Syncopate does work in that sense, but over all Essence Scatter saves mana. That's not to say you can't use both.

I was just curious if you were saying bring in more from the sideboard to replace OTHER counters. and use them alongside the Syncopate s

I have also removed Staff of Nin from the main as this rarely ever helped. I'm thinking of replacing it with Rakdos Keyrune . I need to make room for another main deck Devour Flesh . Thoughts?

I'm thinking of using Dimir Keyrune instead of Rakdos Keyrune ...
Rakdos PROs - First strike can take down A LOT of creatures in this format. Plus leaving my blue mana up for Think Twice or counter magic is always a plus
Dimir PROs - being able to add another blue source is great for me to help fix mana problems, AND it has the added benefit to being unblockable once reanimated to push through the final damage after a Master of Cruelties trigger.

To help with the mana of a tri color deck, you should make room for 1 or 2 Chromatic Lantern

I tried that before almerican but they were HORRIBLE top deck cards. I wouldn't get them when I wanted them, and getting them late sucks.
I'm thinking I need 2 x more Sulfur Falls and remove 2 x Dragonskull Summit s as a starter....

actually harrydemon117 chromatic lantern is great in a deck that runs cards such as bolas, even late game u need all the ramp u can get in order to hard cast bolas.
check out my Bolas Meat-Bones for some idea's on how to make bolas even more terrifying.

I agree bman5604 but I currently don't have room for it. What would you suggest I take out instead?

I thought of an interesting combo between izzet staticaster + erebos, god of the dead. Death touch + ping seems good. Plus ral zarek using his untap, gives izzet stat more than one usefuleness.

How does he give deathtouch? He draws you a card by paying 2 life (which may be bad when adding in shocklands and Thoughtseize extra life cost). He cancels out lifegain nicely, but I don't see that playing into effect for a little while

I thought about Steam Augury , however Jace, Architect of Thought still gives me some cards AND adds to the devotion for Thassa, God of the Sea quite nicely.
Originally, I was building this as a "combo/control" deck with lots of removal and counterspells, but I FEEL as though midrange would be a better build. I can still use removal/counterspells, just give up a little of them for some more threats to close the game out faster.
If I were to put 1 or 2 of Steam Augury in, what would you suggest instead of Jace?

I'd also like to fit in 2 x Lifebane Zombie in the sideboard as he would be a good follow up after Master of Cruelties also against a non black deck...thoughts?

I have to think on it. Ping me later today so I can remember, unless I've replied. I've been going over the set myself, but mainly with limited as my focus. I'm stuck on my goals for constructed, grixis and esper control are the focus but I think there is room for jund control also. The jund one revolving around hand destruction and gy hate in the form of drs and ooze with Stormbreath Dragon as a finisher.

Why the focus on graveyard hate? Reanimator wont' be around anymore and Snapcaster Mage is going the way of Bilbo/Frodo Baggins. Not to mention Flashback will be gone too.
I can see Deadbridge Chant becoming a think for midrange, but that may take awhile to have a successful build due to it being a 6 CMC
September 20, 2013 10:05 a.m.
Whip of Erebos , Rescue from the Underworld , Angel of Serenity , Deadbridge Chant , the murder king and a few other cards like this will make reanimator a thing, But I'm not aiming on hating reanimator as much as using their cards against them in an abstract way.
September 20, 2013 10:16 a.m.
Think of it as using, Thoughtseize , Rakdos's Return , Duress , drs and ooze for maximum value and synergy.

@gufymike:
Did you think anymore on what to put in for Steam Augury ?
September 23, 2013 8:08 a.m.
I did and think 2x Frostburn Weird can come out. you have enough of an early game with removal to protect you. Also, personally, I like 4x Dissolve over 2x and 2x Syncopate , but I love hard counters more than the X ones that give them the choice (though I'm a big fan of Power Sink because it forces them to pay).

the two best midrange cards for B/U imo are Desecration Demon and Nightveil Specter I can't go into more detail why right now but nightveil is great for getting to quick devotion to blue. I will give more detailed suggestions when I have more time.

Thanks Jp3ngu1nb0y!
You don't think that Syncopate would be good vs aggro decks? I mean, they are going to tap out for the creature anyway right? What is the value of using Essence Scatter over another counter, or are you saying ADD it and take out something else?
