Creature (1)

A combo deck based on milling yourself to a win using Izzet Guildmage, Training Grounds, and Manamorphose to draw through your whole deck when you have a Laboratory Maniac out.

You cast Training Grounds and Izzet Guildmage. Training Grounds makes the guildmage's copy ability cost a single red or blue. (In this case blue.) Then cast Manamorphose, and pay a blue while it's on the stack to copy it. When the copy resolves, you must choose to have one of the colors of mana it produces be blue. The other color doesn't matter a whole lot, but you need to produce at the very miniumum one blue in addition. Once the copy resolves, use a blue from the mana it produced to copy the original spell again while it's still on the stack. Then just repeat this X times until you've drawn your whole deck. If you already have a Laboratory Maniac out, you can draw an extra to end the game. If you don't, draw until you have 0 cards left. Then once the stack is empty, you can use the floating mana you've acquired to play Laboratory Maniac (preferably multiples, since if they bolt it and you only have one out, you can lose), and then simply play any draw spell in the deck.

Optimally, the combo works by turn 3.

Turn 1: Training Grounds

Turn 2: Izzet Guildmage

Turn 3: Manamorphose, use the extra land to copy it, then draw your deck and play a Laboratory Maniac and another draw spell.

The deck was inspired by a combo deck found here ( http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/budget/549960-love-me-tender ), which had a different combo to win, but also had the guildmage combo present. I decided to go all in on the guildmage combo.

The issue I see this having is dealing with creatures before they end up killing you. I'm thinking about changing this deck into a BUG deck for more efficient spot removal like Abrupt Decay to get rid of stuff like Tarmogoyf. However, red is better for board clears in the forms of Pyroclasm and Anger of the Gods, and offers less reliable, but still good spot removal of its own. I'll do testing with each to see which works better.

I'm also trying to come up with a sideboard. I know I need artifact/enchantment removal, but that's all I can really think of.

If anyone has input on this, please let me know!
