INTRO

So, why did I choose Saheeli Rai as my commander instead of Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain? Two reasons, actually. First, I love Saheeli, simple as that. Second is utility. Jhoira's great, don't get me wrong, but I feel like she's not commander worthy. I like that Saheeli is one mana cheaper and that use can use her +1 or -2 ability immediately, whereas Jhoira is dependent on you casting Historic cards for her to be truly useful.

THE STRATEGY

The goal here is to try to play fast before my opponent's could do too much, using cards like Glint-Nest Crane and Pull from Tomorrow to try and dig for the right cards.

Ideally, using Saheeli's -7 is best, albeit a bit slow, but that draws so much aggro that it rarely happens. Ironically, most of my opponent's feared Saheeli's -7 so much so that they focused their resources into countering/killing her, which allowed my other fetches to slip under the radar.

Now for the meat of the deck:

THE COMBOS!

The first combo is of course the infamous infinite thopter combo, using Whirler Virtuoso with Gonti's Aether Heart/Decoction Module x2 + Panharmonicon.

Basically this allows you to get infinite energy and therefore infinite thopters. With the singleton nature of Brawl, you can't have two Modules in your deck, so that's where Shaeeli's -2 ability comes in handy. Make a token of one of the combo pieces and profit.

The problem with this combo is that the tokens do not have haste, so you'll either have to have a Reckless Fireweaver on the field, or hope that an opponent does not have an answer to your newfound fleet before you can attack next turn.

For the second combo, Angrath's Marauders with practically anything else.

The main goal is to ultimately hit big with Fight with Fire or Jaya's Immolating Inferno. Copying the Marauders with either Saheeli's -2, Vizier of Many Faces, or Mirage Mirror nets a much bigger hit.

As a combo deck first and foremost, it is important to make sure your combo goes off without a hitch. Easier said than done, of course, but that's why you add in some padding to make it go more smoothly, or some lite alternatives if things don't go your way.

Everybody wants free energy, right? Well this deck is more energy-starved than a gremlin! That's why I have energy-producers aplenty.
As a permanent-heavy deck, it is important to protect your stuff. Artifacts in particular have so much hate with cards like Abrade that they're all but too easy to remove, especially in a singleton format such as Brawl. That's why it is imperative that there's some sort of defense against removal.

In case of counter-spells:

If I cannot prevent the removal, I have these to lessen the blow:

Pretty much every deck can benefit from some form of ramping, whether it's through card draw, getting extra mana, or simply making things cheaper/free to play. Here are the cards that help me to just that:
  • Artificer's Assistant

  • Combustible Gearhulk (if nobody stops you from drawing that cards of course)
  • Gilded Lotus
  • Glint-Nest Crane
  • Inspiring Statuary
  • Jhoira's Familiar (Great for casting Saheeli too)
  • Pull from Tomorrow
  • Reverse Engineer
  • Search for azcanta
  • The Antiquities War
  • treasure map
  • And of course, Saheeli Rai's -7.

    FINAL THOUGHTS

Thank you for looking over my deck and reading this rather lengthy description! I'll gladly welcome any/all constructive criticism and suggestions for this deck, for I'd love for this to become even better. Big shout-out to Thor_Naadoh for their suggestions, and check out the deck Braw-Heeli for their take on a Saheeli deck!
