The basis of this deck is a fun little idea I had; turning modern and legacy decks into commander decks. This is obviously very difficult as many of those decks are built around a combo that requires several specific cards. My first attempt, Scapeshift, wasn't too difficult. In addition to running scapeshift, I have an abnormal amount of ramp even for the classic scapeshift deck. This makes killing my opponent easier if I hit a Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle naturally. Because Valakut is one card, we also run Cosi's Ravager, Akoum Hellkite, and Tunneling Geopede in addition to some creature tutors to ensure that we can get a Valakut-like effect.

Combos

This is by no means a combo deck, but we do have some good card pairings. You may have noticed that our commander is Mina and Denn. The sisters actually go great with this deck. They ramp us, but more important is their second ability. We don't care about the trample they grant, but returning a land allows us to, in conjunction with Valakut, make a lightning bolt effect. You tap a mountain and a forest, return the mountain, and play it again. This leaves you with having tapped a forest to deal three damage. You can do this an amount of times equal to the amount of lands you can play. Without Oracle of Mul Daya, Courser of Kruphix, or Azusa, Lost but Seeking(All of which we run), that's two bolts a turn, but with any of the earlier mentioned cards we increase our bolt count. This ability is relevant because it allows us to keep mobilized even if we don't draw into gas or lands. Also, this is a great engine to remove our opponents creatures while we wait for a scapeshift or another powerful card to win us the game there and then.
