SliverKing_HateMeGuts: Thanks for the comment!

Cruel and powerful, just like a dragon.

You are welcome. Not many decks can be as brutally efficient as yours. I would really hate to play against you. As you may have deduced I am a fan of slivers, one of the other brutal creature types.

I highly recommend Scroll Rack and Sylvan Library because you can put you dragons (and other cards you don't want) back in your deck and draw cards to replace them and then shuffle on command with Scion. I have them in my Scion deck along with Brainstorm, Mirri's Guile Dream Cache so I can always get "pick of the litter" also because I am playing all of those I added Temporal Mastery which acts like a Time Walk. just some thoughts.

P.S. I stole your ventmaw combo.

The ventmaw combo... you don't actually float the mana through combat into the second mana phase do you? The mana empties as soon as you leave the attack step in accordance with 106.4. "When an effect produces mana, that mana goes into a players mana pool. From there, it can be used to pay costs immediately, or it can stay in the players mana pool. Each players mana pool empties at the end of each step and phase."

The combo still works as long as you use the mana during Declare Attack step since you'd still get the untap trigger and there would be another combat.

MrEM4N: Have a read of Savage Ventmaw, it should clear things up.

How often do you actually cast your dragons?

Dredge4life says... #8

So Belltoll Dragon is just there for emergency hexproof? Very clever. +1

@Quarion65: Basically you'll need to hardcast your dragons every game. Because Scion will eventually get killed.

But that's the fun part: you wreck them with a T3 Sion and then you continue to wreck them with giant flying monsters for the kill.

I just thought of a strong card to add to a scion deck. Mayael's Aria! Why is it strong? well, cast it then on your next turn's upkeep turn scion into Moltensteel Dragon and pump it up to just win the game! it is kinda a jerk move that ends the game in a anticlimactic way but whatever. also once people get wise to what it can do it will put a FAT target on your back for that round. what do you think?

I don't know if you have thought of this before, but Chromatic Lantern and Mycosynth Lattice combo with Dragon Tyrant really well. by being able to pump him up with any color mana it is sure to land a devastating blow.

November 19, 2015 11:59 p.m.

Zer0w: Thanks for all the suggestions.

Scroll Rack and Sylvan Library are both cards I want in the deck. However, as you know, space has always been an issue for me. There is no such thing as "filler" in my deck, so it's always hard to make room. Mayael's Aria is decent. However, I cannot stand waiting that long to kill them, not to mention it paints a GIANT target on my back.

And yes, I do know that Chromatic Lantern and Mycosynth Lattice are disgusting when used with Dragon Tyrant. I use it quite often.

MrEM4N: Thanks for the comment! No worries. Everyone misreads cards.

Quarion65: Thanks for the comment!

I cast my dragons sparingly. I try my best to keep them in the deck in order to transform Scion of the Ur-Dragon into them.

However, we don't live in a perfect world, so I do know you'll have to cast them occasionally. Of all the dragons in the deck, the ones you should NEVER cast are Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon, Moltensteel Dragon, and Dragon Tyrant.

Dredge4life Thanks for the comment and the +1!

Yes, emergency Hexproof works wonders.

with the tuck rule changing a while back d you still think Oblation and Chaos Warp are the best removal options?

They also remove non-commander permanents

I second that Mayael's Aria, good idea

So maybe this is more for the budget combo build, but I hit a good combo a couple days ago that I haven't seen. I've been testing Fearsome Awakening--I realized that if you copy Enduring Scalelord with Scion and then bring it back with Fearsome Awakening, the counters trigger each other infinitely so that you end up with two infinite power/toughness fliers--one of which being your commander. It's really not mana intensive for a deck like this, and it is hilarious. Anyone have any thoughts?

November 22, 2015 4:56 p.m.

Zer0w says... #20

That is good... I like Dack's Duplicate a little better.. just turn Scion in to scalelord then cast Dack's Duplicate copy scalelord then attack with at least Dack's Duplicate and it triggers... however if you are the one with the most life then it will not trigger. Dack's Duplicate is a more useful card in other situations. but Fearsome Awakening is useful outside the combo, fits the deck flavor. I haven't seen it before but like it! I think I will add it to my Scion deck.

With the new commanders there is a new land that is worth looking into. Would Command Beacon be worthwhile in this deck? I figured once someone realizes the combo potential they'll try to take it out as much as possible.

Pheardemons says... #22

I know your deck has been up awhile and someone may have already asked this, but why not Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund? Giving all of your dragons haste with Living Death is an alternate win condition if your opponent realizes they have to keep your commander off of the board no matter what. Two lands I'm curious as to if they are note worthy; Boseiju, Who Shelters All for your sorceries and instants (that could help you last that one turn needed) be uncounterable, and Command Beacon for that one player who realizes that they need to keep your commander off of the battlefield no matter what.

Sidenote: How has Exploration played for you? Is it really needed with all of the signets that you play?

Also just realized I asked the same question twice. It's late where I am. Sorry about that.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm back! Sorry about that one month hiatus. Life takes priority, I'm afraid. I completely missed the 2015 Commander decks, so if anyone has some suggestions from those decks, I'm all ears!

January 3, 2016 11:40 a.m.

Unfortunately, C15 didn't really give us much in the way of dragons. Scourge of Nel Toth is basically the best dragon from the set, and I'm not entirely sure if it's the best fit for this deck apart from it being, you know, a dragon.
