So the setup is Worldgorger Dragon is in the graveyard and Animate Dead is in hand.

  1. you cast Animate Dead, Targetting the Worldgorger Dragon.

  2. Animate Dead resolves and the dragon enters the battlefield.

  3. the Worldgorger Dragon's ability goes on the stack and resolves, exile the Animate Dead. This causes the dragon to die as per Animate Dead's conditions stated on the card since it is no longer in play.

  4. Worldgorger Dragon enters the graveyard and all permanents return to play as per Worldgorger Dragon's second ability. This brings back Animate Dead from exile. You then target the Worldgorger Dragon in the graveyard, repeating the aforementioned steps. to break the cycle, target something else with Animate Dead.

Because your lands get exiled and return to play each recusrion loop, you can tap them for mana each time, giving you infinite mana to do with it what you will.

Ok wow that's pretty broken... thanks!

... Not to mention the insane value of multiple ETB / LTB triggers :P

Basically what enpc said. Use the infinite mana generated from the Animate Dead + Worldgorger Dragon combo to turn Scion of the Ur-Dragon into Shivan Hellkite. Activate Shivan Hellkite's ability to deal infinite damage to each opponent.

Thanks for saving me the trouble haha.

The other benefit is that Scion of the Ur-Dragon can fetch it without triggering it's ETB so you only need your commander, Animate Dead and a mana sink.

illumfolly: Imagine if I had a Kokusho, the Evening Star or other Kamigawa Dragons out when I combo off haha. That or Destructor Dragon. So much BS happening at once.

It wouldn't trigger them though, they are specifically "dies" triggers.

enpc: Dammit, I forgot lol. I need to RTFC more. Sorry, not used to the new combos.

Which, I might add, makes it worth it to include at least one "ETB kill with dragons" card to the deck: Dragon Tempest or Scourge of Valkas. I know they don't do much on their own, but they are a valu-rific set of cards and I cannot soften my erection for them.

I see you aren't going to infinite combat anymore? Sure, one shotting one player at a time works if you can cripple the others... but remember, you can one shot them all at the same time with infinite combat steps. No butthurt, no responses, just death.

Bear Umbra, Sword of Feast and Famine, Scourge of Valkas, Relentless Assault, Nature's Will

All good :P You could use Bogardan Hellkite instead which would get the ETB trigger.

May 4, 2015 12:36 a.m.

illumfolly:

Probably not Scourge of Valkas. I tried it out and didn't like it too much. Maybe the Dragon Tempest though. I'm still trying to fit the card into the deck.

Yes, I decided to drop the infinite combat steps. Unfortunately, the combo also required a minimum of seven lands. That requirement was a bit steep. As it would be done at a minimum of turn seven (unless I drew into Skyshroud Claim), I deemed it a bit too costly to continue running. Especially since I have several combos that can kill players without attacking. My one-shot Dragons are more for taking out a more immediate threat that sweeping up the board.

Out of curiosity, what're your thoughts on Dragonstorm? Its a bit janky but I think it's kinda funny. Signet, signet, signet, DRAGONS!

May 4, 2015 12:48 a.m.

enpc:

I like Dragonstorm, just not in this deck. I do not have the means in this deck to run it effectively. In a more Dragon heavy/ swarm heavy deck, it is a real nasty card. Not so much in here though.

Totally agree. Its a good card but this build wouldn't work with it. Realistically if you were goign to run anything it would be Tooth and Nail.

On a more seriosu suggestion, what's your take on Crucible of Worlds? you run the fetches and it means that you'll consistently be getting land. Also makes a Strip Mine more appealing. Another card woth considreing might be Zirilan of the Claw. Basically gives you a backup general.

May 4, 2015 1:16 a.m.

enpc:

Crucible of Worlds is another amazing card that runs into the age old EDH problem: I only have 100 slots in the deck. It is always one card vs another, and right now there's nothing that I would want to take out for it.

My only issue with Zirilan of the Claw is that it exiles. If it simply sent the dragons to the graveyard, I would be rocking that card, easily.

Ah, yeah, looks like I need to RTFC too :P one of the guys in our playgroup runs a Zirilan of the Claw deck but it has a crap load of sac outlets. That would be why he always has dudes in the graveyard.

Looking over the build, here are a few things I noticed:

  • I'm not a big fan of Mycosynth Lattice here. its a great card, but my biggest issue here is that it really only has synergy with one card - Hellkite Tyrant. Its a cute combo, sure, but A) you can see it coming a mile away and B) you can't win off of it without external reanimation. I fee llike you could cut both of those easily enough.

  • how much value do you actually get off Keiga, the Tide Star's ability? As good as he is, you don't run sac outlets and its only really good if scion (as scion) is about to be killed. outside of that, it feels a bit meh. Not to mention, If somebody can clone and sac it, whats to stop them from stealing your general? You don't run Homeward Path.

This gives you up to 3 spaces. I would highly recommend a Crucible of Worlds. But I also think you could consider a Scroll Rack and Strip Mine. Those are my recommendations.

May 4, 2015 7:33 p.m.

enpc: As always, thanks for the suggestions.

Mycosynth Lattice is a pretty meh card. I'll consider taking it out for something else. However, I never win off of this combo. It is simply used for taking someone out of the game until I finish off everyone else.

Keiga, the Tide Star has actually saved me quite a bit. My friends also run very General-oriented EDH decks. Keiga is a huge bane on their existence haha.

I will consider the cards you suggested I take out. You do make very valid points, and the cards you suggested are all cards that I want in the deck.

I'm not planning on adding Zirilan of the Claw into this deck. However, those are great suggestions for a certain mono red deck I'm building :D

I'm not sure if you can make room , but here is the fastest I can think of of winning with Worldgorger Dragon. T1: Swamp for Sol Ring for a signet. T2 : mountain and play Buried Alive mill Shivan Hellkite and Worldgorger Dragon. Play Animate Dead of your signet is black. Win. This assumes basic lands and you only need two cards to get this. Buried Alive if you feel you have enough recursion, can accelerate your game.

May 5, 2015 2:08 a.m.

Kinpa6Ansatsu: Nice combo! Don't know if I'll be adding in Buried Alive, but it is worth a look.

The molten steel skittles combo doesn't work. You can only make scion a copy of one creature at a time because once it becomes that first copy it loses its ability to copy another creature.

May 6, 2015 9:29 a.m.

Wolfgang69:

If you put Scion of the Ur-Dragon's ability twice on the stack, it will be forced to cycle through each transformation.

May 6, 2015 9:31 a.m.

Wolfgang69 says... #25

No because you have to do it in increments you pay 2 generic you have to search then shuffle then it resolves then you can no longer use his ability
