you should add some Ratchet Bomb in the sideboard since when your playing against elf deck they get lots of creature out that cost 1 mana so bomb is pretty good to get rid of them

@saranghae314: Thanks dude! That's finally a great suggestion. I was planning to remove Jace, Memory Adept and replace it with 1xSurgical Extraction in the main deck. I will replace 1x mayboboard's Surgical Extraction with 1xRatchet Bomb !
Thanks! :)

So here's a question, not really about the deck though...
Where did you get that picture of the faded "House Dimir" guild symbol. I'd love to get that as a custom playmat, but I don't want WOTC looming over me in the case of copyright laws...

Hi @Historian1447! I found that image in this page: http://www.crossroadgames.net/edh-maze-runner-3-dimir/ , searching on Google for "House Dimir" :)

Awesome, thanks @borto1412!! And a follow up question, what about the one above that, with Lazav on it?

I built a modern mill deck and let me say that Archive Trap is currently the best mill card in the format. With the need for fetches in any deck in the format, it is usually a mill 13 for 0. Also you should add Ghost Quarter in your lands. It helps deal with your opponents man lands and can help set off the Archive Trap trigger.

Mazzo stupendo, great deck! I also have a mill one but it's based on tokens with Undead Alchemist ! +1 from me!

Hey man, always love to see mill decks in modern (I play one myself that's dimir colored and wins on turns 3-5). I don't really know if you're working with a budget or not but, if you're not... think about using Snapcaster Mage? It's an expensive way of saying to your opponent you're going to flashback your Glimpse the Unthinkable or Mind Funeral (which just happens to work very well for me if your match goes past turn 5).
You should maybe consider Archive Trap like CrimsonKing suggested because I highly recommend it. The amount of searching that goes on in modern really makes Archive Trap quite possibly one of the best cards for mill as you can cast it for 0 if your opponent searches early game. Also consider running the Archive Trap + Ghost Quarter combo as you can force your opponent to search as well (I personally love the combo because I've ended up many times in matches with 3x Archive Trap and a Ghost Quarter in hand turn 1 and it's just a very nasty thing to do to mill your opponent for 39 cards turn 1). If you're contemplating taking things out for this combo I would suggest maybe trying to take out your 4x Sunken Ruins and 2x Breaking for 3x Ghost Quarter and 3x Archive Trap. Sunken Ruins is nice for what it does but that's one Swamp or Island you could have spent tapping for something like an extra Glimpse the Unthinkable floating in your hand. You know what I mean?!
Fetchlands I'm not very fond of in dual-colored decks because you're better off using them in tribal-colored decks that use a lot of shocklands whereas in dual-colored decks you can use basic lands which are faster drops.
That Artful Dodge + Consuming Aberration combo nice and is always an old favorite. You have a nice shell for your mill. I hope I could enlighten you on some nice information man!

Awesome deck, but can you give a estimate for the price?
January 2, 2015 6:33 a.m.
@Haushinka - The estimate reads approximately: $272.89

Well, I think you can replace the Sunken Ruins with islands and swamps if you want to save some money, I don't find them so useful in this deck. The only card that is really expensive but worth it is Glimpse the Unthinkable. The only budget alternative I can think of is Memory Sluice (as all the other ones are already in)

Not sure, but isn't Deathrite Shaman banned for modern? Anyways, this is a great intro to mill! I bet this will help me a lot when I build mine!

