A Budget take on the Jeskai Ascendancy + Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper
Combo.
The basic strategy is is to have Jeskai Ascendancy + Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper
on the field. Then cast a spell (preferably a draw spell) using the land(s) you are goings to awake or have awaken. It enters the stack.
Jeskai Ascendancy
's and Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper's first abilities are triggered. Put
Jeskai Ascendancy
's ability on the stack on top the spell and then put Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper's ability on top of
Jeskai Ascendancy
's.
Multiple Abilities Trigger Rule
Show
When the same event triggers multiple triggered abilities, the controllers of the abilities decide what order to place them on the stack, in APNAP (active player first, then non-active player) order. (Rule 603.3b)
The result is the tapped land becomes a 3/3 creature, it untaps and gets +1/+1. Repeat awakening a new land each time. Keep drawing until you can clear the field with either
Radiant Flames
or
Planar Outburst and swing for lethal.
-
Jeskai Ascendancy + Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper
: Combo Pieces.
-
Clutch of Currents
,
Crater's Claws: Removal for creatures with toughness>2-5.
-
Radiant Flames
: Mass Removal. Doesn't kill your creatues if they are at least 3/3 and you have a
Jeskai Ascendancy
, because they are buffed when you cast it.
-
Planar Outburst: Mass Removal. Kills
Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper so be careful when you cast it.
-
Fiery Impulse
: Usually it will be a
Lightning Bolt or
Shock except it doesn't target players.
-
Anticipate
,
Tormenting Voice,
Treasure Cruise
: Draw. Plain and simple.
-
Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper
+
Stubborn Denial
: 1CMC
Negate.
-
Learn from the Past
: For the long games, when you need to pull the combo multiple times, but you almost milled yourself. Also because I usually play casual games I try to include the sideboard in the main deck, so i don't have to constantly change cards.
- Leave a
open when casting
Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper so you can protect him with
Stubborn Denial until you can pull off the combo.
-
Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper triggers Ferocious.
- A 3/3 awakened land with
Jeskai Ascendancy
triggers Ferocious too.
-
Jeskai Ascendancy
's abilities stack with each other. So if you control 2x
Jeskai Ascendancy
your awaken lands will untap twice, get +2/+2 and you can draw and discard 2 cards.
- Casting a second second
Jeskai Ascendancy
will untap any awakened lands but won't create new ones.
-
Jeskai Ascendancy
's second ability draws a card. So if you run out of draw spells, you could use a burn spell to draw a card.
You have 3x
Anticipate
in hand and
2x
Jeskai Ascendancy
, an awakened Mountain and Island on the battlefield. You tap the lands and cast an
Anticipate
. They untap from the first
Jeskai Ascendancy
trigger. Before the second trigger resolves, you can tap the awakened lands again and get
. Now the lands are untapped and you have 4 potentional mana. But be careful because if you change phases or steps (like from Main Phase 1 to Battle Phase or Declare Attackers Step to Declare Blockers Step) you lose all your "floating" mana.
