Overview

In the simplest of terms, Bello, Bard of the Brambles turns cards of a certain type into aggro. It's much like one of my other "main" commanders: Alela, Artful Provocateur, except in the complete opposite colors. Bello, unlike Alela, is much closer to the ground (flying pun intended) and has a much more straight-forward aggressive gameplan. Like it says on the box: Make Trash, Do Smash.

There's basically two ways this deck can lean (enchantments and artifacts, obviously) and unlike most of my other decks, there are very few moving pieces to this one.

I skewed my version of this deck towards enchantments out of preference, and the deck basically built itself. We aim to ramp up to our 4-mana threshold and start to play our enchantments as early as possible. Since our enchantments act as our aggressive creatures, there's a good amount of overlap with our value. This frees up space in the rest of the deck for more ramp and interaction.

Card Rundown

Since our commander cares about a minimum mana value for our core permanents, we need a good amount of mana boosters to get our game plan underway. These include:
The Classics:
Elvish Mysticfoil
Llanowar Elvesfoil
Sakura-Tribe Elderfoil
Cultivate
Rampant Growth
Arcane Signetfoil
Gruul Signet
Sol Ring
Talisman of Impulse

Some Cost Reducers:
Emerald Medallion
Ruby Medallion
The Immortal Sunfoil
Goblin Anarchomancer

Some Enchantment Synergy:
Nyxbloom Ancientfoil
Sanctum Weaver

And a Big Rock:
Gilded Lotusfoil
(that we can also throw at people)

I have a feeling the new Fanatic of Rhonas is going to put in work, too.

Abundance: Card Selection
Alchemist's Talent: Treasures and Damage
Asceticism: Protection and Regeneration
Court of Bounty: Extra Lands or Free Spells
Eidolon of Blossomsfoil: Card Advantage
Glorious Sunrise: +1/+1 and Trample (or some other options)
Guardian Project: Card Advantage
Leyline of Abundance: Extra Creature Mana, and +1/+1 Counters
Nature's Will: Tap and Untap Lands
Omenpath Journey: Get an extra land every turn. I don't yet have many useful utility lands as targets, but that might change.
Sunbird's Invocation: Free Spells
Thickest in the Thicket: Card Advantage
Virtue of Courage: Impulse Draw
Bootleggers' Stash: Treasures
Chimil, the Inner Sun: Protection and Discover 5
Lithoform Engine: Copy Things
The Immortal Sunfoil: Mutes Planeswalkers, Card Advantage, Cost Reduction, +1/+1
Vedalken Orrery: Flash

Berserkers' Onslaught: Double Strike
City on Fire: 3x Damage
Court of Ire: Ping for 2 or 7
Dictate of the Twin Godsfoil: 2x All Damage
Fiery Emancipation: 3x Damage
Gratuitous Violence: 2x Creature Damage
Leyline of Combustion: Ping for 2
Overlord of the Boilerbilgesfoil: Deal 4 damage right away, and again when it attacks, provided it's a creature. See note below.
Sight of the Scalelords: +2/+2 and Vigilance
Unnatural Growth: 2x Power and Toughness
Warstorm Surgefoil: Damage on ETB

A note about Impending: while it may seem like you can cast Overlord for its Impending cost, making it an enchantment, which is then turned back into a creature via Bello, this sadly isn't the case. Because of weird layers and timestamps interactions, if Overlord is cast for Impending as Bello is already out, it'll stay an enchantment. However, if Bello enters after Overlord, he will animate the Impending Overlord as expected.

Winning the Game

It's Gruul beatdown, plain and simple. Especially with our damage amplifiers, our 4/4 Indestructible pieces of Trash should be able to close the game out quickly.

My wife and I love animals, and raccoons have always been one of my favorites. When Bloomburrow was initially teased and we got a glimpse into the creature types that would be represented, I was excited to see that trash pandas made it onto the list and it made me hopeful we'd finally be getting a Legendary Raccoon. Sure enough, not long after, the face commanders were revealed and there was the confirmation; not only were we getting a Legendary Raccoon, he was also going to be designed for commander. However, there was just one problem; he was in Gruul colors! I typically play decks on the opposite side of the color pie.

Regardless, I knew what my next deck was going to be. As soon as his card was revealed, I set to work building my new deck.
