Sideboard

The deck is basically just value for days. It's an evolution of Junk Aristocrats from RtR/Innistrad standard, but I don't think it's fair to actually call it that, even though Cartel Aristocrat is a central piece to the deck. The central difference is that Aristocrat decks took advantage of creature sacrifices to retain card advantage and overwhelm the opponent through 1/1 spirit tokens and Demon tokens via Skirsdag High-Priest's morbid. This deck, on the other hand, aims to make use of the high volume of 2/1 one-drops available to the Junk colors by sacrificing them to make Cartel Aristocrat unblockable or to regenerate Varolz, the Scar-Striped and then promptly scavenging them onto one of those (or a few other) creatures to hit for large amounts of damage with a relatively low mana-investment.

The main scavenge-targets are Cartel and Varolz. They are highly resilient creatures that can become devastating once they reach higher power levels. There's an additional Human sub-theme as well. Cartel, Soldier of the Pantheon and Tormented Hero are all Humans that trigger Xathrid Necromancer, as is the Necromancer himself. This is where the deck most closely resembles the Junk Aristocrats of yore (as well as in the presence of the exceedingly powerful Voice of Resurgence). Desecration Demon is an incredibly powerful curve topper that the mana supports quite well (with 18 black sources, one of which is Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth), so I'd be a fool not to run it.

(Note: Earlier versions of the deck contained Athreos, God of Passage. So, if you're confused while looking at the updates, that's why it's talked about so frequently).
