bloodchief Ascension if you can cause enough life loss.

Painful Quandary for some late game pain if you can afford it.

there is also Deathrite Shaman to make use of those discarded cards. can't use the green part, but you can still kill someone with it.

yea, totally going to add Dark Confidant to this deck along with Verdant Catacombs & Marsh Flats . Then I'll totally win! Nigrescence

Originally I did have Avatar of Woe since casting it early would be no problem at all but took it out because the deck has enough removal as is. Thoughtseize + Surgical Extraction means I can take out a ton of threats, and not just the immediate, a full playset for 1 mana & 2 life, turn 1.

I have Liliana's -2 & Geth's Verdict on top of that.

I would like to work in Isochron Scepter for the above reason, being able to cast any of the above or Dash Hopes every turn would be quite the defense for the frustrating slow death.

I probably would put in Dismember or Tribute to Hunger rather than Doom Blade if I wanted to go that route.

Truthfully, Liliana doesn't need defense, have no intention of blocking with her. & if she is removed, so what. lol

Wanted to make this deck with no creatures at all so I could play Damnation at no consequence.

Would put in Ghastlord of Fugue but mana cost is too high :/

APPLE01DOJ says... #19

lol Morokai those all happen to be cards I had in here originally and decided against.

I really wanted Deathrite Shaman in but figured for sure damage was better than possible damage. I hope that those of you that keep telling me to take out the non-block creatures that they are pretty much automatic damage each round that they are on the board.

APPLE01DOJ says... #20

Actually, I want to work in Sign in Blood

July 17, 2013 11:41 p.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #21

pookypuppy6 The Rack hits earlier than Shrieking Affection as it'll still do damage if the player has up to 2 cards in hand.

Smallpox is really good and Phyrexian Obliterator is better than the other creature. Dash Hopes is a really bad card, you might find that Inquisition of Kozilek and Dismember are better. if you want to shell the money, Dark Confidant would be devastating in this deck.

July 18, 2013 12:24 a.m.

APPLE01DOJ says... #23

what makes Dash Hopes bad? I only intend to use it for the counter effect.

Small Pox is okay, would just use Death Cloud or Damnation if I wanted to go that route.

I already own 3x Obliterator, so it wouldn't cost anything to add.

IoK just sits in hand usually. :/

well Phyrexian Arena combined with the use of Thoughtseize and optional use of Surgical Extraction already run my life dangerously low. Dark Confidant would simply kill me too quick. This deck depends on -1 and -2 to get the win if it can't get stuff on the board.

July 18, 2013 12:41 a.m.

miracleHat says... #24

the problem with Dash Hopes is that if people just take the five life, then you just lost a card and they still get to play whatever they are casting and you shouldn't be caring about their life total until you know that there is no way that they can win (which is why you might want to also drop Piranha Marsh ). i understand why you don't want to use Dark Confidant , but if not him, Wurmcoil Engine to gain some of the lost life (and a great beater). since this is a control deck, you might find that a turn four Damnation is essential against any creature based deck.

"Truthfully, Liliana doesn't need defense, have no intention of blocking with her. & if she is removed, so what. lol "

You don't block with her. Players can attack her just as they can attack you. You would have to use creatures to block for her, just as you would have to use creatures to block for you.

That's why planeswalkers need defenses, and if she is removed, there goes a big engine part of your entire deck. You should care, or this deck is just bad.