I think you did an excellent job at explaining your strategy with this deck. I've been trying to build a deck, specifically a mill deck since I first started investing money into the game, which was about seven years ago; but I didn't have any idea what kind of strategy or themes I should focus on aside from the concept of milling itself. I just recently found your deck through google along with the other one, and built my own deck--after buying some singles that I needed; based a little on your deck and the other tappedout deck I had found. Since it was only just recently that I "completed" building my deck (could use some tweaking still); and found out that some of my friends now played Magic; I've only had two opportunities to try out my deck. In the one match that I won, the Artful Dodge + Consuming Aberration combo helped me win the match, which I would have lost on my friend's next turn. Anyways, your strategy was easy to understand and your explanations on why you picked certain cards for your deck helped me when I was constructing my own deck. Thanks for posting this and putting so much thought and time into explaining it. :)

Hello dude!
I have to admit it: your deck was really helpfull in inspiring my mill deck, i had it built since a while but i needed that "something more" that i found here, thanks! :)
Playtesting my deck, and yours, here on Tapped Out i found out that they suffer from the "all lands/no lands in hand" syndrome. I can have 5 to 6 lands in my opening hand or just 1... Counting that i am running 22 lands and not 50 or 10 it is somewhat strange. Same thing happened playing with my friends, luclky just a few times.
So, the question is: do you have the same lands problem or i am just unlucky? Thanks again ;)

@MoosemastheDestroyer: Yes, I thought about Snapcaster Mage, but I did not view that as a useful card in my deck, because I already have a lot o mill cards (15) and I'll probably have another Glimpse the Unthinkable/Mind Funeral/Breaking in my hand.Reguarding Archive Trap yes, I tried that and I'll edit my deck this month... I just have to choose what to remove ;). Thanks for the comment!
@Minelia5: You're right! I forgot the "X"!! Thanks!
@Dunquixote: Thank you so much for the commeent, and thanks for the compliments :). I'm glad you appreciate the work behind this page and the deck itself! Thanks!
@Jack90: Wow, your deck is inspired by mine. That's an honor, thanks! :).Regarding the land problem... Yeah, I think it is just lack of luck... Maybe you can try to insert/remove 2/3 lands and add some creature in order too see if something changes, but generally I think you have been unlucky! Good luck!! ;)

-4 Jace's Phantasm +4 Snapcaster Mage the phantasm doesn't help you mill cards and it won't get any stronger after it gets that +4/+4 bonus. With snapcaster you can recast any instant or sorcery in your graveyard. Also you need Archive Trap This card does some heavy milling, even if your opponent doesn't search their library for a card (which is highly unlikely) you can still hard cast for 5 and mill them a whopping 13 cards!

Aqueous Form is a lot better than Artful Dodge as it gives your creature unblockable for he rest of the game. The only scenario in which Artful Dodge is better is when you want to give different creatures unblockable, and you only target Consuming Aberration.
March 25, 2015 9:36 a.m.
Flyers167: Probably it is, but I prefer the Flashback ability rather than "for the rest of the game ;).

Hey dude, sweet deck, and epic description, just a quick question, how did you get the text bigger? And how did you make the text bent sideways? A suggestion: Psychic Strike and Nephalia Drownyard? Psychic Strike being both counterspell and mill. And Nephalia Drownyard cheap (price) and mill, as well as mana.
March 31, 2015 2:32 p.m.
Do you really want to win by swinging with an unblockable Consuming Aberration? It is much less satisfying then staring at your opponent's empty library.
I envision [[Ashiok, nightmare weaver]] being the best mill threat. It mills, and kills, and sometimes pops out neat creatures or exiles your opponents hand and graveyard. I think I should make an Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver + Ensnaring Bridge + One with Nothing derp deck.

Awesome description. +1. How did you make everyone write in italics?

@Headers13: That's finally a good idea. Didn't play MTG since a while, so I didn't know the "bestow", but that's finally very good. I'm going to try that in playtest, maybe I can put two of them into my deck. Thanks!
@epajula: Thanks for the comment! :)
@EddCrawley: I tried that when I first playtested this deck 1 year ago, but I felt it was slower. Thanks anyway!
@beardedginger: Thanks for the appreciate and the comment. I think that in a deck similar (but not equal!) to this one it is an awesome combo. I don't know why but I see it as a good card in a inusual Black-Blue-Green deck ;)
@Enyeto: Thanks! I added it to my list!
