[[Sylvan Caryatid]] —Oct. 10, 2013

After a lot of playtesting, I have decided that Sylvan Caryatid will replace 2 Farseek and 2 Solemn Simulacrum, which have both been moved to the sideboard.

would a Deathrite Shaman + lands be an upgrade... im not sure... but im sure its alot of money you have to put into it...

I don't think that would be much of an upgrade. I'd have to keep cracking Fetches and losing life in order for Deathrite Shaman to do the same thing as a BoP. As you said, it would be a lot of money as well.

How useful is Garruk in this deck? I think Domri Rade would be better

Garruk is very useful in this deck. If I don't draw a Somberwald Sage or something were to happen to my smaller rampers, he allows me to hit a fatty next turn. His ultimate is also a fantastic finisher. Also, although my deck is primarily creature based, over half of my deck is non-creatures, so often Domri's +1 is useless and I'll probably never reach his ultimate.

Thanks for this deck, I was running a pretty classical wolf ramp deck in standard last year, and now I'm more into modern so I can recycle it !

Some possible theros cards that could go in...
Sylvan Caryatid :You can decode for yourself on this one, but a b.o.p. that doesnt die to Lightning Bolt can be handy
Satyr Hedonist : Yet another way to cast Balefire Dragon on turn 3, and has the slight advantage over Somberwald Sage that it can pump your Kessig Wolf Run (I'm not saying it's better than the sage in general, just that it has that option)
Ember Swallower : If you have enough mana to activate his ability, then you should be okay, wheras your opponent will have their mana base destroyed as early as turn 4.
Stormbreath Dragon :Another great monstrous creature, this could go in the main or just the sb as it is very good against rwu control, who mainly use white to deal with larger threats.
Polukranos, World Eater : The last fatty I'm going to suggest, but definitely worth considering. Dump tons of mana into it and you kill off a few of their creatures and end up with a serious threat.
Xenagos, The Reveler : This card does every job that garruk does,, but better. Ramp? check. Tokens? Check. Overrun? Close enough. This doesn't mean you should take out garruk for him, but it is an option. But this dude is amazing.

I do like the idea of Sylvan Caryatid . It seems like an upgrade over Farseek . I might remove Solemn Simulacrum and go for a 3/3 split between Sylvan Caryatid and Farseek . Alternatively, I might go for a 4/2 split in favour of the tree. What do you think?

I like Solemn Simulacrum , I'd just trade it with Farseek

Sylvan Caryatid is good because of hexproof and it's a good blocker in early game.

Farseek is nice too because cheap and make you ramp, Solemn Simulacrum is very good (drawing a card is great, especially if you have sorted lots of lands already) but cost 4.

So it's a hard choice, but as you already have Birds of Paradise , Arbor Elf and Somberwald Sage , I'd would go for 3 Solemn Simulacrum & 3 Sylvan Caryatid . Or maybe 2-2-2... Only playtesting will sort thoses 3 !
