And I don't think a Scion Deck would be viable in 1v1.

Marenkai: Your joking right? You cast Scion early then that turn or the next you use the molteensteel/skittles combo... GG. It is a garented turn 3-5 win every single game, how is that not good 1v1?
February 16, 2016 10:04 a.m.
Yeah, he's joking. there is no other explanation for such a whimsical statement. You could go molteensteel/skittles combo or Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combo or Worldgorger Dragon combo. whatever you fancy. my Scion has a few easy to cast counterspells to protect the combos. it is so strong in a 1v1 game that it is actually kinda lame. just wait until they cast their commander then cast scion into Tyrant's Familiar attack and kill their commander. then on your next turn kill them. or just wait until thye are tapped out and go Worldgorger. GG. after 3 games of that I'm done. in multiplayer there is enough enteraction and disruption and down right shenanigans to keep things interesting.

I'm talking about how it costs $5200 to buy this deck
I wish I had :(

Well a lot of the money is in the og duals and most of his deck is foil. I put together a similar list for $700

AXMANER: Thanks for the comment! Most of the money comes from the foils. I have every Expedition fetch and a foil Jace, the Mind Sculptor. That alone is over $1500. If you want to build something just as potent, but less hitting on the wallet, there's a budget version in the description.

That or I'm sure you could get a decent amount for a kidney on the black market. If you get really creative, it may not even have to be yours :P

@VexenX and Zer0w: You obviously don't have any experience in competitive 1v1 (Duel Commander / Former "French EDH")...
Most decks won't let such a complicated combo set off (Tasigur, Narset, GAA, Jenara : /x and /x in general) and the others will just be faster at killing you (Yisan, Animar, Marath, Prossh and /x in general).
Scion was viable 1-2 years ago in a full control shell that abused conterspells and removal to finish with the Worldgorger combo (the most stable one) and only using Scion as a tutor.
But the past years has seen an incredible leap in the powerlevel of the format and the only 5CC commander deck that has a chance and that I can think of is Child of Alara.
You can play it in your LGS for fun, but in a competitive world, Scion is dead in 1v1. Period ;)

Hey this question maybe sounds pretty stupid because I'm quite new to magic. I don't understand, how the Main Phase Combo with Animate Dead + Shivan Hellkite + Worldgorger Dragon works. Why do I get infinite mana when the Worldgorger enters the Battlefield? For me it sounds like a negative effect to loose control of all permanents I control. Can someone explain me how this works? :D
April 4, 2016 3 p.m.
Sunrunner663 the Animate Dead aura is a permanent, so when it targets the Worldgorger Dragon from your graveyard, it (along with all of your lands and other permanents) is also removed from the game, which triggers worldgorger to leave, which then triggers all of those permanents to re-enter--but untapped! so you tap all of that mana in between those two cards triggering each other when they etb.
The worldgorger and all of your other permanents basically take turns entering and leaving, but you can tap all of your mana when it re-enters to float mana in your mana pool, and they can trigger forever. You then target Shivan Hellkite with Animate Dead (assuming it's in your graveyard) to stop the bouncing worldgorger combo, and spend all of that mana you have floating on direct damage per shivan's ability. Make sense?

dooomsdae Ah okay, so I don't need to sacrifice the Animate Dead after it leaved for the first time? Thanks, you really helped me out much already! :)
April 8, 2016 11:55 a.m.
Sunrunner663 I did a pretty crappy job explaining it, so that was somewhat shorthand. You don't sacrifice the Animate Dead because it gets exiled with all other permanents per Worldgorger Dragon's drawback--only when that aura leaves, you have to sacrifice the Worldgorger Dragon per Animate Dead's drawback. When you sacrifice the Worldgorger Dragon, the Animate Dead returns (with all of your lands and other permanents untapped, which you can tap to float mana!), and you may target a new creature in your graveyard. So why not Worldgorger Dragon again to float infinite mana in your pool? You still need a way to stop bouncing things though, i.e. another creature for Animate Dead to target in your gyard instead of worldgorger. Shivan Hellkite is the perfect target for an instant win if you have infinite mana.

Hey I just wanted to ask: Why no Haven of the Spirit Dragon? Yes, it's strictly worse now that you've dropped Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, but it's mana-fixing for your Commander with no downside, and it allows you to recur the actual Dragon that you pitched in case Scion couldn't utilize it for some reason.
April 12, 2016 9:02 p.m.
Cyberninja16: Volrath's Stronghold lets you recur creatures - and into the deck so they can be retutored without any extra steps involved. It's also much more repeatable that Haven of the Spirit Dragon.

Why Putrid Imp ? I think Faithless Looting is better. Necromancyis better possibility for Breath of Life, because you can use it for Worldgorger Dragon combo too as Squirrel_of_War says. And why you play Leyline of Anticipation? I think you can use that place for another cards.. and i dont know about Council's Judgment too (I play comander in 3 players.. I can exile with it 3 permanents, but they can use it on a tresh for outvote me).I really like Steel Hellkite for perfect clearing and Teneb, the Harvester is definitely awesome, you have more options with him.

I know Putrid Imp is for discard, because drawing dragons are almost always a dead draw, and so an easy and cheap repeatable discard engine gets dragons in the yard. I agree with Necromancy and also Dance of the Dead since they are all the same as Animate Dead. Everything else is subjective. Teneb and Steel Hellkite are good based on build. Teneb is a staple for Reanimator Scion. Steel Hellkite is up in the air.

einee03: Putrid Imp is cheap discard that I can use over and over again. Simple as that. Necromancy is definitely on my "to get" list for the deck, just haven't found anyone willing to trade it. Council's Judgment might be going out with the introduction of Anguished Unmaking, need to do more testing first.
Leyline of Anticipation gives everything in my hand flash. The value of that cannot be overstated.
Teneb, the Harvester and Steel Hellkite were in earlier versions of the deck. There's more effective choices now.

Hexproof is perfect, but your opponents can wait, until you use scions ability for target him.. How to deal with it?
April 22, 2016 1:58 a.m.

einee03: The Hexproof Dragons are for my opponent's turns, not my own. Currently, the only form of protecting Scion of the Ur-Dragon while he is transformed is Lightning Greaves. I'm currently working on fitting Asceticism into the deck, but we'll see where that goes.

TBH a semi-stasis lock could piss some people off. But sweet list! I love combos.

Cepitore: Thanks for the comment!
That is definitely true. However, Who shall I be when I devour your soul? isn't just meant for 1v1. Plus, I have a lot of things not legal for 1v1.
