Sorry if it sounds like I was being rude but please I am sticking to one color thats final, the deck is like this because it confuses players and its fun to play. I know there are cards that would benefit but that dosent mean I wont enjoy playing them.

I really like the concept, and will probably modify it to suit my own purposes. The one card I'm going to run a one of in a deck that's Mono Black like this will probably be Nightmare , since with so much Swamps it can become an End Game Clock. It pairs really well with Liliana of the Dark Realms snagging you a Swamp every turn.

DovahWalrus, the only reason I said I don't believe it could top 3 is because it says it did it 3 times right in the deck name.

"life gain deck, on a budget. It mainly focuses around devotion, and the bogbrew combos. Some help would be nice and some critical feedback :)The bread and butter revolves around removing their creatures while gaining life"

"I am very new to competitive magic and any feedback at all would be great, help me learn, and get better over time"

those are directly from the description, and using those I made my suggestions, I didn't rebuild the entire deck I kept the lifegain and bogbrew combos, I just added things I thought you would have easy access too, thus making the deck more competitive, like you asked for in the above two quotes.

22 cards that are higher than 3 CMC does not say "competitive", it doesn't even say "I'm trying to be competitive on a budget", it says "I like having my cards in my hand while my opponent beats my face."

You asked for critical feedback and I gave it, if you don't want suggestions then don't ask for them.

On further reflection, I also suggest Read the Bones . I'd like your thoughts on my recent brew of the Bog, which I can't seem to link! Ha!

Suggestions and feedback not a new deck entirely. And I have eebn on the fence about read the bones as its one of the best card draw in the game.

Love this deck. Always been a fan of black since I started so the new mono black devotion ability for theros makes me puke freaking rainbows lol. Only thing I would change is drop 1 or both of Dark Prophecy and toss in Strionic Resonator . Drawing cards is always nice but I'm a big fan of the resonator for Gary or Sanguine to give you that double damage effect.

Strionic Resonator Is also good for the Newt and Sacrificing,Bobtrotsky, the only problem with it is it's very finicky.

My question is, how consistent is your ramp?

DovahWalrus says... #8

Well there are some games where I am wishing for that one extra swamp, but I can control for long enough that its fine. I did have Crypt Ghast in but It wasnt the best. And by the way the Strionic Newt sounds hilarious but overall not that practial, not a bad suggestion however :D

Ratchet Bomb is pretty much needed to run against this deck. Otherwise your enchantments and artifacts go untouched causing problems. +1 for the concept.

This looks great, I've been wanting to use something else than my old mono black devotion deck... and I love the idea of lifegain. Now, my only fear is... how do we deal with a mono black opponent inevitably slapping down his Erebos? I feel like all we have in black to deal with it is Thoughseize, and even that is only preventative. Erebos would absolutely shut this deck down. +1 though, great idea

January 11, 2014 11:19 p.m.

DovahWalrus says... #11

Yeah if its a erebos then :( . You can still deal enough damage to win though I have won games without sanguine bond, you should just have to play aggresive. Desecration Demon is a win con and the newts all 4 of them still deal 16 damage. Thanks its pretty much junk at its best XD

Bobtrotsky says... #12

My lord! They've released Erebos!!!

Bring forth the strionic newt!!!!!!!

DovahWalrus says... #13

Strionic newt is kinda tempting still... soo tempting..

Cravenoff says... #14

Welcome to the DARK SIDE OF THE NEWT! Muhahahaha! Also, if you do run Strionic Resonator , run some other Whenever or When effects to get the most out of your money. It'll make it a Johnny deck though, so you MUST add Read the Bones to smooth things out. Right now you're stable, any more and you'll start becoming a little janky.

January 12, 2014 4:20 p.m.

DovahWalrus says... #15

It already is jank man lol, I might make a ridiculous troll deck with strionic as the key activating a ton of cards.

Are you sure that having multiple Sanguine Bond out at once make the ability happen more than once because I have asked people at my local card shop and they say it does not

February 4, 2014 7:30 p.m.

DovahWalrus says... #17

It does, think about it they are all on the stack, it simply says "Whenever you gain life target opponent loses that much life." so If I gain 3 life and have 2 out It deals 3 damage from the first and another 3 from the second, you can look it up from another source if you want but it is legal, probably tell your LGS that so if you try something like this you dont get called a cheat :)

Thanks, and dang Sanguine Bond is better than I thought, and you have created a great deck btw!

February 4, 2014 8:37 p.m.

DovahWalrus says... #19

Thanks man, sanguine bond is good but its pretty combo heavy heh honestly its jank but I LOVE IT. Depending on your local meta this deck cold destroy, at my place this is easily one of the best decks there because the style of play. I just built a new white blue aggro if you want to check it out too Super Sanic Speed 2 advertising advertising advertising

i really like the deck idea, great thinking. look likes its working out. my only suggestion would be to -1 corrupt and add 1 Elixir of Immortality

February 4, 2014 9:16 p.m.

DovahWalrus says... #21

Well a single Elixir does not really do anything, I only use elexirs if its a mill deck or a deck that loves graveyards I understand why its good though it gains me 5 life. The thing is when I gain life I like it to deal damage along with it thats why I dont have dumb combos like that one 2 drop regenerate skeleton and cauldron.

SasukeUchiha says... #22

A great card for you would be Tenacious Dead . you can sac it to Bubbling Cauldron , and then pay 2 and just have it back to sac again next turn.

March 5, 2014 12:46 p.m.

SasukeUchiha says... #23

also, a card you might consider (although not to sure it is amazing without Pack Rat ) is Ogre Slumlord because then saccing creatures just gives you more creatures to sac/block with that have deathtouch.

March 5, 2014 12:54 p.m.

SasukeUchiha says... #24

two other cards you could add are Bile Blight , and Drainpipe Vermin . Bile Blight is $0.75 cent removal that is pretty good as it takes out a bunch of creatures. could be considered. Drainpipe Vermin is simply another card to sac that gives you an effect, but with too many 1 CMC cards you would need those Dark Prophecy 's to keep up your hand.

March 5, 2014 1 p.m.

DovahWalrus says... #25

I have not updated this in a while since I have now deconstructed the deck :( I definitely want to add the bile blights in and drainpipe I don't like cause if I wanted a good one drop for black I would use duress/thoughseize. its not bad but not duress/thoughtsieze good only one drop in the deck is core to the combo thanks for the advice on bile blight though :)
