Hi There!

Runetron, Defender of Realms is a Voltron deck with the intention of using a either a Runeforge Champion or an Angel of Mercy pumped with as many artifacts and/or enchanments as possible swing for the win. I picked mainly white for the deck because I couldn't fit in another color without cutting out the blockers I started out with. My budget now prevents me from considering branching out to another color at this time. The deck's main function is to serve as my standard deck until autumn of 2022.

Angel of Mercy is my win condition. Besides the fact that I'm a sucker for alternate win cards, the other options at the time of this initial build were either too financially expensive(such as Halvar, God of Battle  ), had at least two of the abilities the rune cards in this deck had to offer, or just felt "meh"(such as all mono-white creatures with power 5 or higher).

However, I only have two copies for this deck. The fastest way to get to it is to draw through my deck by playing rune cards. To get to the rune cards I have Runed Crown and Runeforge Champion to search my graveyard and library for the runes.

There aren't many creature cards in my deck so I put in enchantments that can shut down permanents. Detention Vortex prevents creatures from attacking me in the early game and makes spell casting and ability activating more difficult in the middle game. Bound in Gold picks up where Detention Vortex leads off by shutting down all permanents that don't have hexproof or mana abilities. If they're not enough slow down more aggressive decks, then Doomskar is waiting to buy myself a little more time.
Enviromental Sciences gets me a Plains and two life, allowing me to keep pace with land drops. The purpose of Spectral Steel is to buff up my creatures for combat and get attachments back from the graveyard and into my hand, allowing for additional uses of rune cards. When I can get copies of Ambitious Farmhand they will replace Enviromental Sciences.
I'm not a big fan of sideboards. Sometimes you only have time for one game and I'd rather be prepared for everything as reasonably as possible. And with that said sometimes you can't plan for everything. That's why I have Invoke the Divine to deal with enchantments and artifacts Bound In Gold can't handle. Starnheim Courser, when I can get a playset, will also sit here to speed up the casting of runes. However, it is only likely to see play either when Runed Crown isn't playable or when facing creature-light opponents.

Well, that's all for this deck for now. With this deck no longer standard legal and I already have decks in other formats so this deck will likely not see any action until new Rune cards are printed and are playable. In the mean time I'll be keeping this deck up in the hope this deck inspires you in some capacity.

God Bless!

With the release of Dominaria United, this deck is no longer standard legal. I'm officially retiring this deck as of today. Sadly, I never got to play it in an FNM setting. However, I did get my sister-in-law's nephew and nieces to play with and against this and my other decks and it played moderately competitive in a few casual games on both 1v1 and multiplayer.
