The advent of Amonkhet has brought us a large number of cards that benefit from -1/-1 counters. Chief among them was the card Nest of Scarabs, a card that seemed to have a lot of potential with the right setup. The best support for this card seemed to lie in Modern, where a lot of strong cards existed that could distribute and abuse -1/-1 counters. Cards such as Black Sun's Zenith initially jumped out as strong candidates, with cards such as Necroskitter and Dusk Urchins working their way into the list when they were brought to my attention. What I arrived at was a Black-based control deck centered around abusing the effects of Nest of Scarabs and Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons. Black Sun's Zenith + Nest of Scarabs ideally creates repeated one-sided board wipes, and becomes absolutely insane late game as EACH counter results in a scarab. The arrival of Vizier of Remedies further enables this style of deck and goes infinite with Devoted Druid, and with Hapatra or Nest results in infinite snakes and scarabs.
