Schoolhouse Rock is a version of the old Owling Mine tournament decks in Commander form with Nin, the Pain Artist at the helm. The deck's goal is to sit around behind good blockers and Propaganda effects, just weathering any storm at the table (seems to fit the label of being like a rock, even if Rock has mostly been reserved for b/g decks); and throw a whole bunch of cards at everyone (drawing cards = learning = school) with Howling Mine effects (the "Mine" in "Owling Mine") and then punish them for drawing a lot or having large hand sizes, such as through cards like Molten Psyche, Vicious Shadows, and Ebony Owl Netuske (the "Owl" in "Owling Mine"). If this route to victory isn't working, there is always the possibility of milling / decking opponents through the mass draw (especially Jace's Archivist, Dragon Mage, and Forced Fruition), dealing damage through Stuff Doll, or by simply attacking with creatures (particularly Psychosis Crawler, Dragon Mage, Stormbreath Dragon, or anything equipped with Sword of War and Peace).

I put a lot of thought into my card choices, even the basic lands and the tokens. I selected my basic lands carefully to fit the themes of the deck. 4 Islands and 4 Mountains are from the Commander preconstructed deck where Nin, the Pain Artist was first printed. Another 4 Islands and 4 Mountains are from Saviors of Kamigawa, the set where the Ebony Owl Netsuke of the Owling Mine name was released and the plane where the wizard school Minamo exists, and which may be depicted in one of the Kamigawa Islands. The final 4 Islands and 4 Mountains are from Urza's Saga, which depicts the island which houses Urza's Tolarian Academy in the art of the Islands.
