Ok, so this is the budgety version of another deck I made called Sanguine Sunrise. This is a Post-Rotation Standard Deck! I can't pour a ton of money into Magic, so this is the actual deck that I use and hold. I would love some suggestions on what I can do to make this deck work better. If you like this deck or the idea behind it please +1 it!
The basic idea of this deck is based around Sanguine Bond. Once it hits the field, I use a few life gain cards to steal all of my opponents life in a matter of turns. I've gotten my life about 80 before with this deck (against another lifesteal build). I also have a few other things mixed in to keep me alive and my opponents on their toes until I can finish them, namely
Voracious Wurm
with
Heroes' Reunion
or
Congregate
Let's break down some of my choices:
CREATURES:
Elvish Mystic for mana ramp, which tends to be really helpful in making this deck run smoothly, especially early-game.
Basilica Screecher
is a nice early flier for blocking and extort early-game. If it makes it later in the game, the extort is nice icing on the cake to Sanguine Sunrise
Centaur Healer
is a 3/3 for 3 with 3 life. A nice fit in this deck which can actually be a bit formidable with Unflinching Courage attached to it.
Fiendslayer Paladin is a nice 2/2 that has lifelink and is hard to destroy in combat with its first strike
Seraph of the Sword
is a really underrated card, especially in decks like this. While I do have 3 Sanguine Sunrises in this deck (and 2 Diabolic Tutors,) I'm not guaranteed to get one any time early on, or the mana needed to cast it right away. I know my deck won't always perform perfectly and Seraph is a great way to keep me alive while I wait to pull my bigger plays. It can defend against almost anything and not get destroyed from combat damage. It also serves as a scapegoat for my opponents to target with their removals early on so as to keep them from removing
Voracious Wurm
, Blood Baron of Vizkopa or any other bigger cards.
Voracious Wurm
- gain life, get big. It's a no brainer.
Blood Baron of Vizkopa - Potentially a win condition after Sanguine has been played. He can end the game really quickly.
INSTANTS:
Congregate
- I love this card against aggro decks or Selesnya builds. It can mean a lot of lifegain very quickly, which means a crippling blow with Sanguine Bond or at least a few turns more survival if things start to turn for the worse
Heroes' Reunion
already talked about. Combo with
Voracious Wurm
for a nice 9/9, plus a lot of lifegain
Putrefy for removal
SORCERY:
Diabolic Tutor - helps pull Sanguine or a finisher like Blood Baron
ENCHANTMENTS:
Path of Bravery
helps gain life and boosts creatures with +1/+1'sSanguine Bond is the center of the deck.
Unflinching Courage put on a
Voracious Wurm
is massive. Put it on anything else and it makes it even more formidable
ARTIFACTS:
Elixir of Immortality protects from Milling decks and is a nice and cheap life gain
Things I need Help With
1) I'm always uncertain about my lands, especially drawing Swamps to use Sanguine and Diabolic Tutor. I'm not quite sure how the build works with the current land.
2) Sometimes I find this deck a bit slow, and while it can keep itself going with continuous lifegain, it's still slower (comparatively) than other builds
3) I'm working on building a sideboard, please let me know what you think!
4) Anything in my Maybeboard are things I kind of want to add to my deck but are a little steep in price, so I may not put them in. All would fits so well in my deck, but... they're all costly
5) Yes, Exquisite Blood is amazing with this deck, and I have two that I swap out with
Path of Bravery
when it works well. However, I just got into Magic and I'm trying to stay realistic and build a deck I will be able to use past September. Thank you for understanding.
Please, please comment, I'm looking for as much help as I can get!
