Ok thanks. I need to make a sideboard, and I was thinking land search and enchantment/artifact removal. I think I might run them against control/burn decks. Cheers.

Okay, MM, I'll +1 your deck. You've beaten me often enough with it!

I have indeed.

Your sideboard should be keyed towards matchups your weak against. I'd suggest Naturalize or Plummet type things. could also look at more hexproof type effects like Ranger's Guile because this deck looks incredibly vulnerable to kill spells of any kind, particularly burn on turn 1.

@Weston Ayarza Thanks for the suggestions. I've been trying to think of a good sideboard for ages, as I struggle against control and burn. I do like the idea of Ranger's Guile, I didn't think of that myself.

Krosan Grip is generlly considered better than Naturalize

Haha! I dig this! My kind of deck!

I would say that a Sarkhan Vol or two would be quite helpful. Haste is always a good thing with the beasts you have. Stealing an opponent's threat is fun also.

Have you considered Steel Hellkite it's an Engineered Explosives and Ratchet Bomb on a stick. That hits your opponent's permanents...

I'm not quite sold on Bonfire of the Damned . Sure, it's a good card, but Banefire is better here, IMHO.

Oh, believe me, I'm 100% sold on Bonfire of the Damned . Just last night at FNM, I miracled a Bonfire for 21 damage, thus killing all of my opponent's creatures and my opponent. It's also useful as a red board wipe and has won me loads of games that way. Even if I don't miracle it, I can still play it out of the hand for 2 damage on turn 3, wiping most Aggro decks.

Oh, and I don't really need Steel Hellkite . I've already got a fat board-wiping dragon in the form of Balefire Dragon .

June 1, 2013 5:54 a.m.

Good point about Bonfire lol.

But, Steel Hellkite nukes permanents, not just creatures but Planeswalkers, Enchantments, Artifacts, and Tokens for zero.... It's at least worth play testing with a Kessig Wolf Run and sideboarding 1x of. It's won me many games.

My meta is mostly creature-based decks. Even if it wasn't, I'd rather spend my mana on more creatures or on Kessig Wolf Run than nuking permanents. Besides, if my opponent plays on curve (i.e. a 1-drop, a 2-drop, a 3-drop etc.) then I can only nuke 1 at a time, which isn't really a nuke. However, I am considering Sarkhan Vol . It's hilarious how much he breaks Primeval Titan and Inferno Titan . And if you can't tell by my username, I like Titans, particularly when broken by a crazy dragon-worshiping planeswalker. The problem is that he doesn't help much with ramping and doesn't fit the theme of the deck all too well. What would you take out to put him in?

June 1, 2013 7:35 p.m.

:-D

-2x Garruk Wildspeaker for +2x Sarkhan Vol . He's one of my favorite, underrated Planeswalkers of all time. Domri Rade could be interesting as a 1x of IMO.

Back to Sarkhan. Yeah, Haste, steal a creature, and pop for 4/4 flying Dragon tokens. Yes please. You have plenty of ramp ala Birds of Paradise , Somberwald Sage , and the like.

Honestly, I've not been a fan of Somberwald Sage due to the very fragile creature she is. I mean Tragic Slip and poof, 3 mana ill spent. I'd rather have Farseek (of course in conjunction with Stomping Ground please), additional Solemn Simulacrum , Gilded Lotus , Chromatic Lantern , Sphere of the Suns , Lotus Cobra , even Utopia Tree , and so forth. Such a mana investment on a low toughness creature can be detrimental when Artifacts or instant ETB triggers are harder to deal with.

However on counterpoint, if she goes undealt with, Somberwald Sage is some insane ramp. Something to think about. In my experience, creature ramp is almost always ineffective, as it's susceptible to removal, verses land ramp which is harder to remove. Though I must say that Lotus Cobra + Primeval Titan + Verdant Catacombs or another fetch land is stupid broken and lands you a turn 3 Primeval Titan ...

Most ramp decks I play with have 4x Lotus Cobra , 4x Primeval Titan , and fetch lands in them. Even if I land a Prime Time and it's gone the way of Swords to Plowshares or even better Path to Exile , I'm way ahead of the game. If they attempt to counter, Summoning Trap is a beast...

No. I'm not taking out Garruk. No way. He is such a key part in my deck. If I don't manage a Titan or Dragon on turn 3, I drop him. He can then Overrun the turn after, or get me the last couple of mana I need to play whatever is in my hand. Then Overrun after that. He wins me games. I also have fun trick where I can pretty much get a free Garruk. All you need is a Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger on the board. Tap 2 lands to play Garruk, then untap them again with Garruk. There you have a free Garruk.

I admit, Lotus Cobra is an insane card as he allows me to effectively use Primeval Titan 's mana the second it hits the board. However, to make him effective in ramping up into Prime Time and other such fun creatures, he requires lots of fetch lands, which go for $100 for a playset, on top of the $30 for the playset of the good ol' mana snake. Also, he becomes pretty useless in the late game where I miss my land drops if I don't get a Primeval Titan out. As for the plan to get a turn 3 Titan, I can do that easily enough as is.

Garruk Wildspeaker is a badass Planeswalker, granted. He's won me numerous games.

As I've said I'm not a fan of Somberwald Sage , so perhaps -1/2x of them for Sarkhan Vol ?

About your sideboard, 4x Summoning Trap would be hilarious and quite effective. Also, Creeping Corrosion wrecks Affinty type decks and has a lower CMC than Hellkite Tyrant . Acidic Slime offers great utility in regards to Inkmoth Nexus , Blind Obedience , and the like. Urabrask the Hidden could be interesting. For eggs there's Surgical Extraction , Runeflare Trap (maybe), and definitely Ravenous Trap . Instants seem to fare better than a Tormod's Crypt locked down with a Pithing Needle .

Somberwald Sage is just awesome on turn 2. If she survives until your next turn, you get a huge creature. Even if your opponent hits her with a kill spell, they've wasted a spell that could kill a Titan or a Dragon and missed their 2-drop and I can still hit Solemn Simulacrum or Garruk Wildspeaker next turn to ramp into a fatty the turn after.

The only reason I would want Sarkhan Vol is for the haste, honestly. For that reason, I'd rather have Urabrask the Hidden as he hurts my opponents. I'd rather not take out a ramper, but I could take out 1 Farseek . Do you think it's worth taking out 1 more land?

June 2, 2013 4:30 p.m.

I played Wolf Run when it was Standard, also currently play Legacy 12 Post. In my experience at least 24, if not 25-26 lands are necessary in a ramp deck. The logic is 1. You don't want to miss a land drop. 2. Lands are harder to remove than creatures. I know Somberwald Sage is something you like, however I believe you'd fare better with a higher land count, additional Solemn Simulacrum , Sphere of the Suns , Rampant Growth , or even Viridian Emissary . So if you -4x Somberwald Sage , +1x Mountain and +1 Forest , you'd have two slots available for 2x Solemn Simulacrum , Sarkhan Vol , Rampant Growth , Sphere of the Suns , or Urabrask the Hidden . Or what have you.

If you just want the Haste, Fervor and Fires of Yavimaya are good. Enchantments are harder to remove than Urabrask the Hidden . Although I'm partial to the Praetor for the effect he has on my opponent's creatures... Either way, some good options.
