I do like licorice.

How about Wound Reflection just to double up on the damage. It works even when they hurt each other or themselves.

@wahnschatten thank you for the feedback. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Liliana of the Dark Realms are allready in the deck :)

Even though Deathbringer Regent is situational, I think his destruction ability is better than Reiver Demon. I think that his prerequisite will be fulfilled often enough to keep him.

I don't think that I would ever be allowed an extra turn with Temporal Extortion, so I'll skip on that.

Corrosive Mentor is really good. It's the first time I see it. I'll see if I can find a spot for it. What would you take out?

Cheers

I only now realized that I don't need that much draw, since... you know... Erebos, God of the Dead... DOH!

Baleful Force can go. Greed can go. Syphon Mind can go. Maybe even Necropotence can take a rest (a black deck without Necropotence!?!)

Alhammarret's Archive is a must when it is released. It will work wonders in this deck. It will take the Syphon Mind Slot.

Baleful Force -> Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre

Greed -> Sensei's Divining Top

Necropotence -> Butcher of Malakir

And another doh! - forgot that GeminiSpartanX taught me to read Baleful Force: it draws me a card in each upkeep.

Butcher of Malakir -> Baleful Force

Most draw spells, besides mycommander, are useless so I'd rather run some control.

Candidates for replacements are (in order of priority)

I want to keep Phyrexian Arena and Sensei's Divining Top in the deck.

If I cut all my candidates I would prefer to add some beat sticks with ETB or kickers.

I am thinking of adding

but I can't find any good black, instant speed, control cards. Do you have any suggestions?

Nice deck just changed my Ob Nixilis deck to Erebos. Do you find other draw spells that redundant?

August 19, 2015 1:49 a.m.

MrHighscore says... #9

Thank you!

Erebos, God of the Dead is so resilient that she pretty much covers the draw - other draw spells have to be very good to be worth the spot (so I'm considering dumping Graveborn Muse).

Nice change! I got to get some playtesting in last night. Think I need to drop some draw in mine as well. Greed is probably the first cut. Promise of Power still worked out pretty well.

Oh and I've posted my erebos list on here I don't know how to send a link yet but it's called Evil Erebos if you feel like taking a look

August 20, 2015 10:28 p.m.

Always love your detailed deck descriptions,+1. Just out of curiosity, you referred to Erebos as "she" up above, was that a typo or do you consider it to be female? Hard to tell since so skeletal. :)

I'm gonna add Ruinous Path when BFZ gets released, thugh I don't yet know what to drop.

@bradtheimpaler13 your deck looks good :) consider Deathbringer Regent over Reiver Demon.

@Jimmy_Chinchila thank you! I never really looked that closely at the picture - just assumed that it was a she based on the clothes and the whip. Looking agin, I would say he since the chest is clearly showing in the image.

Cheers.

I think Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath is pretty underwhelming for 5 mana. Since you are concerned about your average CMC, I would think about swapping it for Necropotence to speed the deck up considerably. It's a much, much better draw engine than anything you currently have in here (including Erebos.) I know you are concerned about redundancy, but there are so many ways that Erebos can be dealt with, and it's never a good idea to rely too much on your commander.

Why aren't you running Bubbling Muck?

October 8, 2015 10:09 p.m.

MrHighscore says... #19

Thank you for the feedback!

@NoSoyYucateco good perspective, I'll bring Necropotence back!

@K34 I don't know. I should. I'lll think about what to cut.

Awesome looking deck, +1'd.

My suggestion would be to replace your Swamps with Snow-Covered Swamps to help prevent other players from benefiting from Extraplanar Lens.

I should be able to get some play-testing for it done soon to give you more feedback, keep up the good work!

OH MY GOD FINALLY! I have been running Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood combo FOREVER in my Orzhov deck! Nice to see someone else using it! +1 from me!

Ocarina500 says... #22

Also, I would replace Murder with Unmake. The 3 black isn't a problem in your deck and it just gives you so much more bang for your buck.

November 10, 2015 6:23 p.m.

MrHighscore says... #23

@Ocarina500 Unfortunately Unmake is out of my commander's color identity, so I can't run it.

I assume you want ramp for lands and cards, MrHighscore? Well it's not ramp based around your commander but I invented a really gross ramp combo a little over a year ago that can get me all of my mana out and leave me with a huge hand. You can check it out in my There Are Zombies On Your Lawn! deck. And it's not there because I haven't put it in the combo's description yet but by using Phyrexian Reclamation you can repeat the process. The combo is a low CMC which is what your looking for! Oh, I also give the deck +1 because it's pretty good!

No Necropotence? It's basically a staple of mono black decks. It's also much more efficient draw than your Commander. I see very little reason not to run it. It's basically Ob Nixilis, Reignited except you can draw more than 1 card in a turn and always keep a grip of 7 (aaaaand I also think that Ob Reignited's ultimate is garbage in Commander since you can have more than 1 opponent. Drawing more cards = getting other things that affect all opponents). Seems like a reasonable change to drop the Planeswalker for one of the best black enchantments in Magic: The Gathering.

Archfiend of Depravity seems like something you'd enjoy. It has a lower mana cost than Pestilence Demon-- and, let's be real, here, if you're able to pay 8/4 for him and activate him in the same turn, you have so much mana that you should be able to win with practically any other card. I play big mana black with Chainer, Dementia Master, so I know how out-of-control mana production can get, but I also know that if you get to that state it means your opponent's aren't stopping you so end step triggers vs B activation costs shouldn't matter. I imagine there's a fair number of times you cast Demon and end the turn without activating him until you untap for your next turn- Archfiend basically lets you gain benefit against non-Voltron decks without paying any extra mana and at 3 less initial investment.

Toxic Deluge could be a nice alternative to some of your higher cost sweepers/removal. You seem to try gaining life a lot, and most of your creatures are on the heavier side, so you can probably pay 5~ life with impunity and mostly board wipe your opponents religiously, and it gets around opposing Darksteel Plates and Swiftfoot Boots in the event of coming across a Voltron deck (if Kemba, Kha Regent is suited with Darksteel Plate/Sword of Feast and Famine or Swiftfoot Boots there's not really a lot this deck could do to her since most of your spells either target or destroy. Deluge gives you an out against Voltron decks, so I think it's worth a look).

In Garruk's Wake is so absurdly costed that I'd play practically anything over it. Many of our games are over by the time I could feasibly cast that card (or other wipes have happened so it loses its luster). Maybe try Deluge over it? Alternatively, you could try Deluge over Silence the Believers or Ashes to Ashes.

That said, I love playing Big Mana Black decks. I have my own big black deck if you'd like to check it out, here: The Chainer That Binds. That said, hope this helps, have fun.
