It comes from my current meta-experience. As I said in my update post I was currently facing creature heavy decks and only few controlish decks. Against control you can side out the 2 Doom Blade and 1 Hero's Downfall . It's unlikely you get to snipe a AEtherling or Obzedat, Ghost Council if the know what they're doing. For that you side in Underworld Connections to be able to keep up with their Sphinx's Revelation and either Fade into Antiquity (against UWR Control with Purphoros/Assemble combo) or Erebos, God of the Dead (for even more CA and a way to stop their Sphinx).
I know my deck needs some time to get rolling. But I usually get one Sylvan Caryatid out by T2, with an Abrupt Decay or Doom Blade that buys me enough time to stabilize. Against fast decks the question is can they kill me before I stabilize if they don't they lose. But aggro-decks always race. If played correctly and given that I make the right draws, I shouldn't have a bad matchup. Even against my next opponent Purphoros, God of Devotion I'd rate it 50/50.

I could fill a whole evening talking about why Thoughtseize shouldn't be run in the main alongside Read the Bones . Let's just say: I have it in the sb to disrupt certain decks. I'll put it in against G/W or any deck that runs Blood Baron of Vizkopa as a main win-con, maybe againt UWX control. I don't want to run it main in the current meta, because the 2 life lost is a huge drawback. We'll have to see how the meta develops, but as it currently is, I don't want to run Thoughtseize MB.

FINALLY. An actual fucking Rock deck that actually somewhat resembles a fucking rock deck.
My only suggestions are Deathrite Shaman or Scavenging Ooze over Sylvan Caryatid . And I'd run a singleton Varolz, the Scar-Striped over Hythonia the Cruel .
+1

Replace Fade into Antiquity with Artisan's Sorrow ...
Other than that, I love it!
September 29, 2013 2:33 a.m.
If I replaced Fade into Antiquity it'd be with Golgari Charm . But there is a key-difference between Fade and Golgari Charm respectively Artisan's Sorrow: Exile. It's mainly in the SB to hit opponent Gods, if they happen to become a problem.

@ Degonvey sorry forgot to comment on your suggestion: I was toying aroun with the idea of putting in DRS or Ooze but the thing I love so much about the Caryatid is: She can block 2/x all day long and I can drop a T3 DD. Varolz isn't really an option because it interfers quite heavily with my Whip, plus I have no trampler who really benefits from +1/+1 counters. You could go down another road with Golgari, playing lol-troll etc. But that's not the aim of my deck. Plus I love Hythonia flavor-wise (and I just pulled her out of my display) and she already has won me a game.

Hey, I just stumbled upon this deck and I really like it! I'm also trying to build a rock deck for this standard, I think that there are a lot of useful pieces for it.
How useful has Hythonia the Cruel been for you? She seems a bit unwieldy, and without the mana to make her monstrous, a 4/6 deathtouch for 6 seems a bit lackluster.
October 2, 2013 10:15 a.m.
Hi Krayhaft, I mainly play her flavorwise, but she has already won me some games, too. I see her as a finisher, somewhat along the lines of Kalonian Hydra (but not as vulnerable to removal, though a Kalonian coming from the grave with whip is nasty business). Blow everything else up and attack for 7. I do get your point though. If you replaced her, which creature would you take?
October 2, 2013 10:22 a.m.
Actually, with my deck I was toying around with the idea of splashing white, for Blood Baron of Vizkopa . Replacing Hythonia and something else for ~2x BBV, and some amount of basic forest and swamps for Temple Garden /Godless Shrine . It maybe taxing on life, but the way I see it, BBV can get that life back for you, and it can be cast off of Sylvan Caryatid as well.
But, if you wanted a strictly B/G replacement for Hythonia, I would probably just replace her with another kill spell or Read the Bones , or even Boon Satyr .
October 2, 2013 10:32 a.m.
Nah, I don't want to splash white.
I had Read the Bones as a 4-of and realized 3 are enough most of the time, need to keep an eye on my life-total. Boon Satyr could be a nice addition, I will give it some thought!
October 2, 2013 10:57 a.m.
No problem!
Also, a few more points:
Whip of Erebos is an interesting card here. I like what it provides, however it's in the same CMC slot as Desecration Demon and Reaper of the Wilds , and to me it seems like a card that does nothing by itself the turn it hits the battlefield. How useful has it been?
What do you think of Lotleth Troll
in here? It goes against the theme of rock, but it can grow to become a 4/3 or larger, easily. It survives board wipes and most targeted removal, and can help you survive early game.
October 2, 2013 11:40 a.m.
The Whip of Erebos is amazing! The lifegain is awesome (and really needed) and the tap-ability is especially great with Gray Merchant of Asphodel . I now my 4-drop-slot is a bit clumped. But I've produced some great results so far.
I was considering Lotleth Troll but I don't feel motivated to discard a DD or Reaper to add a +1/+1 counter to it :-/
October 2, 2013 11:46 a.m.
Yeah having to discard guys to lotleth to pump him is kind of bad, but lotleth synergizes with whip and discarding a merchant to fuel him feels good. The only problem is finding spots for him in a deck like this.
If you don't mind, would you mind taking a look at my standard deck that I'm planning out? I'm also running G/B, but as it currently is I have a lower curve, as well as the white splash for BBV. Maybe we can collaborate.
October 2, 2013 2:12 p.m.
@ KrayhaftThanks for suggestion Boon Satyr ! In the aggressive environment we are at the beginning of this Standard season he proves very useful. And the look on your opponents face is just priceless if you flash the satyr infront of his BBV :D
October 3, 2013 9:22 a.m.
No problem! Boon Satyr can jump in front of BBV, hop on a reaper and mooch off her hexproof, or just act like an Advent of the Wurm during the opponent's EoT. I'm trying it out in my deck as well.

I like Fade into Antiquity because it removes the indestructible gods from the game. Destroy spells will not work against any of the new gods, they must be exiled.

I would say almost too much removal, if that's possible. Basically all the games my hand got clogged with kill spells, and having to sit there and wait for creatures to appear. You got a little lucky that you were playing such a slow deck.
