Introduction

In my procrastination of schoolwork, I was browsing some cEDH decks and came across Cameron's Laying Out A White Rug decklist. Jeskai Ascendancy is a card I've always adored, and decided to brew my own take on the deck. So, from that here is Sans-Black Maniac! A Jeskai Ascendancy / Paradox Engine combo deck that wins through storming off, and winning via Krosan Reclamation / Memory's Journey loops, or dueling scepters.

In the early stages of the game, this deck wants to be casting mana dorks and/or mana producing enchantments such as Carpet of Flowers or Utopia Sprawl . I count Training Grounds under this category as well since it reduces Thrasios activation costs nicely.

Make sure to actively fight over spells such as Massacre , or Toxic Deluge since they will set you back a substantial amount. Without our dorks in play, Jeskai Ascendancy will do practically nothing.

Sensei's Divining Top is a huge enabler once we get going with Ascendancy. For example, if a spell that wouldn't draw us a card such as Nature's Claim would be put on the stack, we can hold priority, tap the top to draw a card, and draw the top again with the Ascendancy trigger. This gives us another spell to untap our dorks, and another chance to loot into some gas.

Bloom Tender is a must have in this deck. It is almost always the target for Green Sun's Zenith and with Ascendancy in play, it generates all 4 mana in our color identity. This makes sure we can activate Thrasios every time we untap, giving us the best chance to fill our hand with more gas.

Biomancer's Familiar This card acts as a second copy of Training Grounds . It enables us to combo out much easier with Thrasios activations. Like the previous example, Bloom Tender tapping for 4 mana. Normally, this gives us 1 activation. However, with Biomancer's Familiar in play, we can get 2! Woah!

Freed from the Real One of our infinite mana outlets. This card combos nicely with Bloom Tender as well as Arbor Elf if we have a Utopia Sprawl or Wild Growth in play.

Thousand-Year Elixir Effects that give dorks mana haste is very powerful. Concordant Crossroads should be in the deck as well, but I haven't been able to get my hands on a copy.

All mana rocks are very important to this deck. When Isochron Scepter + Dramatic Reversal doesn't quite net you mana off of dorks, it's important to be playing mana rocks as a backup outlet. Plus they go nicely into our plan of activating Thrasios a bunch.

Cyclonic Rift Helps us bounce problematic permanents such as Cursed Totem . The deck is very weak to that kind of effect.

Delay , Flusterstorm , Force of Will , Mental Misstep , Swan Song , Narset's Reversal , Pact of Negation Counterspells in this are mostly used to protect our own gameplan. If an opponent is going for the win, we have other types of interaction to shut them down. Narset's Reversal is a sweet new card that acts as a counterspell if we need it that way, or as a way to shut down our opponents gas and take it for ourselves. This deck could benefit heavily off of someone else's Ad Nauseam .

Krosan Reclamation , Memory's Journey , Noxious Revival , Pyroblast , Silence can all stop our opponents from comboing out. Silence in particular can be used both offensively, and defensively. Though Memory's Journey , and Krosan Reclamation are key to one of our win lines, if one is used, the other copy can put the first back into our deck.

Though losing Demonic Tutor , Vampiric Tutor , and Imperial Seal hurts, the density of tutors in this deck actually play pretty well.

Fabricate can find our Paradox Engine , or Thousand-Year Elixir

Enlightened Tutor can find our Jeskai Ascendancy , or Training Grounds

Green Sun's Zenith can find our Bloom Tender , or Biomancer's Familiar

To hit Bloom Tender more often, I may be considering slotting in Worldly Tutor .

This deck is still in fairly early stages of testing. However, it has performed exceptionally well in the first few runs. As of right now, Dryad Arbor , Concordant Crossroads , and the other missing original dual lands should all find their way into the list.

In this panel I'll be posting cuts and additions as the deck is tested over time.

5/3/2019- OUT: Magus of the Candelabra IN: Worldly Tutor Magus had a pretty niche amount of scenario's where the land fixing was relevant. He works well with Utopia Sprawl and Wild Growth but other than that, he isn't very strong.

5/5/2019- OUT: Kiora's Follower , Krosan Reclamation IN: Incubation Druid , Dryad Arbor Though kiora's follower can be a Freed from the real outlet, Incubation druid is a better dork when manually comboing off. Krosan Reclamation just acts like a second copy of Memory's Journey so the 2nd effect isn't necessary, having a higher density of dorks by including Dryad Arbor is much more important.

Conclusion

I hope you enjoyed reading this small primer, and feel free to ask questions/ make suggestions on what the deck could benefit from! For this primer itself, feel free to comment on what could be added to make the deck more clear or understandable.
