Greetings again! :-). So, I have a couple of opinions, and certainly take them or leave them. The first is that unless you have a ton of ramp in the deck, hardcasting dragons seems fairly difficult, so animar's effect might be diminished due to not having a lot of little creatures to cast early and then ramp up to fatties. For this reason, I would replace Animar, Soul of Elements with a good dragon such as Steel Hellkite or Bogardan Hellkite . Secondly, Rafiq of the Many is obviously a great card, but does it fit in the deck as well as one of the two aforementioned dragons? I'd replace rafiq and animar with steel and Bogardan hellkites.

Also, Keiga, the Tide Star and yosei, the morning star]] are amazing in a scion deck. You can make scion a copy of either at instant speed and then either gain control of a creature or tap an opponent down if they try to kill scion. So fantastic

hey mate, i would add Cabal Coffers and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and then also add Primeval Titan and Sylvan Scrying these are sick ass combos :-). I would drop most of your non dragons tbh like the angel and junk troller as they aren't really required. I would certainly add the newly printed thundermaw hellkite its AMAZING and also add Spearbreaker Behemoth he works really hard! :-) maybe add Quicksilver Amulet so you can stay untapped with your control spells and you should definitely add Tooth and Nail along with Defense of the Heart insane cards right there! :-) finally I would maybe add in haste to make your general more lethal and immediate use something like Anger , Fervor , Fires of Yavimaya , In the Web of War probs not all 4 though haha maybe just 2 of em? the Sword of Feast and Famine can function like Bear Umbra for the Hellkite Charger combo if you are hitting people not creatures. if you need advice going in a more specific direction i'd be happy to help mate :-)

Don't know if you are interested but I feel obligated to inform you that Tamiyo, the Moon Sage 's emblem will bounce the tutored card out of your graveyard to your hand and your scion will still become a copy of said dragon. (maybe useful when you run out of recursion spells and have enough mana to hard cast them.)

Looks pretty decent (not gonna parrot other suggestions), though Moonveil Dragon and Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon are both very common in Scion decks.

Also, Mistveil Plains could help you retuck things back into your library.

I like the idea with Tamiyo, only thing would be getting her final off.

Also I have been looking for Skittles for ages now lol, not too sure if I'll add moonveil. I could see it working if I had Prismatic Omen out.

Just a note on Scion's copy ability: he loses it when he becomes a copy, so you can't change him into moltensteel, pump, and change him to skithryx. Here's the ruling: http://magiccards.info/ts/en/246.html

Thanks for the heads up, I was thinking about seeing if I could use his ability twice and responding with the life drop before it resolved or some other crazy stack nonsense lol

@AmethystDragon23, Scion can do what you're talking about if you put his ability on the stack twice. First, with Skithiryx, then with Moltensteel Dragon . Let the Moltensteel resolve, pump Scion, then let Skithiryx resolve. 10/10 flying infect.

I like the idea of Rafiq of the Many . Have you considered Finest Hour ?

August 27, 2012 3:56 a.m.

Ah yes, I've done the moltensteel infect one too. Called it Molten Skittles.

That Finest Hour might be a good addition. i'll see about testing that.

August 27, 2012 8:13 a.m.

I didn't know about Finest Hour , but it's definitely worth considering

I won a game the other day just because of Finest Hour and i wasnt sure about running it as attacking isn't my primary win con. in this deck where attacking is the win con thru general damage you should definitely run it :-)

August 27, 2012 8:40 a.m.

hmm. It may just give it a shot then. I've been looking at switching my Worldgorger Dragon out for Quicksilver Dragon or something more punishing for those who would target Scion. I think he'll have a spot in the Kaalia deck i'm working on.

Quicksilver Dragon is pretty powerful; your playgroup will learn to fear retribution

August 28, 2012 1:45 a.m.

hmm that's what I need. Scion gets targeted alot so I was thinking of dropping him or Keiga, the Tide Star into the deck and seeing how that went.

Yosei, keiga, and quicksilver should all be in there because you want to punish people who target your general, and still get something out of scion's death.

August 28, 2012 1:04 p.m.

indeed. I've been looking at cards to take out. WorldGorger will do better in Kaalia, i'm not sure if I can free up Yosei but I think i have another Ryusei, the Falling Star

August 28, 2012 3:04 p.m.

@doomsquirrel/ameuser/MidnightDragon: I tried to turn Scion into Skithyrx and give him haste, moltensteel to pump, and then dragon tyrant to swing. The other players there thought that Scion didn't have haste anymore since he switched dragons when I attacked with him. I wanted to verify if that scenario could work, and if so, how to do it properly and why it works.

August 28, 2012 5:06 p.m.

@AmethystDragon23: You bring up a good point. Technically it shoudl lose haste because it is no longer a dragon, but I've also heard that an instance of haste lasts until end of turn like a buff would. It's a good question.

I've sent a question to a judge regarding it and will probably post to other judges to get a second opinion on it. .

August 28, 2012 9 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #21

if you read skittles he says that he "gains haste till end of turn"

August 28, 2012 9:07 p.m.

@MidnightDragon, when does it stop being a dragon? It does cease to be named skithryx, if that's what you mean. I know that the moltensteel pump stayed until end of turn, regardless of the name change. I assumed it worked that way with Skithyrx's haste as well. I'd love to hear it from a judge

August 28, 2012 10:25 p.m.

Ohthenoises says... #23

As long as he doesn't change zones every pump or activated ability stays. Just because it references the card Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon doesn't mean anything other than "this card"

For reference here is the oracle ruling from Necrotic Ooze that might help clear some things up. "1/1/2011 If an activated ability of a card in a graveyard references the card it's printed on by name, treat Necrotic Ooze's version of that ability as though it referenced Necrotic Ooze by name instead. For example, if Cudgel Troll (which says "G: Regenerate Cudgel Troll") is in a graveyard, Necrotic Ooze has the ability "G: Regenerate Necrotic Ooze.""

August 28, 2012 10:41 p.m.

Excellent! That should satisfy them

August 28, 2012 10:44 p.m.

So, the guy from Top and Go Productions (they make the EDH show The Other 99 on Youtube) had the ruling up. When Scion transforms, he loses his transformation ability until end of turn.

Another person who'se credibility I do not know of says you can transform multiple times when he is still scion and trigger them through layers, but that if it turns into a dragon with haste and a dragon without, it loses haste.

Honestly I trust the guys from Top and Go a bit more (as much as I want my Scion to be able to Molten-Skittles kill when he comes out). They seem to have a pretty good thing going, but out of the people I ask, it seems to be about 50/50. We need a few more judges to clear this up for us, and if that doesn't work, we'll ask a staffer to clear it up.
