Acidic Slime - A nice green staple that offers versatile removal and a good blocker with deathtouch.
Adarkar Valkyrie - I'll admit that this is a pet card of mine but I don't think it's hard to see why this angel is so strong. It's a flier with vigilance and a decent body, but it also has the ability to take one (or multiple with Samut in play) enemy creatures. The possibilities are vast with this card, especially in a deck helmed by Samut.
Angel of Condemnation - I put this in instead of Restoration Angel due to its excellent tap abilities. With Samut or Thousand-Year Elixir on the field we can re-use a tap ability with its blink effect or remove multiple threats (until the Angel leaves play).
Aurelia, the Warleader - Aurelia not only allows us to beat face if we want to, but she also allows us the ability to untap all of our creatures if we don't.
Birds of Paradise - An excellent mana dork. It is aggressively costed, adds any color of mana to our pool, and it even blocks fliers in a pinch.
Bloom Tender - Can potentially create one of each of our colors depending on our board state. Perhaps Somberwald Sage is better but I appreciate Bloom Tender's lower cost and ability to use mana on whatever we want, not just creatures.
Captain Sisay - The linchpin of our legend subtheme. With Paradox Engine or Samut in play, this card becomes truly formidable and allows us to tutor up wincons and utility creatures alike.
Combat Celebrant - Much like Aurelia, the Warleader, this creature allows us to swing out or re-use some of our tap abilities.
Dragonlord Dromoka - A solid beatstick that we can tutor up with Captain Sisay that also protects us from removal and other things on our turn.
Elvish Piper - This wonderful little card can allow us to cheat multiple creatures into play provided we have the mana. We can also do this on our opponent's turns, which made me include this over Champion of Rhonas
Eternal Witness - Another green staple, just wonderful for recursion purposes.
Fauna Shaman - Survival of the Fittest on legs. While we run the OG enchantment in this deck as well as the Shaman for consistency's sake, just having this creature will be more than fine since you can get multiple activations of it per turn with Samut in play.
Feldon of the Third Path - Excellent for copying ETB triggers and tap abilities alike. Also a legend that can be tutored for with Captain Sisay.
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight - While an excellent card in her own right, her main purpose in this deck is to combo with
Heartless Hidetsugu
. She doesn't really move the main strategy forward but I love this card and its associated combo.
Glissa Sunseeker
- This Glissa often gets overlooked for her compleated counterpart, but she works wonders in this deck. Not only is it a re-usable tap ability, she is also tutored up with Captain Sisay and synergizes with our mana dorks, even if that mana can only be spent on creatures.
Godsire
- Basically an auto-include in any Samut deck, but it's a cool card for creating a threatening board presence.
Heartless Hidetsugu
- While primarily included to combo with Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, this creature can do a lot of damage in his own right. He's useful if you're fighting an opponent piloting a pesky Oloro deck that won't stop gaining life, or a reanimator deck that just cast its second Gray Merchant of Asphodel this game. Although it hits you too, it hurts your opponents much more if you time it right.
Intrepid Hero
- EDH is full of big creatures.
Intrepid Hero
gets rid of big creatures, sometimes multiple times per turn.
Jaya Ballard, Task Mage
- This legend has a wonderful amount of versatility and removal potential, provided we have enough mana and cards in hand to sustain her.
Karmic Guide - This is one of those inclusions in the introduction that I was talking about when I said that I like recursion. You can take this card out for whatever you want, but I enjoy playing this card because it helps us re-use valuable ETBs and get back key creatures to our strategy.
Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker - Not only is he a combo piece, he enables some crazy plays with any of our nonlegendary creatures, even without Samut in play. Definitely an all-star.
Krenko, Mob Boss - This guy can quickly get out of hand with how many goblins we can produce in a turn.
Mangara of Corondor - I'm surprised that more people don't run this awesome creature. Tutoring him up with Captain Sisay is like tutoring up a Scour from Existence. But with Samut or Thousand-Year Elixir in play, we can have multiple targets!
Mother of Runes - Can help save multiple creatures from spot removal or help them get through for damage.
Reclamation Sage - Another green staple that offers versatile removal.
Recruiter of the Guard - This is a very versatile, easily recurrable tutor that allows us access to key combo pieces and utility creatures.
Restoration Angel - This card can provide lots of utility with our ETB creatures, but can also provide extra instances of tap abilities with Samut or Thousand-Year Elixir in play.
Seedborn Muse - Allows us to use our tap effects on everyone else's turns. Broken.
Selvala, Explorer Returned - We can get crazy amounts of lifegain, card draw, and ramp off of this card if we play things right.
Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - Much like her original counterpart, we can get lots of ramp off of this card, but this ramp is multicolored which is a huge plus. Also, the card draw is always relevant but takes a back seat to ramp in this deck.
Shaman of Forgotten Ways - Great multicolored ramp, but it shouldn't be hard to get Formidable with this deck which can lead to potentially killing an opponent or two at the right moment. I'm running this over Somberwald Sage because of its Biorhythm effect.
Sun Titan - A white staple and a valuable recursion piece. Can be nuts when combined with multiple combat phases.
Thalia, Heretic Cathar - Recurrable with Sun Titan, tutored up with Captain Sisay, and helps slow down the games of our opponents while simultaneously allowing us to push damage.
Yisan, the Wanderer Bard - Kind of like a second Birthing Pod in this deck, Yisan can go crazy if we have the mana available to use his ability multiple times.
Zealous Conscripts - Not just a combo piece, but a
Threaten
on legs for any permanent. Plus, we can use it on our own stuff which is insane value.
