I could see a 1-of Rat but thats about it. It's just not that great in Modern, esp in a deck that doesn't really want to run Mutavault.

Nice deck! I have been runing Phyrexian Obliterator in modern for sometime now. I should really give Arena a try lol.

Thanks! It's a game changer dude, highly recommended with obliterator

Yeah i'll have to give it a try! I'm expermenting with splashing green currently, but the price tag is pretty ridiculous. I'll pick up a few Arena next time i go to my LGS

Nikolai_1490 -- I think for this deck you really don't want to splash. Obliterator is a KEY card here, and you've already got to run a few lands that don't natively produce black. Obviously you would run MOSTLY duals for your splash source, but that then worsens your matchup against burn and all the control decks running red now (of which there are a TON in my local meta, dunno bout you guys).

I see you're running 2x Tectonic Edge here. Have you ever considered running 1x Ghost Quarter in one of those slots? I try and run 1x Quarter in my Modern decks whenever possible given the manabase, because it is just SO helpful against Tron ESPECIALLY, but lots of other decks as well. It's even good to occasionally hit one of your OWN lands in response to a Blood Moon being cast.

There are also people playing 3-4 color burn in my area, and even some (up-to-)5-COLOR zoo decks... and those decks LITERALLY sometimes have 1-2 basics, tops. Its ability to HIT basics, as well, is especially good in that situation.

So, I guess what I'm saying is... Since it's so much faster than Edge, and because the decks I find myself most wanting the LD benefit the least from its drawback, I'm a big fan of Ghost Quarter. I really do like having one of each if possible, but if I can only afford the one given my mana situation, I go with GQ. :)

No I didn't mean his deck i was talking about mine. You can find it on my profile its called B/G midrange till i can come up with a better name, but i also have a mono black version on my profile that i have been playing for awhile.

I also agree with the comment about adding Ghost Quarter it will allow you to deal with tron a lot earlier.

Ghost Quarter is great because it can hit whatever, whenever, but giving them a replacement land is something I'm not fond of. However, I really only tec-edge when it's an emergency so I agree with your suggestion for 1 and 1, thanks :)

great deck, and i like the use of the zombie subtheme and the random(but useful) Dragon's Claw in the sideboard. +1

also your (upvote +1) button takes me to a Scion the Ur-dragon edh deck.

How have the shrines been working for you?

Yes! It's quite a critical piece. I ended up needing to go up from 2 to 3. It ends games in conjunction with Profane Command

Ok cool, i'm always looking to try new things in my build. I'll have to give them a try. No more Arena?

unfortunately not.. it was just too clunky. The flavor was beautiful but it wasn't very practical. It was awesome when it worked, but more times than not it was a disruptive land draw when mana was needed

Love the deck, but do you know if there is a way for me o make a $<350 version of it? What would you recommend subbing out and still being able to keep the basic theme of the deck?

KaiserMTG says... #25

2040364 when I first started building this deck I was on a budget and it was under 350. For lands run 22 swamp and 2 nykthos. Drop the vials and the gb removal for Victim of Night, Disfigure, and/or Dismember. Add hand attack spells like Duress/Blackmail/Despise (Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek if you can afford it). Consider cards like Garza's Assassin, Gatekeeper of Malakir, Lashwrithe, Whip of Erebos and Mutilate as well
