Sideboard


This deck is for casual meta's and i have build it based around my own meta too, i could run all the amazing creature removal there is for example but if there are only combo decks then it doesnt do a lot. This deck is going to struggle with Elves,Goblin Aggro/Combo/Boardwipe after Boardwipe.

I tend to play 2 Roon builds, i either go token roon with Hornet Queen / Avenger of Zendikar / Captain of the Watch / Cathars' Crusade and run few removal/tutors/counterspells for a more chill,crazy and fun time or vs weaker decks.

Or we go for deck which includes more removal/tutors/protection and just focus on ending with Tooth and Nail / Craterhoof Behemoth and just out value our opponents. However this build is not always great versus newer players/people who just want to build big armies and chill/weaker decks.

Our meta is not a fan of infinite combo's so i am not running any of those.

Why wouldnt you play Brago over Roon ? For fun purposes! Roon doesnt have a big target on his head unlike Brago and you get acces to Green which is amazing for cards like Sylvan Library , Birds of Paradise , Bramble Sovereign , Craterhoof Behemoth , Avenger of Zendikar and all the creature tutors.


Goal is to slowly build up a board and start to get an insane ammount of value slowly over turns since you abuse every ETB a lot more than your opponents. The deck can also go fast, with a sol ring opener into wood elves or any ramp you could go into a fast big token producer + Deadeye Navigator or Hornet Queen followed by a Craterhoof Behemoth , it isnt Cedh level but again, this is more for casual meta's.

We can control the board with our removal and end with Craterhoof Behemoth or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite . Tooth and Nail is also a big win condition, especially if you tutor for Avenger of Zendikar + Craterhoof Behemoth . You can also end with a Living Plane combo which is described in the synergies section

Diluvian Primordial is sometimes in here for the fun, and it can generate alot of value too! but it can also become a copy fiesta and then you kinda regret playing it.

Im running Knight-Captain of Eos over Spike Weaver since he brings 3 bodies in play for Craterhoof Behemoth and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite , a friend of mine suggested this and it has actually been really nice, it also feels alot better to flicker Knight-Captain of Eos over Spike Weaver .

Rite of Replication for fun purposes, it goes in and out, you can cut it easily but for casual meta's its good fun.

Conjurer's Closet it felt so slow, it felt bad if you didnt really have a creature on the board that you wanted to flicker so you rather spend your mana on something else and then it just kept sitting in your hand, Venser, the Sojourner does the same but can also give unblockable for Craterhoof turns and possible be a win condition if you manage to get his ulti to go off.

Mistmeadow Witch There have been very few times where i was missing a better flicker and so she ended up not doing a lot unless i had no flicker machine which was not a lot and even then the 4 mana is really expensive, with enough draw you can not have a flicker machine on the board and still do great!

Sun Titan He is a big guy and instantly gets something back to your board if you have somthing small in your graveyard but my 3 CMC cards are not game winning cards so i dont mind it too much if they are in my graveyard so then i am paying 6 mana for a 6/6 body which isnt great :)

Deadeye Navigator Yes he is sometimes actually in the sideboard, too many times i did not want to spend 6 mana to cast him since i would instantly become the big target and low chance he survives and if i have more mana available i would rather cast draw spells/tutors to get to my craterhoof or Living plane + Linvala / Elesh Norn. You can still include him but be careful when you play him, make sure someone doesnt have a good army and will just fight you when they see this drop and your boardstate isnt good enough to deal with a number of attacks. Also try to play him with 8 mana so you can flicker him once if someone targets it with removal.

Duplicant is not in here since i have been fine so far with running this few ammount of creature removal in my meta, i try to lay low early game and just flicker a creature with Roon if it is attacking me and i dont have a blocker. So it was mostly stuck in my hand and i did not like how much mana it cost, if you start flickering it it isnt that bad but having to pay 6 mana for a creature removal feels bad when there is stuff like Path to Exile

Growing Rites of Itlimoc  , I am still testing it out, amazing if you have a board of course but does very few after a good boardwipe and it can take some time to get 4 creatures if you have to save your mana for removal/high cmc creatures in hand. If you play a decent ammount of token producers you should include this. If you have a Gaea's Cradle then its kinda nice for redundancy in token Roon.

Coiling Oracle , the card isnt bad but i tend to be fine draw wise most of the games thanks to a good ammount of tutors and the early draw creatures like Wall of Blossoms , the upside of coiling is that he can ramp you 1 further and he is allowed to attack for Craterhoof turns but most of the times im happier with the Walls since they can block a lot more and dont reveal the cards i draw.

Wooded Foothills and other fetches and the dual lands like Tropical Island if your budget allows it :)

Mana Crypt Fast mana is amazing for any deck!

Survival of the Fittest Amazing tutor card, its expensive and thats why i dont have it but you should run this if you have it! Cards like this up the powerlevel of the deck quite a bit though.

Mana Drain and Force of Will Great counterspells, one can potentially launch you far ahead and the others people dont always see coming.

Mulldrifter + Roon of the Hidden Realm , Cast Mulldrifter for his Evoke cost and then you flicker him in response to his Draw trigger or the Sac trigger, doesnt matter which of the two you pick, just do it before the sac trigger. This will grant you a 5 mana draw 4 and a 2/2 body which can be flickered later on for more value! Thanks to the person who pointed this out to me.

Gilded Drake + Roon of the Hidden Realm , cast Gilded Drake, exchange control with another creature, then once that is done you can flicker Gilded Drake and it comes back under your control so you can go ahead and steal another creature, you can keep doing this for as long as Gilded Drake lives and you dont have to give anything back!

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite / Linvala, Keeper of Silence + Living Plane , your lands become 3/3 and your opponents lands are gone! This works with Linvala too except they keep their lands so they can still block and attack with it.

Faerie Artisans + Eldrazi Displacer / Mistmeadow Witch , Opponent plays a Elvish Mystic so you get a Elvish Mystic , now your opponent plays Llanowar Elves and you react to the exile trigger by flickering Faerie Artisans , the exile trigger will still go off and exile your Elvish Mystic since the resolving trigger can still receive information from the original even though it isnt on the battlefield anymore and so you will have a Llanowar Elves now. However when the opponent plays yet another minion like Avacyn's Pilgrim (Faerie Artisans has returned to the battlefield again) it will not exile the Llanowar Elves since Faerie Artisans knows nothing about it because it got flickered, thus leaving you with 2 tokens of which Llanowar Elves will always stay permanently.

So it goes a bit like this:

  1. Elvish Mystic enters play - you get an Elvish Mystic token

  2. Opponent plays Llanowar Elves

  3. Llanowar Elves enters the battlefield

  4. In response to the Exile trigger from Faerie Artisans you flicker Farie Artisans with any flicker that returns the card to play directly.

  5. the trigger resolves exiling your Elvish Mystic and giving you Llanowar Elves

  6. Faerie Artisans Enters plays again

  7. Opponent plays Avacyn's Pilgrim not exiling your Llanowar Elves since Faerie Artisans doesnt 'remember' making the Llanowar Elves .

If you flicker in respone to the opponent casting Llanowar Elves you will keep your Elvish Mystic and you will get a Llanowar Elves . The difference here is that if an opponent plays another creature you will have to exile your Llanowar Elves whereas the other version lets you keep Llanowar Elves but you lose Elvish Mystic . So if you want to keep the token you already had in play or just got in play, flicker before the opponents creature enters the battlefield.

If you want to keep the creature 'permanently' in play that your opponent is now casting, flicker in response to the exile trigger of the token you already have.
